OU OU Offensive Quiver Dance Volcarona Revamp (Overview + OO + CC) [QC 2/2] [GP 1/1] [DONE]

[OVERVIEW]

Volcarona scatters its embers across the battlefield as one of the scariest sweepers in the OU tier thanks to its solid Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, potent STAB combination, and access to the incredible Quiver Dance. Its solid coverage and item options enable it to tailor itself to its team's needs and overcome traditional answers. Its Speed stat enables it to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame and Choice Scarf Landorus-T after a Quiver Dance. Volcarona often finds setup opportunities against common Steel- and Fairy-types like Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, Magearna, and Clefable, and with Substitute + Swarm, it can potentially outplay and beat Chansey after enough Quiver Dance boosts. Additionally, Flame Body grants Volcarona a valuable role as a setup sweeper that can punish revenge killers like Mega Medicham and Mega Lopunny, and it more easily handles Mega Mawile should it invest its EVs in physical bulk. However, its typing leaves it riddled with a nasty 4x weakness to Stealth Rock and weaknesses to common attacking types, such as Water and Flying. Volcarona also can't fit all of the coverage it wants in one set, as it will lose to specific Pokemon depending on the coverage move; it loses to Mega Tyranitar without Bug Buzz, can't do much to Heatran without Hidden Power Ground, and is walled by Toxapex without Psychic. Additionally, its poor Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to revenge killing attempts from priority users, such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir, and it is outpaced by faster Pokemon, such as Choice Scarf Greninja, Hawlucha after activating Unburden, and weather sweepers like Sand Rush Excadrill and Mega Swampert under their weather, even after a Quiver Dance boost. As a result, it requires plenty of support, especially the removal of entry hazards, to truly flourish.

Moves
=========

Quiver Dance turns Volcarona into a dangerous wallbreaker and late-game sweeper. Volcarona's choice of Fire-type STAB move depends on whether it wants consistent accuracy and PP or more power; both of these moves torch Grass- and Steel-types like Serperior, Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, and Celesteela, while Fire Blast allows Volcarona to cleanly OHKO Choice Scarf Landorus-T and gives the highest possible chance to OHKO Gliscor and defensive Landorus-T at +1 after Stealth Rock. Bug Buzz threatens bulky Psychic-types like Mega Latias, Slowbro, and Cresselia, and it hits neutral targets like Garchomp for major damage. Giga Drain is Volcarona's strongest coverage option against Mega Diancie and Gastrodon and extends its longevity. Psychic smashes the likes of Toxapex and Kommo-o. Finally, Hidden Power Ground lets Volcarona pressure Heatran.

Set Details
========

The given Speed investment and a Timid nature ensure that Volcarona Speed ties against Pokemon like Mega Medicham and Mega Charizard Y. Volcarona is flexible with its item of choice. Buginium Z lets Volcarona deal massive damage with +1 Savage Spin-Out against neutral targets like OHKOing Manaphy from full HP and Seismitoad after Stealth Rock. If Volcarona is knocked into low HP, it can use an Aguav Berry to regain lost HP in a pinch and ensure that Greninja doesn't pick it off with Water Shuriken when it's boosted. Lum Berry lets Volcarona shrug off status attempts like Toxic from Gliscor and Heatran and Thunder Wave from Slowbro and Ferrothorn. Leftovers is an option in a similar manner to Aguav Berry to slowly recover HP, making Volcarona harder to chip down. Psychium Z should be used if Volcarona carries Psychic so that Shattered Psyche guarantees an OHKO on Toxapex. Firium Z turns Fire Blast into a one-time nuke and allows Volcarona to muscle past Chansey after prior chip damage. Lastly, Life Orb ensures a favorable chance to OHKO Clefable with +1 Fire Blast, and it synergizes well with Giga Drain to negate the recoil damage that Volcarona takes.

Usage Tips
========

Offensive Volcarona serves as a potent wallbreaker and a late-game cleaner, and it benefits from the removal of checks like Chansey before attempting to sweep. If it is used early in the game, it can bust open holes to soften checks like Heatran for its teammates to clean up later in the game. Volcarona despises entry hazards, as this will prevent it from starting its sweep, so it is recommended to keep hazards off the field before Volcarona can get ready to sweep. Volcarona often finds setup opportunities against a multitude of Pokemon, ranging from Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Magearna, and Mega Scizor to Choice-locked Pokemon like Kartana and Tapu Lele. Volcarona must conserve its HP as much as possible, as taking chip damage decreases its setup opportunities later in the game and leaves it more susceptible to revenge killing attempts from Pokemon like Mega Lopunny. Therefore, the best methods of bringing Volcarona in safely are aggressive switches, pivot support from Volt Switch and U-turn, and switching in after a teammate is KOed. Volcarona must also be wary of Pokemon that can afflict it with status conditions, such as Toxic from Heatran, especially if it does not run Lum Berry to shrug them off.

