After being dropped into OU this generation, Darkrai's got a brand new way of knocking your block off! Instead of running the usual Special Attack coverage options, this set runs three Dark-type moves with Black Glasses and Tera Dark for mixed offense. Its strong Knock Off lets it make progress early-game, especially as it can bait in and remove items from checks like Blissey, Clodsire, Assault Vest Alomomola, and Garganacl. Sucker Punch allows Darkrai to flip the matchup and pull a fast one over unsuspecting faster threats like Dragapult, Choice Scarf Gholdengo, a weakened Excadrill under sand and Terastallized Ogerpon. Ice Beam provides coverage against various threats like Great Tusk, Dragonite, Ting-Lu, and Gliscor. Generally, this set fits well on offensive teams. Because of its lack of coverage or status moves, Fighting- and Dark-types like Zamazenta, Kingambit, and Hisuian Samurott check it more reliably. To counteract this, you can run teammates such as Iron Valiant, Great Tusk, or your own Zamazenta. Fairy-types like Clefable, Hatterene, and Primarina are also problematic for this set, which is why Gholdengo, Kingambit, and Heavy Slam Zamazenta are great teammates.

Nachdem es in dieser Generation ins OU-Metagame gefallen ist, hat Darkrai nun eine brandneue Methode, dir ordentlich eins auszuwischen! Statt auf die üblichen speziellen Coverage-Attacken zu setzen, nutzt dieses Set gleich drei Unlicht-Angriffe in Kombination mit Black Glasses und Tera Unlicht für gemischten Offensivdruck. Ein starkes Knock Off erlaubt es Darkrai, bereits im Early-Game Fortschritt zu erzielen, indem es Checks wie Blissey, Clodsire, Assault Vest-Alomomola und Garganacl hereinlockt und ihnen ihre Items entfernt. Sucker Punch dreht das Matchup gegen vermeintlich schnellere Bedrohungen wie Dragapult, Choice Scarf-Gholdengo, ein angeschlagenes Excadrill im Sand oder ein terakristallisiertes Ogerpon und überrascht sie mit Priorität. Ice Beam sorgt für wichtige Coverage gegen Pokémon wie Great Tusk, Dragonite, Ting-Lu und Gliscor. Insgesamt passt dieses Set besonders gut in offensive Teams. Aufgrund des Verzichts auf zusätzliche Coverage oder Status-Attacken wird es jedoch verlässlicher von Kampf- und Unlicht-Pokémon wie Zamazenta, Kingambit und Hisuian Samurott gecheckt. Um das auszugleichen, bieten sich Teampartner wie Iron Valiant, Great Tusk oder ein eigenes Zamazenta an. Auch Feen-Pokémon wie Clefable, Hatterene und Primarina können problematisch werden, weshalb Gholdengo, Kingambit und Heavy Slam-Zamazenta starke Synergien darstellen.
