[OU] Moltres Stall

Okay. This is not only the first RMT I have done for the Platimun metagame, but also the first since Garchomp was banned, AND the first stall team I have done. I have seen some success with the team on shoddy, going 7-2 of the nine games I have played. The focus of the team is to throw tons of spike effects over the other side, and punish with toxicstallers and wallbreakers. I should probably put in a rapid spin blocker somewhere, now that I think about it.

My team at a glance:

My lead. He sets up the Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock. He then leaves and uses Rapid Spin to keep the team healthy. HEEEERE'S
dpmfb205.png

Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP/112 Atk/144 Def
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Stealth Rock
---

(I have found that I am able to reliably lay down three layers of spikes before he dies on Shoddy. This usually means that I use Toxic Spikes twice and one layer of Stealth Rock.)

I needed a counter to most of the games threats to this team, and it does an excellent job. Replaced Discharge for Thunderbolt because I don't want to accidently Paralyze something I want to Toxic. HEEERE's
dpmfb233.png

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpA
Bold nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
- Toxic
---

Set up Sand Stream and break down walls while being a stall guy himself. He is the infamous boah wallbuster supreme, HEEEERE'S
dpmfb248.png

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/52 Atk/28 Spd/176 SAtk
Quiet nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Focus Punch
- Dark Pulse
- Thunderbolt/Ice Beam
- Substitute
---

Boah has been exceptional in my team. The surprise factor allows the substitute to go up. The substitute allows Tyranitar to hit at a multitude of weaknesses in teams, whether to completely screw over his counters or just to put a huge hole in the opposing team.

She keeps the whole team healthy while absorb pathetic Special hits. She has to be the most OverUsed Pokemon in all of the game. Ever. HEEEERE'S

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Def / 108 SpA
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Seismic Toss
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Softboiled

---

Not much more needs to be said. Best Special wall in the game. She can Toxic flyers and levatators and Flame steels.

My WishPasser and Phazer. She can absorb hits from a lot of the team's weaknesses and heal them off using wish and protect HEEEERE's
dpmfb134.png

Vaporeon (M)@ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Def / 128 Spe
Bold (+Def. -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Surf
- Roar
---

I desperately needed something that could tank and pass healing to the rest of my team (Blissey can't do it in WiFi).

Probably the most annoying Pokemon on this team, combining Toxic and STAB Flamethrower with a reliable healing move (as well as a 4x weak to Stealth Rock). Also, the number one stall guy on the team, HEEEERE'S
dpmfb146.png

Moltres @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP/148 Def/112 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- Substitute
- Roost
- Toxic
---

How I love this guy. He is the linch-pin of the team. STAB Flamethrower scares the steels off and Toxic is there to ensure that EVERYTHING is intoxicated.

For fear that I did not write enough...
THREAT LIST [WIP]

For some odd reason, Smogon is not posting it correctly from my Word Processor. I'll have to find ToF's post again and copy it down. Again. -.-'

I'll use my 24-hour bump now.

I do have a problem though. I have decided to make this a WiFi team, which means that I cannot use Wish Blissey (unless someone would like to trade one to me).

This means that a minimum of one pokemon will have to go for a wish passer. Blissey is not that one pokemon. I already have an Aromabliss trained, but I think that the standerd Toxic, Flamethrower, Siesmic Toss, Softboiled Blissey would work best here. I'll look into using an -eon or Jiachi somewhere.

Suggestions?

Articuno does moltres's job much better due to more bulk.

Also, on cress i'd suggest dropping one of its moves for moonlight, and maybe switching out charge beam for calm mind.

How do you handle Heatran, it seems to be a big threat to this team.
Heatran can come in on T-spikes, Moltres's Toxic, Cressilia/Blissey's ice beam, Forretress's rapid spin, and Azelf's Flamethrower, etc.

The only hope you have of handling Heatran is if you can get it with a Focus Punch from T-tar, or Blissey can S-Toss it to death.

Both of those options are risky, since Heatran can just use Earth Power to defeat a weakened T-tar, and explode right in Blissey's face.

