OU Hail Team

This is my first post.

I have been running a SandStall team for a long time, but I love Garchomp as my endgame sweeper and can't stand to not have him available. I do hope he comes back to OU due to the new toys available and Latias dropping to OU. However until that day I am going a different route. A balanced Hail team that uses Weavile as the endgame sweeper with everyone else softening up the competition.

Forretress w/Shed Shell
252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD
Sassy/Relaxed

Stealth Rock
Spikes
Gyro Ball
Explosion

Similar to the Standard and I chose Spikes over Toxic Spikes b/c I am not trying to do a complete stall. Setup and pop. I can't gaurantee that I will get more than SR and 1 layer up before he is brought down or I have to explode. Spikes is here for immediate damage not poison damage.

Abomasnow w/Big Root
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 HP
Timid

Blizzard
Grass Knot
Protect
Leech Seed

He has to be here whether I like it or not. Big Root is here instead of Leftovers b/c I play a lot of tournaments (local or otherwise) that use the VGC rules. Protect aids in recovery while Leech Seed and Hail soften them up. Hopefully with him coming out second he can take down the sandstorm from lead Hippowdons and Tyranitars.

Rotom-F w/Choice Specs
252 SpA/252 Spe/4 HP
Timid

Thunderbolt
Trick
Thunder Wave
Blizzard

He is good to take on Gyarados as well as switch in on Fighting attacks. Most fighting attacks are on physical attackers to Choice Specs will be useless. Using Trick on one pokemon and then Thunder Wave the next to help reduce the number of problems.

Starmie w/Light Clay (Natural Cure)
252 HP/252 Spe/4 Def
Timid/Modest

Surf
Recover
Rapid Spin
Reflect

Used to support the team and remove SR and others. Surf helps keep Infernape down along with Hippowdon. Relect helps mitigate the Fighting and Rock weaknesses. Recover helps reduce damage from entry hazards and hail. Can be useful in stalling, but he is not that bulky.

Walrein w/Leftovers (Ice Body)
252 HP/252 Def/4 SpD
Bold/Calm

Protect
Roar
Toxic
Blizzard

Mostly Stallrein, but again he is not the beast but merely a tool to soften up. I chose Roar instead of Substitute b/c he is so slow. Toxic is here in case I need it. Walrein is used as a phazer to bring about passive damage. Protect allows a few turns of recovery in between roars. Ice body and leftovers have kept him around for while and have brought at least two of my opponents teams to 1/2 hp every time.

Weavile w/Life Orb
252 At/252 Spe/4 Def
Adamant

Ice Punch
Night Slash
Swords Dance
Brick Break

After the opponents have been worn down and his counters are gone, Weavile can sweep without problems. Swords Dance if I can get it, but I probably wont even try. I chose the higher powered attacks because he is a late game sweeper, not a revenge killer. Weavile is meant to be the endgame sweeper. When he is brought i mean to end the game. He has decent coverage with his attacks and will hit very hard with his high attack stat and life orb. This has usually resulted in 3 to 4 of the remaing ko's of my opponents. That is why everyone else is there for wearing them down or taking out weaviles countes.

Thank you. Feel free to express your opinion.

Your Abomasnow set does not really seem to accomplish much other than setting up hail. Sure, you seed something, but then you'll be forced out a turn or two after. Without Substitute, you can't even SubSeed against slower walls. I'd suggest changing Abomasnow's set:

Abomasnow @ Leftovers
Nature: Careful / EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
~ Leech Seed / Substitute / Blizzard / Grass Knot or Protect

The goal is simple: come in on Water-types not named Gyarados and set up on them. Suicune and Vaporeon cannot do anything to you. Watch as their Ice Beams and Surfs bounce off like nothing. Use Grass Knot if you want a quicker way to dispose of Water-types (and also doing a lot of damage to Tyranitar) or Protect if you desire to damage Scizor a lot before you switch out.