Team Options
========

This Volcarona variant is a natural fit on offense, bulky offense, and hyper offense teams, which value its ability to clean weakened teams late-game. Strong wallbreakers like Mega Mawile, Kyurem-B, and Tapu Lele are fantastic partners for Volcarona, busting through annoying checks like Chansey and, depending on Volcarona's choice of coverage, Toxapex and Heatran. Additionally, Tapu Lele summons Psychic Terrain, powering up Volcarona's Psychic and preventing priority users like Ash-Greninja and Mega Lopunny from attempting to pick Volcarona off. Multiple forms of entry hazard prevention are highly recommended; on hyper offense teams, Volcarona can be paired with a lead like Mega Diancie, Taunt Mew, Excadrill, or Imprison Landorus-T with a Defogger like Serperior, while bulkier offense teams use a Defogger like Tapu Fini or Rotom-W with offensive variants of Mega Diancie or a secondary Defogger like Choice Scarf Landorus-T. Serperior utilizes Taunt to shut down Chansey, making it easier to wear it down with repeated attacks and Rocky Helmet chip damage; Tapu Fini handles Ash-Greninja and provides support with Misty Terrain, protecting Volcarona from status conditions and granting it safer setup opportunities; Rotom-W checks Mega Swampert and provides Volcarona a safe entry with Volt Switch; and Choice Scarf Landorus-T handles Mega Diancie and Mega Charizard X and brings Volcarona in safely with U-turn. Greninja is also a great partner for Volcarona, as Ash-Greninja overwhelms shared checks like Toxapex and benefits from Volcarona removing Grass-types like Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu. Protean Greninja is also notable, as Fightinium Z variants can bait in and eliminate Chansey with All-Out Pummeling, and Groundium Z variants eliminate Toxapex with Tectonic Rage. Dragon Dance sweepers like Gyarados, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X complement Volcarona very well, as they can overwhelm shared checks like Toxapex for the other to clean up later in the game. Fighting-type partners like Mega Medicham and Kommo-o form a splendid partnership with Volcarona, as it greatly appreciates the removal of Chansey, while Kommo-o uses its typing to handle Ash-Greninja. Kommonium Z variants of Kommo-o can also pressure Tapu Fini and Haze Toxapex with Taunt and force chip damage against them, and they benefit from the removal of Fairy-types, which block Clangorous Soulblaze and prevent Kommo-o from cleaning up late-game. Magearna is also a strong teammate for Volcarona, as Volcarona threatens Steel-types like Mega Scizor, Celesteela, and opposing Magearna. Cresselia grants crucial support with Lunar Dance to restore Volcarona back to full HP and remove any status ailments it has, allowing a second chance to sweep.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Fiery Dance is an alternative Fire-type option to have a random chance of raising Volcarona's Special Attack, but its lower Base Power makes it an inferior option compared to Flamethrower. Hidden Power Ice can be used over Hidden Power Ground to more consistently OHKO the likes of Gliscor, Landorus-T, Garchomp, and a chipped Dragonite. However, without Hidden Power Ground, Volcarona is left at the mercy of Heatran. A Modest nature is an option on offensive variants to maximize Volcarona's damage output to allow the highest possible chance to OHKO bulky Tornadus-T with a +1 Fire Blast without Stealth Rock. However, this leaves Volcarona outpaced and revenge killed by Choice Scarf Landorus-T.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Entry Hazards**: Volcarona despises all forms of hazards, especially Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, as they will reduce its setup opportunities later in the game.

**Faster Revenge Killers and Priority**: Pokemon like Choice Scarf Greninja, Hawlucha after activating Unburden, and weather sweepers like Sand Rush Excadrill and Mega Swampert outpace Volcarona even after a Quiver Dance and will threaten it back with major damage. Additionally, priority users, such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, Mega Pinsir, Ash-Greninja, and Crawdaunt, can come in and revenge kill a weakened Volcarona; however, they must do so at their own risk due to the chance of being burned by Flame Body, except in the case of Ash-Greninja, which can struggle to find a KO if Volcarona stacks enough boosts.