Luckily, there is a simple solution to your dilemia.
Try out Porygon2, it can counter Heatran/Gyarados/Salamence all at once.
If you decide to use my suggestion, try replacing Cressilia with the following set/spread:

Pory2 @ Leftovers
252 HP/216 Def/40 SpA

Ice Beam
Discharge/Thunderbolt
Recover
Toxic

I believe that this will solve your gyara/tran weakness pretty nicely.

Good Luck.

@DarXidE, Maybe. But can Articuno hit with a SE STAB Flamethrower on Steels?

@Finaldmge, I love the floating duck o doom (EDIT~ not Cresselia lol). In my wifi team right now, I run him as a lead with Magic Coat. Toxic here maybe overkill though, especially if I put it on Blissey. I think that I'll switch Toxic on Moltres to Will-o-wisp.

Thanks.

If you want, you could run Magic Coat.
I seriously recommend Toxic as it goes well with your team, and if T-spikes isn't up, Toxic could come in handy.

Also, I would deeply advise not to run WoW over Toxic on Moltres.
If you did that, fire-types would walk all over it.
A combination of Toxic & Flamethrower can damage almost every pokemon.

-FD.

Definitely don't put Will-O-Wisp over Toxic on Moltres. If you burn something, you won't be able to Toxic it since you can't give a Poke 2 statuses. This will conflict with your toxic-stall.

I recommend also throwing in a defensive Gyarados with Roar since a phazer is essential on stall, both to rack up entry hazard damage and to get rid of pokes that may try to set up. Looking at your threat list, I see Suicune, Breloom, and Heatran are all highlighted as problem pokes. Gyara should be able to handle all of these one way or another.

1) Breloom: Gyara resists Fighting and won't take much from Seed Bomb and can roar out his Sub. Do this a few times and 'loom will be in KO range for another poke. If you use Rest Talk Gyara, you can absorb the sleep and roar him out.

2) Suicune: Unless it has HP Electric, you can roar away any attempts by Suicune to set up Calm Minds since Surf and Ice Beam won't do much to Gyara. If it has HP Electric, you can most likely handle it with Blissey, since, HP Electric sets usually aren't equipped to handle Bliss.

3) Heatran: Heatran just can't do much to Gyara considering just about every 'tran has the Fire Blast / Earth Power combo which Gyara doesn't fear. Sub + Toxic Tran also can't do much to Rest Talk Gyara.

Also, since you're using Moltres I guess it's safe to assume that you will be keeping Stealth Rock off the field, which helps Gyarados do his job even better.

Moltres can handle Heatran. And win a stall war thanks to Pressure.

Hetran's no problem if there are no rocks (50% hurts)

That and Heatran cant get past Tar, Bliss or Moltres lol. Its really not a problem. Explosion cant really be taken into account when countering Heatran since every non ghost/resist Heatran counter is at risk from it (even p2, Cune, Vappy etc who are regarded as near 100% tran counters) regardless and if it blows up its no longer a threat.

Anyways, really what is the point of a suicide lead on a stall team. ?_? Stall teams NEED every member so you can actually counter things and perform your game plan.

Id HIGHLY consider a Rapid Spin blocker>> Azelf or you wont be stalling anything for long.

I mean you wont lose much from doing so either since you can just slap Stealth Rock on Tyranitar if you replace Azelf and use a support set>>boah, probably with Roar too which might be helpful with all the spikes you are abusing and then lead with that.

No it cant, but can moltres hit with a SE STAB ice beam on flying/dragon/ground types, the more popular types?
The reason Moltres works better than Articuno is that Steels aren't affected by his Toxic stall strategy, so Moltres can combat steels with Fire attacks. With Articuno, Steels would still be a problem since you couldn't Toxic stall them and most easily shrug off Ice Beam. Ground / Flying / Dragon types can be Toxic'd and stalled out. At least that is what I gathered from his overall strategy.

@WoW. Figures. Why did I not think of that.
@Dark123. It was a disruption technique. Plus, blowing up on a Blissey never gets old :D.
@xWOLFYx, You got it right. Gyarados? Never thought of that...

EDIT~ I decided to go with Vaporeon, because I needed a Wish Passer and Blissey can't do it any more because I want to take the team to wifi.

I will update the top post. I will delete the threat list and the process to make it easier on the eyes for now.