Your Rotom-F can also not counter Gyarados very well at all. A Life Orb Waterfall may even kill Rotom-F, especially after a turn or two of hail damage. Since you don't have Leftovers, you too are vulnerable to hail damage. Thus I would suggest a slightly different set:

Rotom-F @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid / EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
- Thunderbolt / Blizzard / Hidden Power Fighting or Will-O-Wisp / Pain Split

A slightly different version of Rotom. This set abuses Rotom-F's new move, Pain Split, to recover health, especially against the likes of Blissey. Thunderbolt and Blizzard provide the great boltbeam type coverage, while HP Fighting hits Tyranitar mighty hard. You also hit Magnezone and Heatran fairly hard. You can also use Will-O-Wisp to burn Tyranitar, along with a lot of other Pokemon. With near max HP, you counter Gyarados a whole lot better, and easily OHKO with Thunderbolt. Makes a great Scizor / Metagross counter as well. Good luck.

No one plays with item clause, so don't bother trying to put different items on all your Pokemon. Only Nintendo's VGC tournaments use it, and those are all 3vs.3 single battles or 4vs.4 double battles so this team won't work in those formats (also you can't use Rotom forms on WiFi).

Anyways, you don't have a Toxic Spikes absorber, which means all your opponent has to do is lay down Toxic Spikes and then switch to a Ghost type like Rotom to prevent Starmie from spinning them away. With Toxic Spikes on your team's side, Walrein is unable to stall and Abomasnow and Weavile won't last long either.

Replace Starmie with Tentacruel.

Tentacruel @Leftovers
Calm
252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Liquid Ooze
-Rapid Spin
-Toxic Spikes
-Surf
-Blizzard

I recommend replacing Ice Punch on Weavile with Ice Shard, and Brick Break with Low Kick, as most things that dare to stop him are bulky and slow (not to mention heavy). Also, your team is quite weak to Fire attacks (which Hail teams, yes, have most of the time, but you have nothing to take them). I recommend a bulky water that will be able to weather all the Hail while at the same time do it's job and block fire attacks. Since Aragornbird+ (lol) recommended Tentacruel, I would have to recommend Crocune or Vaporeon, as their stalling tactics (Suicune's CM + Rest and Vaporeon's Wish + Protect) will thrive in a Hail atmosphere. Vaporeon will be more of a team player, and depending on her last slot (HP Electric or Toxic), you will have another answer to bulky waters next to Abomasnow. Your Rotom set should be a bulky Rest-Talk set I think, since with all the Hail and Stealth Rock (in case you haven't spun it from your field yet), Rotom will need a way to survive it all. Rotom also needs to be your answer to Scizor and Metagross, since they will run through this team. Here is the set:

Rotom-F @ Leftovers - Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 58 Def / 200 SpD
Moves:
~ Discharge
~ Will-O-Wisp
~ Rest
~ Sleep Talk

Will-O-Wisp will make it difficult for strong attackers like Tyranitar, Gyarados, and Scizor to hurt your team like they could. Discharge is for STAB, paralysis support (which after using Hail I have enjoyed from Hariyama), and something to hurt Heatran a little more than Shadow Ball will. Calm can be changed to Bold as well.

Forretress isn't a very efficient lead as it once was, being very slow, susceptible to taunt, and rather weak. Having a Rapid Spinner with Tentacruel, a good lead for a Hail team is Gliscor (strange I know). He will take advantage of enemy sandstorm weather changes, he can revenge kill Lucario (provided he runs Jolly and 216 Speed EVs), wall Tyranitar, provide Stealth Rock, Roost off whatever he is losing, and Taunt the slower leads. He has Fighting, Ground and Electric resists, draws in bulky waters for Abomasnow to set snow up or Walrein to beat. He also has excellent synergy with Tentacruel (immune to Electric, Ground).
Gliscor set I suggest:

Gliscor @ Leftovers - Jolly
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Moves:
~ Earthquake
~ Roost
~ Stealth Rock
~ U-Turn/Taunt/Toxic

The last slot is up to your preference, I recommend trying each of them and seeing how they fare.

By this time you should have replaced Forretress with Gliscor (prefereably), Starmie with Tentacruel, and Walrein with Vaporeon. Just by having Weavile and Starmie (which are both fragile and fast), you can't pull off a Hail Stall. Therefore, Walrein isn't doing you any good.

Finally, after the changes I suggested, I took a look at Marriland's DP Team Builder, and the chart looks pretty good resistance-wise. I do however, suggest you find a place to put Bronzong or Heatran, as you have nothing to take the powerful Dragon attacks after this (though you have Weavile to revenge kill).

