Ceruledge @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Flash Fire
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 HP / 172 SpD / 84 Spe
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Bitter Blade
- Shadow Sneak
- Taunt

Beware of the spectral blades that immolate you! With the uptick in dual screens hyper offense teams, one setup sweeper that surprisingly rises to the occasion is Bulk Up Ceruledge. It takes advantage of balance teams' prominence in the tier; not only does it exploit walls like Corviknight and Galarian Weezing, but with Taunt it can set up on would-be checks like Roar Moltres, Tickle Alomomola, and Curse Garganacl, all while being hard to revenge kill by the archetype's common offensive threats like Zamazenta and even Weavile and Ogerpon-W once boosted. Covert Cloak lets it mainly ignore Garganacl's Salt Cure but also Hatterene's Psychic Noise and Nuzzle, Pecharunt's Malignant Chain, and, after Terastallizing, Alomomola's Scald. Tera Bug complemented by Flash Fire provides a lack of notable weakness, even flipping the matchup against Ground-types like Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Ting-Lu too. The Speed EVs let it outrun Gliscor. Alolan Ninetales provides said dual screens to ease setups. Other sweepers like Dragonite and Zamazenta keep the pressure going, with Hatterene and Darkrai even capable of pressuring its main nemesis, Dondozo. Hatterene's anti-Stealth Rock Magic Bounce proves highly useful for it as well.

It takes advantage of the prominence of balance teams in the tier; not only does it exploit walls like Corviknight and Galarian Weezing, but with Taunt it can set up on would-be checks like Whirlwind Ting-Lu, Toxic Gliscor, (These two you can set up against thanks to Tera Bug and not only Taunt. Maybe they could be removed from here all together since you mention Ting-Lu's Earthquake below, and Gliscor in the EVs part) Roar Moltres, Tickle Alomomola, and Curse Garganacl, all while being hard to revenge kill by some of the archetype's common offensive threats like Zamazenta and even Weavile and Ogerpon-W once boosted. Covert Cloak mainly ignores Garganacl's Salt Cure as well as Hatterene's Psychic Noise (and Nuzzle? Up to you) and, after Terastallizing, Pecharunt's Malignant Chain and Alomomola's Scald. Tera Bug lets it resist Ground-type moves from Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Ting-Lu without being weak to the former two's Ice Spinner, (This is fine if you want to leave as is, though I feel it would be better to highlight Tera Bug's lack of many weaknesses or its resistance to other stuff rather than it not being weak to Ice Spinner, since long term thats less likely to matter. Take for example its resistance to Body Press, as its what allowed the set to 1v1 an ID Tera Fire Zamazenta in this game) and it works well with Flash Fire to mitigate the Fire weakness. The Speed EVs let it outrun Gliscor. Alolan Ninetales provides the necessary dual screens to ease setups. Other sweepers like Dragonite, Zamazenta, and Darkrai keep the offensive pressure going, with Hatterene's anti-Stealth Rock Magic Bounce supporting Ceruledge further. (Could try to restructure this part to be more specific, particularly Darkrai and Hatterene can help against Dondozo who Ceruledge really doesnt like)

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, Malignant Chain can poison non-Covert Cloak Ceruledge regardless of whether it Terastallizes or not.) This is practically ready grammar-wise, but I'd like a follow-up to my question first.

a blue banana addressing your questions:
Shouldn't "after Terastallizing" come before "Alomomola's Scald" instead?
It already comes before the scald mention atm, unless you mean after? If so, then the fire typing prevents it from being burned so covert cloak does nothing in that interaction, so the only time covert cloak helps is if ceruledge is tera'd.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, Malignant Chain can poison non-Covert Cloak Ceruledge regardless of whether it Terastallizes or not.
If ceruledge is not tera'd, pecha is more inclined to use its other attacks immediate damage (namely foul play or shadow ball) against you instead of using malignant chain. However, this interaction would flip over its head--where pecha will try to fish for poison as a last resort--if ceruledge has accumulated a handful of boosts. If you want me to move "Pecharunt's Malignant Chain" to before "after Terastallizing" then i think that's fine too tbh and keeping it general

Apologies, I should have said in between "Pecharunt's Malignant Chain" and "Alomomola's Scald", just like how you phrased the sentence right now. I have concerns over Malignant Chain's placement only.

In this case, you can revert the phrasing back to what you had before. I got pigeonholed into thinking about the secondary effect too much.