**Special Walls**: Chansey doesn't take much from Volcarona's attacks thanks to its massive special bulk, recovers any damage taken with Soft-Boiled, wears Volcarona down with Seismic Toss, and places it on a timer with Toxic. However, Chansey can be pressured and potentially outplayed by the Substitute + Swarm set. Volcarona must also be wary of Unaware Clefable, as it ignores Volcarona's boosts, turns it into setup fodder with Calm Mind, and stalls out its attacking PP with Wish + Protect.

**Water-types**: Toxapex is a solid answer to Volcarona sets lacking Psychic, can remove its stat boosts with Haze, and will put it on a timer with Toxic. Pelipper, Gyarados, and Keldeo resist both of Volcarona's STAB options and strike back with their super effective STAB moves. However, they can be blown away by the Psychium Z variant, and Keldeo must also be wary of Giga Drain. Manaphy and Gastrodon are bulky enough to survive +1 Bug Buzz and retaliate with Hydro Vortex and Toxic, respectively.

**Rock-types and Rock-type Coverage**: Mega Diancie resists both of Volcarona's STAB options and threatens it with an OHKO with Diamond Storm; however, Giga Drain can catch Mega Diancie by surprise. Mega Tyranitar takes on Volcarona variants that lack Bug Buzz and forces them out with Stone Edge. Volcarona must also watch out for Pokemon that can threaten it with Rock-type coverage moves, such as Stone Edge from Landorus-T and Tapu Bulu.

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Kommo-o, Dragonite, and the rare Mega Altaria don't take much from Volcarona's STAB options and force it out in return. The former two can nab free setup opportunities against it, while Mega Altaria can cripple it with Toxic or phaze it with Roar. However, Kommo-o must be wary of variants that carry Psychic.

**Fire-types**: Both Mega Charizard formes resist both of Volcarona's STAB moves and fire back with heavy damage. Additionally, Heatran is immune to Volcarona's Fire-type STAB option thanks to Flash Fire, pressures it with Taunt, and puts it on a timer with Toxic; however, Heatran must watch out for Hidden Power Ground. Victini deserves a mention because it is bulky enough to survive +1 Bug Buzz and threaten it back with V-create.

[OVERVIEW]

Volcarona scatters its embers across the battlefield as one of the scariest sweepers in the OU tier thanks to Quiver Dance, solid Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed, STAB combination, reliable recovery in Roost, and two amazing I prefer a more neutral term here since none of these abilities are amazing abilities in Flame Body and Swarm. Its solid coverage and item options enable it to pick which Pokemon it needs to handle for its team. Its Speed stat enables it to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame and Choice Scarf users, such as Tapu Lele and Landorus-T, after a Quiver Dance. Volcarona often finds setup opportunities in a tier packed with Steel- and Fairy-types like Ferrothorn, Mega Scizor, Magearna, and Tapu Lele Clefable. With Substitute + Swarm, it can also potentially outplay and beat even Chansey after enough boosts. Flame Body grants it a valuable role as a setup sweeper that can punish revenge killers like Mega Medicham and Mega Lopunny, as well as wallbreakers like Mega Mawile, especially if Volcarona invests its EVs in physical bulk Would reformulate this part to explain that Volcarona can run physical evs invest to defensively abuse Flame Body. However, its typing leaves it riddled with a nasty 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, as well as weaknesses to common attacking types, such as Water and Flying. Volcarona also can't fit all of the coverage it wants in one set, as it will lose to specific Pokemon depending on the coverage move. For instance, Volcarona loses to Heatran and Toxapex if it lacks Hidden Power Ground and Psychic, respectively. Additionally, its poor Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to revenge killing attempts from priority users, such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir. Giga Drain is Volcarona's strongest coverage option against Mega Diancie and Tapu Fini Keldeo/Gastrodon and extends its longevity. Finally, Volcarona can choose between Hidden Power Ground to pressure Heatran or Psychic to smash Toxapex and Kommo-o.