Good luck pissing your opponent off with Hail. xD

I was thinking about toxic spikes and that i need a rock resist so i thought about claydol instead of starmie with shadow ball to take on spin blockers, psychic, earth power for heatran and magnezone, and rapid spin. He gets around the toxic spikes with levitate. I will consider the tentacruel set.

I will think about vaporeon, but this team wasnt meant to be a full hail stall. Just using all of the entry hazards and hail that they would soften up for a later sweep. Once i am readt weavile will commence to knocking out the opponent and they will have to switch in recieiving even more hail damage.

Before i go investing more time on rotom, why can i not use rotom on wifi? I can use him on pbr, so what rule blocks him from wifi? Otherwise i will use a sleep talk set similar to the one posted. I think i could do a gliscor, but i remain undecided. I have one for a sandstall team that is similar, but i dont want eq on it because it is a doubles team. Thank you.

By replacing toxic spikes, walrein will no longer need toxic. Then you can replace toxic with super fang to make walrein stall for hell.

Also replace brick break on weavile to low kick to assure a kill on the heavy steel types.

For your rotom, replace choice specs with choice scarf if you want to counter gyrados, since gyrados can easily set up a single dd on your other members.

Anyways, gl with your team.

Hey cakedup, cool team you got here but I think it needs some changes. Since the goal of your team is to accomplish a sweep with Weavile with the use of entry hazards I will keep that in mind when rating your team. Now onto the rate. I think that Abomasnow would make a better lead due to the prominence of Taunt on leads.

Abomasnow @ Leftovers | Snow Warning
Sassy | 248 HP / 32 Spe / 228 SpD
Blizzard / Wood Hammer / Leech Seed / Protect

Abomasnow can act as your Latias check (LO sets without HP Fire, Scarf, Specs). The Speed EVs outspeed Swampert so you can strike it with Wood Hammer. Hail is started making Pokemon like Aerodactyl, Azelf, and Infernape less of a problem as it breaks the Sashes and you cannot switch in directly.

Forretress @ Shed Shell | Leftovers / Sturdy
Careful | 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Payback / Spikes / Rapid Spin / Toxic Spikes or Earthquake

Now since places have swapped I think Forretress would benefit a lot from Payback. Payback will take care of CM Refresh Latias as well as hitting Ghost types hard. You can opt to use Earthquake over Toxic Spikes in order to hit Infernape and Heatran switch ins.

Rotom-h @ Leftovers | Levitate
Timid | 248 HP / 72 Def / 188 Spe
Thunderbolt / Sleep Talk / Will-O-Wisp / Rest

I think the Rest Talk version of Rotom would do much better as you have Ice attacks coming off of half of your team members keeping Gliscor at bay. With the given EV spread you outspeed Adamant Lucario. Rotom also acts as your Gyarados check.

Now with that aside I think Swampert would do some good for your team. Providing as a counter to Tyranitar, a potent threat to hail and a counter to Scarf versions of Heatran.

Swampert @ Leftovers | Torrent
Relaxed | 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Earthquake / Blizzard / Roar / Stealth Rock

Because of hail, Blizzard has 100% accuracy and there is no need for running Special Attack EVs to OHKO Salamence. Swampert also provides the essential Stealth Rock and with Roar it can utilize your entry hazards to its full potential.

As for Walrein, I honesty feel that its dead weight. I think Gyarados would be a nice option over Walrein. Gyarados will be able to counter Lucario, check Infernape, and takes down stall breaker Heatran with Intimidate.

Gyarados @ Leftovers | Intimidate
Impish | 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe - You can use Speed EVs to beat other Rest Talk Gyarados to the Roar.
Waterfall / Roar / Rest / Sleep Talk

As for Weavile I think Swords Dance would not be the best way to utilize it. I think using it as a trapper and checks of sorts to Salamence, Latias, Starmie, Azelf, etc would work much better as they are pretty huge threats to stall. I understand you did not intend it to be a stall team but it has the presence of it. With the entry hazards and such you'll be able to take on Pokemon easier with Weavile as well as use Weavile to take down threats to stall so I think its a good deal.

Weavile @ Life Orb | Pressure
Jolly | 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Ice Shard / Night Slash / Pursuit / Low Kick

Hope I helped!
