OU Hail Stall Team [RMT]

so yes. this is where an introduction would be. this is a hail team i made at the time the smogon server suddenly went offline. went to the CAP server and did a couple battles, lost one mainly because of a sloppy play, another because my time ran out (again, my fault). But this is all just random criteria. I can tell that there is room for improvement and would like some help with that (isn't that what RMT is for?) so let's get to the good stuff, shall we?

no picture for you!!
Heatran@Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
Evs:
Nature:
- Overheat
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [grass]
- Stealth rock / Explosion

The newest addition of my team, heatran is the scizor counter. Heatran is the sine qua non of my team (in case all you n00bs don’t know, sine qua non means without which it would not exist). Overheat is a real powerhouse, taking out things like machamp, and others. Earth power is for tyranitars and other heatrans, hidden power grass is for all bulky waters who love to come in and take an overheat, (or do they?)

Now here’s the deal, I currently have stealth rock on heatran, but I also have that on gliscor, should I take one off the other? If I take it off heatran, should I put in explosion or a special type attack?

Walrein@Leftovers
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 220 hp 252 def 36 spd
Nature: Bold
- Substitute
- Roar
- Protect
- Blizzard
Slight deviation from the regular stallrein, most would run surf over blizzard, but i already have tyranitar covered by tentacruel. roar is there because of entry hazard damage. protect for even more scouting. There isn’t much else to say about this guy, Next please!

Tentacruel@Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 hp / 120 def / 136 spd
Nature: Calm
- Toxic Spikes
- Surf
- Rapid Spin
- Sludge Bomb

Tentacruel, for all your entry hazard needs. toxic spikes and rapid spin is for, well you know, "all your entry hazard needs". I chose sludge bomb for STAB and breloom destroying (although I kinda hope that it won't poison it, but it doesn‘t have a big chance for that, and the blizzard‘s on almost everything should be able to take care of it too...) S is for Surf. or stab, whichever way you prefer.

Abomasnow@Leftovers
Ability: Snow Warning (of course)
EVs: 4 def / 252 spa/ 252 spe
Nature: Timid ( -Atk + Spd)
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Blizzard
- Protect

Yep, what did you expect? Tyranitar? anyway, basic subseeder set, protect is there scouting. leftovers for hp regeneration and stuff, timid is used to be faster and the evs are to maximize blizzards potential for ripping apart the likes of hippowdon and such. I already have a substitute staller though, should abomasnow be changed to a choice scarf set? What would be it’s moveset and evs and such?

Gliscor@Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 hp / 4 def / 252 spe
Nature: Jolly
- Earthquake
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Roost

My own creation :) Taunt is there for trollerificness (is that even a word?) roost for hp gain, and you know my dilemma with heatran also having stealth rock, so if I take it off gliscor, what should I replace it with? I find myself having lot’s of flying types switching in on gliscor, should I replace stealth rock with an attack that hits them?

Three more decisions with this guy, should I switch leftovers with something else? and Sand Veil, mostly used in case a sandstorm team comes, but should it be hyper cutter? and I put the 4 evs in defense, but should they be somewhere else? please answer those questions in your replies.

Rotom-f@Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 hp / 120 def / 136 spd
Nature: Bold
- Blizzard
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

yes, snoozing fridge. blizzard and t-bolt for the coveted boltbeam combo. rest and sleep talk for hp recovering while still attacking. and the bold nature is used for taking physical hits well.

But should this one be replaced for another Pokemon? I find that rotom is lacking from what I would expect, he used to be my scizor counter, but with heatran, his purpose here is completely mush.

so that's my hail team, please make comments. and if there are any grammatical errors, let me know. thanks much!

Heatran should definitely have Explosion over SR, mainly because it seems that your Gliscor is a lead Gliscor and two Pokemon with SR is redundant. Plus, Heatran with Explosion is a must over SR, which easily takes out Blissey and Snorlax, two very common special walls in OU.

Gliscor actually functions better as a lead than Heatran, so I would go with Focus Sash, swap out Roost for Aerial Ace, and put the HP EVs into Attack and the 4 into HP. If you want to keep Gliscor as a physical wall, then swap Gliscor's SR for Aerial Ace, keep the EV spread, and swap Rotom-F for a decent lead. Swampert, Aerodactyl, Flygon, or Azelf would really benefit this team as a lead. Use the Smogon Pokedex as a starting point for these leads and go from there. And don't worry about poisioning Breloom; most (if not all) Brelooms carry a Toxic Orb with Poison heal anyway.

Otherwise, great team :)

Firstly, you might want to flesh out your descriptions.

For a hail-based stall team, this team isn't very hail based or stall-like. You only have 2 hail-resistant pokemon, and 3 pokemon who use blizzard. That's all that the hail gives you.

You consider switching Rotom out, which would be relatively unwise, as it gives Spinners an opportunity to get rid of all your entry hazards. Switch to Froslass instead, with a max HP/def set, and Thunder Wave, Substitute, Spikes, and your choice of Ice Beam, Taunt, Confuse Ray, or Blizzard. Twave on the switch, throw up a sub, set up spikes, and enjoy watching your opponents try and hit through paralysis, confusion, and the 20% evasion boost Froslass gets from her ability. She stalls surprisingly well, considering her lack of bulk. A combination of Stallass and Stallrein, with multiple entry hazards up, will annoy most opponents, at least.

For any weather based team, it is a good idea to have the weather started up as soon as possible, so Abomasnow should be your lead.

Why do you have 252 HP and speed on your Gliscor? I suggest you make it a swords dance set and use the EV spread of 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 Def. Gliscor seems out of place for defense on a hail team, and it benefits best from sandstorm--even its ability does (hyper cutter is better). You should probably replace it with blizzard Mamoswine to gain advantage from hail, be able to dispatch off some of its physical wall counters, and give a slightly better physical edge (and revenge killing priority).

Also, blizzard>sludge bomb on Tentacruel, as 1) it benefits from hail, and 2) it has better coverage than sludge bomb. Just because sludge bomb gets STAB doesn't mean it's good.

@history of stone
gliscor is used as a way to take scizors hits and switch to heatran and could also be used as a blissey killer considering that he is my only way of using physical attack, and if i take him out for a blizzard mamoswine, my team falls into the hands of a blissey with flamethrower killing half of my team.

@tater tot
i haven't even considered froslass, she might do good, i'll test that as soon as i can. but that does contradict sithsnipers advice... fight it out! nah, just kidding. fogive me, for i am still new at competitively battling, but what do i do in the meantime once i've set up twave spikes and confuse ray?

@sithsniper17
i will try yours and tater tots ideas and figure out which is better, thank you for settling my debate of who gets sr.

@nightmare jigglypuff
you told yourself you wouldn't do things like replying to several people in 1 post... why did you break your promise?

Actually running Sand Veil is better to take advantage of Tyranitar's sandstream and break it with repeated Earthquakes.

Oh, and Tyranitar is NOT covered by Tentacruel, Tentacruel can't switch in on a Crunch/Stone Edge/Earthquake.

I also suggest using Choice Scarf Heatran over your current one to revenge kill Scizor who otherwise sweeps this team if Tentacruel is dead.

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
252 SpA / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Naive
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Explosion
- Hidden Power Grass / Electric / Dragon Pulse.

I also suggest giving Abomasnow more bulk because it really doesn't need SpA so Blizzard hits hard, it needs more survivability, 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD with a Sassy or Calm nature should be used.