Set Details
========

The given Speed investment and a Timid nature ensure that Volcarona Speed ties against Pokemon like Mega Medicham and Mega Charizard Y. If Volcarona's teammates have these Pokemon accounted for, it can afford to run 216 Speed EVs to outrun Tapu Lele and Kyurem-B. Volcarona is flexible with its item of choice. Buginium Z lets Volcarona OHKO Mega Tyranitar with Savage Spin-Out without a boost after Stealth Rock. If Volcarona is knocked into low HP, it can use an Aguav Berry to regain lost HP in a pinch and ensure that Ash-Greninja doesn't pick off a boosted Volcarona with Water Shuriken. Leftovers is an option in a similar manner to slowly recover HP, making Volcarona harder to revenge kill. Psychium Z should be used if Volcarona carries Psychic so that Shattered Psyche guarantees an OHKO on Toxapex without a Payapa Berry. Lastly, Lum Berry lets Volcarona shrug off status attempts like Toxic from Toxapex and Thunder Wave from Clefable.
Do not forget to mention Firium Z (always with Fire Blast) and Life Orb (can mention the synergy between Giga Drain and LO).

Usage Tips
========

Offensive Volcarona fills the role of a wallbreaker and a late-game cleaner, and benefits from the removal of checks like Chansey before attempting to sweep. Depending on the matchup, decide if Volcarona should sweep or wallbreak for its teammates to finish the game, and act accordingly. If it is used early in the game, it can bust open holes to soften checks like Tapu Fini Ftr, most tapu fini tend to lose to volcarona if this one is already at +1. So, it's missleading to call it a check here for its teammates to clear out the pieces later in the game. Due to its poor Defense stat, Volcarona cannot safely switch into neutral physical attacks like Earthquake from Landorus-T. Therefore, the best methods of bringing Volcarona in safely are aggressive switches, pivot support from Volt Switch and U-turn, and after a teammate is KOed. Volcarona often finds setup opportunities against a multitude of Pokemon, ranging from Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, Choice-locked Pokemon like Kartana and Tapu Lele locked into Moonblast, and passive Pokemon like non-Thunder Wave Clefable. Volcarona despises entry hazards, so it is recommended to ensure that they are kept off the field at all times, as this will cut its sweep short. Volcarona must also be wary of Pokemon that can afflict it with status conditions, such as Toxic from Chansey Heatran and Toxapex, especially if it does not run Lum Berry to shrug it off. If Volcarona is too weak to attempt a sweep, do not hesitate to sacrifice it to punish contact moves like Frustration from Mega Lopunny, as the chance to burn thanks to Flame Body can make a difference between a win and a loss.

Team Options
========

This Volcarona variant is a natural fit for bulky offense, offense and hyper offense teams, which value its ability to clean weakened teams late-game and burn revenge killers with Flame Body. Strong wallbreakers like Mega Mawile, Mega Medicham Since we have a sentence about fighting-types partner, I rather put Kyurem-Black instead here, Mega Alakazam, and Tapu Lele are fantastic partners for Volcarona, busting through annoying checks like Chansey and, depending on Volcarona's choice of coverage, Toxapex and Heatran. Additionally, Tapu Lele summons Psychic Terrain, powering up Volcarona's Psychic and preventing priority users like Ash-Greninja and Mega Lopunny from attempting to pick Volcarona off. Multiple forms of preventing entry hazards are highly recommended; on hyper offense teams, Volcarona can be paired with a lead like Mega Diancie, Taunt Mew, Excadrill, and Imprison Landorus-T with a Defogger like Serperior, while bulkier offense teams use a Defogger like Tapu Fini or Rotom-W with offensive variants of Mega Diancie. Tapu Fini handles Ash-Greninja and provides support with Misty Terrain, protecting Volcarona from status conditions and granting it safer setup opportunities; Rotom-W checks Mega Swampert and provides Volcarona a safe entry with Volt Switch; and Serperior utilizes Taunt to shut down Chansey, making it easier to wear it down with repeated attacks and Rocky Helmet chip damage. Other Grass-types like Tapu Bulu and Kartana benefit from Volcarona removing Steel-types like Mega Scizor, Celesteela, and Skarmory. In return, they can pressure Tapu Fini and Mega Diancie, both of which Volcarona struggles against if it lacks Giga Drain. Additionally, Tapu Bulu extends Volcarona's longevity with Grassy Terrain and reduces the damage that Volcarona takes from Earthquake, while Kartana uses Knock Off to remove items like Leftovers from Clefable and Black Sludge from Toxapex. Protean and Ash-Greninja provide Spikes support, putting Pokemon like Toxapex within range for Volcarona to pick off with its boosted attacks. Protean Greninja is especially notable as it can bait in and eliminate Tapu Fini with Gunk Shot I would prefer something like baiting Chansey with Z-Low Kick or Toxapex with Z-dig. Dragon Dance sweepers like Gyarados, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X complement Volcarona very well, as they can overwhelm shared checks like Tapu Fini and Toxapex for the other to clean up later in the game. Fighting-type partners like Hawlucha I would here mention Mega Medicham instead and Kommo-o form a splendid partnership with Volcarona, as it greatly appreciates the removal of Chansey, while Kommo-o uses its typing to handle Ash-Greninja. In return, Volcarona handles bulky Psychic- and Fairy-types that give both Fighting-types major trouble, like Cresselia and Clefable. Kommonium Z variants of Kommo-o especially benefit from the removal of Fairy-types, as they can block Clangorus Soulblaze, preventing it from cleaning up late-game. Volcarona also enjoys partnering with Magearna, as Volcarona threatens Steel-types like Mega Scizor, Celesteela, and opposing Magearna. Cresselia grants crucial support with Lunar Dance to restore Volcarona back to full HP and remove any status ailments it has, allowing a second chance to sweep.

