XY OU OU: I Don't Know What to Call This...

Hi guys. This is my third RMT, and most of you (probably) don't know me. This is a team I randomly came up with in my head, and it's done pretty well, going 12-3. That may not be a lot for some of you, but for me that's better than pretty much 90% of all the teams I have ever made. Now let's get into the teambuilding process...

598.png
006-mx.png
184.png

So I wanted an SFD core, as well as an FWG core. So I thought "why not have both combined into 3 Pokemon???" That's where the team was made.

645.png

I wanted to try out Landorus again. So that's just what I did.

642.png

I find Thundurus to be a great partner with Landorus, and they work especially well on this team because of the number of defensive cores they tear apart together is just ridiculous.

I need a defogger after that, and also something that could check Talonflame fairly well.

380.png

Latias was added, with a twist to its set that you will read later (if you read it at all).

That's that, so let's get on to the team....

598.png

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 88 Def / 172 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave

Ferrothorn is my lead 100% of the time. It has a unique typing (I think) only shared with it's pre-evolved form, Ferroseed (again, I think). Ferrothorn is also part 1 of 3 of my Steel/Fairy/Dragon and Fire/Water/Grass core. It does its job, which is to stealthily place rocks around the opponent, very well. Leftovers is a standard item, the "other standard" being Rocky Helmet. Iron Barbs because Anticipation is only useful to scout if Pokemon like Tyranitar, Scizor, Azumarill, etc. have Brick Break/Superpower, but in the end Iron Barbs is much better. EVs are so Ferro can take hits from both physical and special attackers, except stuff like STAB Flare Blits/Flamethrower/Close Combat. Impish for an extra defense boost, making it even bulkier. Stealth Rock because nothing else on this team can afford to run it, and Power Whip for a strong STAB (and also so it's not total Taunt bait). Leech Seed for some extra healing, along with being annoying. Lastly, Thunder Wave is there to neuter fast, offensive threats.

006-mx.png

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze ---> Tough Claws
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

I would say Charizard X is the most broken Mega currently in the tier. I'm surprised it hasn't been suspected yet. But whatever. I'm not here to talk about suspect tests. Charizard X is my late game cleaner, and it is probably the best late game cleaner that I know of. The EVs and nature maximize it's speed and damage, and I run Jolly so I can outspeed Scarf Landorus-T at +1. Dragon Dance is to boost it's Attack and Speed, a necessity. Fire Punch over Flare Blits because I can't afford to drop something and run Roost. It still gets the job done though. Dragon Claw is a secondary STAB, and I use it when the opponent is neutral to both of my STABs and Earthquake can't hit them hard. Lastly, Earthquake is for some nice coverage that really helps against Heatran and Mega Manectric. Charizard X is also my Fire and Dragon part of my FWG and SFD core.

184.png

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry (too lazy to change right now but it will be AV because 2 people suggested it and I got an idea)
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Brick Break

I'd say this is a pretty standard BellyJet Azumarill set, except maybe Brick Break. Azumarill is a wallbreaker in this team, and it is amazing at that. I normally send Azu early game after Ferro throws pointed stones at the opponent's side. Ferrothorn lures in two major things Azumarill can counter: Keldeo and HP Fire Greninja. That's when I send Azumarill in Belly Drum as they switch out. From there, I just use the right attack to weaken their team. 252 HP is used over 248 because then Sitrus Berry doesn't activate after using Belly Drum (252 brings it down to 50%, whereas 248 would bring it to 51%). Attack is maximized with EVs, nature, and ability. The remaining 4 EVs I put into Special Defense for no particular reason. Belly Drum to...of course...maximize it's attack, and is also the main point of this set. Aqua Jet for some much needed priority. Play Rough for a hard hitting STAB, often doing more damage than Brick Break even on resisted Pokemon! Brick Break is to destroy Ferrothorn, Skarmory, and Mega Scizor.

380.png

Latias (F) @ Twisted Spoon (might be changed to Zapdos)
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 136 Def / 120 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Healing Wish
- Defog

Latias is my defogger and Talonflame check. Now you might be thinking: Twisted Spoon??!! Talonflame check??!! HOW??!! Let me explain. The EV spread is such that it is able to survive Banded Talonflame's Brave Bird, even after Stealth Rock. Also, with Twisted Spoon, Latias is able to OHKO Talonflame after it has used Brave Bird and it takes all that recoil damage. With the Speed EVs and nature, Latias outspeeds Keldeo (of course) and OHKO's with Psychic after SR. Also, it allows Latias to speed tie non-Scarf Latios and OHKO it, provided I win the speed tie. Draco Meteor for a strong STAB, and Psychic for Fighting types and Talonflame. Healing Wish is awesome late game when I need something healed and Latias won't be of much use. Defog to get rid rocks that Charizard and Thundurus hate.

