Salvete Omnes! This is my first RMT and I'm attempting to bring together an in-game team that features one of the more interesting Mega Evolutions, Mawile. After a quiet afternoon in Showdown chat, I was introduced to Scolipede Baton-Pass into Megawile action. From this, I decided to build a team around this core.
Now, before reading on, keep in mind I intend to make this in-game so please no tricky hidden powers nor obscure tutor moves from distant generations. Any criticism would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance. :)
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 Def
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Taunt
For my lead, I went with anti-lead Greninja. This guy is fantastic. I forgot which RMT someone introduced this guy–but no matter, he can screw up any hazards/screens/status effects about 2/3 of the time. The few that outspeed him (Klefki *shakes fist*) can still place one stack of spikes or what have you for that one turn however. Very potent movepool, and he's a strong member of the team.
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Slack Off
The first half of my defensive core, he has a very strong stall and switch out/in. Compliments the weaknesses of Goodra quite nicely. His coverage is iffy, but for now he's a reliable defensive wall of sorts.
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Power Whip
- Dragon Tail
The second half of my defensive core, compliments Slowbro fantastically. Many people underestimate the physical side of Goodra, but with Sap Sipper and any Scolipede switch in that may occur, he sweeps a fair amount of things that Mawile cannot. Gooey doesn't fit the playstyle of this team well–for the ones that need a speed boost usually get it from Scolipede and the ones that don't are bulky enough to manage. Dragon Tail is for hazing, but still, nonexistent upon the likes of Sylveon etc. Although he compliments the defensive curve of the team, this is the first one I've been looking to replace.
Scolipede @ Black Sludge
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 34 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Megahorn
- Swords Dance
- Protect
- Baton Pass
The first half of the bread and butter of this team, he is a god of this generation's Baton Passing. I usually switch him in on fairies and the like to get a free Swords Dance from the switch out as well as a Protect after that. However, I feel like I haven't used his full potential (the only pokes truly benefitting form his Swords Dance being Goodra and Mawile), however his speed passing has some utility.
Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge
The second half of the bread and butter of this team, hell, the reason for the team, she is a goddess. Because of the Baton Pass, she has a proper moveset to cover just about anything that's bothersome for her sweep. Although, this is a delicate sweep. And this team does not have much in terms of insurance if she (or Scolipede) fails.
Mandibuzz (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
- Taunt
Good ol' Mandi, she can definitely bring more to the table though. Basically, because my team lies bereft of Stealth Rock or other entry hazards, Mandi is designed to simply Defog. Unfortunately, the blatant weakness to SR is debilitating, whenever it does go up. Foul Play is nice and carves a lovely niche against the crux of Gyrados and Dragonite sweeps. Otherwise, highly replaceable. In fact, I've been debating on switching to a Life Orb Scizor or not...
And there it is. Again, any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. I feel like a few aspects of this team feel right, however the likes of Goodra and Mandibuzz give an awkward lack of synergy and another weakness to ice that my Scolipede already suffers from as well. Any alternate movesets or replacements would be fantastic.
Vale!