Other Options
=============

Flyinium Z with Hurricane is an option on rain teams to threaten opposing Volcarona and Kommo-o for super effective damage and still hit neutral targets like Toxapex, Clefable, Tornadus-T, and Tapu Fini for major damage. However, it is less consistent compared to other Z-Crystals like Buginium Z, Firium Z, and Psychium Z, as Volcarona is forced to give up a crucial coverage option like Psychic to run the move. Psychium Z variants have the option to drop their Fire-type STAB move and pair Psychic and Hidden Power Ground together to threaten both Toxapex and Heatran in one set. However, not having a Fire-type move allows Steel-types like Mega Scizor, Celesteela, and Skarmory to wall it more freely, forcing Volcarona to rely on its teammates to deal with them. Hidden Power Ice can be used over Hidden Power Ground to threaten the likes of Gliscor, Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Dragonite.
It's up to you, but you can mention:
-Fiery Dance for the random +1 in SpA but its lower BP make it a supbar option than Flamethrower
-Safeguard to punish checks using toxic as their way to handle Volcarona but you need to drop a moveslot for it
-on very specific stall, Defog Volcarona is possible

Checks and Counters
===================

**Entry hazards**: Volcarona despises all forms of entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, as they will reduce its setup opportunities later in the game.

Additionally, priority users, such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir, can come in and revenge kill a weakened Volcarona with Fake Out and Quick Attack; however, they must do so at their own risk due to the chance of being burned by Flame Body.

**Special Walls Chansey**: Toxapex is a solid answer to Volcarona sets lacking Psychic, can remove its stat boosts with Haze, and will put it on a timer with Toxic. Put that sentence in the water-type part Tapu Fini doesn't take much from Volcarona's STAB moves and can pressure it with Taunt + Nature's Madness in conjunction with Scald. However, it must beware of Giga Drain from offensive variants. Chansey also deserves a mention, as it will recover any damage taken with Soft-Boiled and place it on a timer with Toxic Stoss having fixed damage is also helpful here. However, it can be pressured and potentially outplayed by the Substitute + Swarm set.

**Water-types**: Would mention Toxapex, Pelipper, Keldeo, Base Gyarados and Manaphy. Would put Ash-Greninja and Crawdaunt here too.

**Rock-types and Rock-Types Coverage**: Mega Diancie resists both of Volcarona's STAB options and threatens it with an OHKO with Diamond Storm; however, Giga Drain can catch Mega Diancie by surprise. Volcarona must also watch out for Pokemon that can threaten it with Rock-type coverage moves, such as Stone Edge from Landorus-T and Tapu Bulu. It's up to you, but you can mention Mega Aerodactyl.

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Kommo-o, Dragonite, Mega Charizard X put zardx in the fire-type part, and the rare Mega Altaria don't take much from Volcarona's STAB options and force it out in return. The former three can nab free setup opportunities against it, while Mega Altaria can cripple it with Toxic or phaze it out with Roar. However, Kommo-o must be wary of variants that carry Psychic.