645.png

Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rock Polish
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Psychic

Landorus is my wallbreaker, and sometimes a late game sweeper. Life Orb and Sheer Force give it immense power on its Earth Power and Focus Blast. EV spread is standard. Rock Polish is used over a coverage move because it helps outpseed fast stuff that my team can't get rid of easily, like Mega Manectric or ScarfChomp. Earth Power for a destructive STAB. Focus Blast for coverage, although it missed when I needed it most (which was, to KO Blissey). Hidden Power [Ice] to get rid opposing Landorus, as well as Landorus-T, Gliscor, and other Grounds. Changed Hidden Power [Ice] to Psychic because it was recommended and for MegaSaur.

642.png

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Oh. My. Glob. This thing is a total beast. I call it my "stallbreaking wallbreaker" because that's just what it does. That EV spread because....I don't know, the damage calculator had that as the standard EVs for Mixed Thundurus. The nature lets it outspeed Latios, which is a big thing. Thunderbolt for obvious STAB, and Superpower to destroy Chansey (and as of late, Blissey too). Knock Off removes pesky items like Leftovers and Eviolite and destroys Lati@s and Ghosts. Hidden Power [Ice] for Gliscor, Landorus (T), etc. I would like to replace Hidden Power [Ice] with Grass Knot to obliterate Quagsire, who I have know reliable way of getting around, thoughts on that?

Final Thoughts (and some other things)
So there's my team. It's done really well, compared to other teams I've made in the past. And this is one I actually put some thought into, rather than making it in 5 minutes. I can't even figure out what threats this team may have, because I barely pay attention to that. Only thing I can say is without Latias, I would get rekt by Talonflame. Hopefully you can see something I don't, and help me to fix it. Also, if anyone can recommend a spinner/defogger that handles Talonflame, please do suggest it!!

Importable: (this will change as well)

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Brick Break

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 88 Def / 172 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 136 Def / 120 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psychic
- Healing Wish
- Defog

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Superpower
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rock Polish
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Id simply call it good stuff xD lol it seems solid and all your pokes seem to support eachother pretty well, i feel as if landorus would be better as a mixed set, with choice scarf beating mega manectric does seem to be quite a priority

This is overall a pretty solid team. I just have a few suggestions for your movesets.

Charizard: Flare blitz is really necessary over fire punch. I know the recoil isn't nice, but the damage difference is just too great.

Azumarill: AV azumarill is probably the best set to use in OU, and brick break doesn't offer much coverage. Here's the set I would suggest:

184.png

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 16 HP / 252 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall

This azumarill can take special hits really well, and threatens a ton of mons in OU.

If you want an offensive latias, I would use a life orb with max speed/sp. atk and a timid nature. Psyshock is also a better move than psychic, as it allows you to hit av users and special walls that switch in on you. Surf or T-Bolt can be used over healing wish if you use an offensive set. If you want Latias to be a wall, invest in hp/sp. def with a calm nature and leftovers, and change healing wish to roost. Also, you should invest in hp before defenses 90% of the time, the exceptions being chansey/blissey, and av conkeldurr/azumarill. If you want a mix between offensive and defensive latias, you can use this set:

380.png

(Latias) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 80 HP / 176 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Defog
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor

This latias set allows you to survive 2 icy winds from specs keldeo, 2 fire blasts from zard y in the sun after rocks, and provides fast defog support while still having offensive presence.

Landorus: I would change hp ice for psychic or sludge wave personally, but if it's working for you then more power to you. Having a poison move can't hurt, since it will give your team a nice answer to cm clefable if zard x is dead.

This would just be called OU Goodstuffs, what it lacks in creativity it makes up for in raw power since its basic idea is "Let's take as many S/A+ rank mons as we can and put em in a team."

It's unimaginative but effective.

By mixed I assume you mean using Knock Off? And although Choice Scarf can help with Manectric, Mega Manectric is really just setup fodder for Zard X unless it runs something unusual like HP Ground.

This is overall a pretty solid team. I just have a few suggestions for your movesets.

I haven't tried Zard X in a while, so I could try out Flare Blits and see how it goes. AV Azu is no doubt good, but I really find Belly Drum to be a lot more helpful. I'm actually tired of using AV because that was the only Azu set I would run, so I decided to change it up here. For Latias, I like your in-between set, but I'll just twist it a bit so it can still take on Talonflame, because it is a problem...unless I take out Latias altogether and replace it with another spinner/defooger, like Mandibuzz or Zapdos. I think either of those can handle Talonflame pretty well. Still, I will try Latias out a bit more.

This would just be called OU Goodstuffs, what it lacks in creativity it makes up for in raw power since its basic idea is "Let's take as many S/A+ rank mons as we can and put em in a team."

It's unimaginative but effective.
Buddy if you read my teambuilding process, you would know my basic idea was having FWG + SFD in my team. Crushing walls/stall with Azu, Landorus, and Thundurus was just bonus because, I truly hate stall.

248 HP EVs on Ferrothorn does not do anything at all; 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef is fine.

To be honest, this team could be modified a bit, as some of your Pokemon contradict with each other.

For starters, I would change your Azumarill to an Assault Vest Azu. You do not need three cleaners, and you really need Azumarill to be bulkier so you can handle the Zards / Greninja / Keldeo effectively.

184.png
184.png

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Atk / 24 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

This team has no safe switch-in to Terrakion and Talonflame. Mega Pinsir is a problem too. To address these problems, I would switch your Landorus to a Scarfed Landorus-T. I would recommend a bulkier set, but seeing that you wanted a fast mon right away, you would be better off with a Scarf set. Landorus-T patches up these team's weaknesses while still giving you the speed to revenge kill important threats.

645-s.png

Landorus-T (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- U-turn

Now that you have a proper Talon check, you would be better off running a more efficient Latias set with Recover > Healing Wish so you can effectively take on Keldeo (your team does not need Healing Wish whatsoever:

380.png

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 112 HP / 144 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Recover

The EVs allow you to handle a Knock Off from Landorus a little better while still giving you a Life Orb number.

Also, Dragon Dance + 3 Attacks is a mediocre Zard-X set, I recommend a slightly bulkier spread with Roost so you do not get worn down so fast:

006-mx.png

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze ---> Tough Claws
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

Don't worry about Scarfed Landorus-T, the team is a little weak to it, but you just have to be smart about playing against it.

Make these changes, and you should be good to go. Good luck with the team. If there is something I have not fully explained, just tell me.

Don't worry about Scarfed Landorus-T, the team is a little weak to it, but you just have to be smart about playing against it.

Make these changes, and you should be good to go. Good luck with the team. If there is something I have not fully explained, just tell me.
Any reason for 88 HP EVs on Zard X? I mean, does it allow something to be turned into a 3HKO, or 2HKO, etc. And thanks for that Zard X set, I wanted Flare Blits, but for that I would most likely need Roost.

Also, I just can't replace Landorus...it is irreplaceable. Scarf Lando is just too obvious, but if I keep my 2 wallbreakers and change Azu to AV, then I don't think the team will have too much of a problem with walls/stall. As for Latias, I think I should just replace it as a whole with physically defensive Zapdos. Zapdos, too, can handle Talonflame, and Mega-Pinsir. Terrakion may kill something, but it can be revenge killed by Thundurus, unless it is scarf-locked into Stone Edge. Then that might be a bit tricky...

But thanks all for the rates :)

Added some replays. Was unexpectedly busy yesterday...

All teams have issues some stall teams, but that Landorus set is not beating most stall teams because Specially Defensive GLiscor exists. The changes I made are fine, you really need AV Azumarill / Latias / Scarf Landorus-T for the reasons I listed.

88 HP EVs on Charizard give you a little more bulk, and allows you to PP stall Rotom-W's Hydro Pumps with Roost a little easier, so yes, it is needed.

No Landorus can take on all stallmons. That's where Thundurus comes in, beating whatever Landorus can't and vice-versa. I NEED both on my team because I am terrible with stall.

And yes, Azu will change to AV although I will miss BD. Since Azu can easily take on Keldeo, Latias isn't too useful imo unless for Zard Y, but that's it.

Stall has adapted to Landorus, and competent Stall teams usually pack Specially Defensive Gliscor as a means of handling Landorus. If they do not have SpD Glisor, then you might see Specially Defensive Gyarados.

Again, that's where Thundurus comes in....

Testing out some stuff right now so may not be updated...