**Fire-types** : Mention Heatran, Zardx and Victini (bulky variant Victini tho). Zardy is also valid here.

With Substitute + Swarm, it can also potentially outplay and beat even Chansey after enough boosts. Lum Berry lets Volcarona shrug off status attempts like Toxic from Toxapex and Thunder Wave from Clefable. i think because lum doesnt really beat pex, something like slowbro, ferro, or gliscor may be better Leftovers is an option in a similar manner to slowly recover HP, making Volcarona harder to chip down revenge kill. Firium Z turns Fire Blast into a one-time nuke, and allows Volcarona Inferno Overdrive considering firium z allows inferno to exist as a whole, not an accurate wording to muscle past Chansey after prior chip damage. Psychium Z should be used if Volcarona carries Psychic so that Shattered Psyche guarantees an OHKO on Toxapex without a Payapa Berry. Lastly, Life Orb synergizes well with Giga Drain, to heal off any recoil damage and ensures a favorable chance to OHKO Clefable with +1 Fire Blast. could reorder the sentence a bit since giga drain synergy is less important than the overall power boost

Offensive Volcarona fills the role of a wallbreaker and a late-game cleaner, and benefits from the removal of checks like Chansey before attempting to sweep. Depending on the matchup, decide if Volcarona should sweep or wallbreak for its teammates to finish the game, and act accordingly. this isn't wrong but i have definitely read this exact sentence in one of your other analyses? If it is used early in the game, it can bust open holes to soften checks like Heatran for its teammates to clear out the pieces later in the game its unclear to me what this means. Due to its poor Defense stat, Volcarona cannot safely switch into neutral physical attacks like Earthquake from Landorus-T. Therefore, the best methods it's a setup sweeper, its just generally better to have it at full health before setting up, i think you dont need to specify about its poor defense of bringing Volcarona in safely are aggressive switches, pivot support from Volt Switch and U-turn, and after a teammate is KOed. Volcarona often finds setup opportunities against a multitude of Pokemon, ranging from Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Mega Scizor, Choice-locked Pokemon like Kartana and Tapu Lele, and passive Pokemon like non-Thunder Wave Clefable. magearna definitely needs to be here. its hard to include "non thunder wave clefable" here bc of the scouting needed. most games your best volc setup opportunity is gonna be vs a kartana or a magearna. Volcarona despises entry hazards, so it is recommended to ensure that they are kept off the field at all times, as this will cut its sweep short. it wouldnt cut its sweep short, it would stop the sweep from starting. "ensuring they are kept off the field" looks more like prioritising removal over maintaining your own hazards in practice, and this sentence could prob be higher up since its the main thing to worry about Volcarona must also be wary of Pokemon that can afflict it with status conditions, such as Toxic from Heatran and Toxapex, especially if it does not run Lum Berry to shrug it off. this isnt wrong but i still dont know about toxapex as a status example. it still beats lum most of the time and the sets that can beat toxa (psychium and subswarm) can either insta kill or evade status with sub.

Team Options

This Volcarona variant is a natural fit for offense, bulky offense, and hyper offense teams, which value its ability to clean weakened teams late-game. Multiple forms of preventing entry hazards are highly recommended; on hyper offense teams, Volcarona can be paired with a lead like Mega Diancie, Taunt Mew, Excadrill, and Imprison Landorus-T with a Defogger like Serperior, while bulkier offense teams use a Defogger like Tapu Fini or Rotom-W with offensive variants of Mega Diancie or a secondary Defogger like Choice Scarf Landorus-T. Protean and Ash-Greninja provide Spikes support, putting Pokemon like Toxapex within range for Volcarona to pick off with its boosted attacks. Protean Greninja is especially notable as it can bait in and eliminate Chansey with All-Out Pummeling and Toxapex with Tectonic Rage. protean gren is a great teammate but i wouldnt especially call volc a mon that benefits from spikes considering it generally likes to set up and go all in rather than switch around and chip its checks down. In return, Volcarona handles bulky Psychic- and Fairy-types that give both Fighting-types major trouble, like Cresselia and Clefable. Kommonium Z variants of Kommo-o especially benefit from the removal of Fairy-types, as they can block Clangorus Soulblaze, preventing it from cleaning up late-game. rewrite to about sharing checks like pex / fini Volcarona also enjoys partnering with Magearna, as Volcarona threatens Steel-types like Mega Scizor, Celesteela, and opposing Magearna wouldn't this be magearna enjoying partnering with volcarona. Cresselia grants crucial support with Lunar Dance to restore Volcarona back to full HP and remove any status ailments it has, allowing a second chance to sweep.

Other Options
=============

Fiery Dance is an alternative Fire-type option to have a random chance of raising Volcarona's Special Attack, but its lower Base Power makes it an inferior option compared to Flamethrower. However, without Hidden Power Ground, Volcarona is left at the mercy of Heatran. the main problem with it is that rona threatens the first three, but hp ice can get it more consistent OHKO. dragonite is becoming more relevant but it also doesnt die from full. i know this is meant to be a niche thing but its only really good for OHKOing the first three and chipped dnite, so i guess it can be listed for those. Bulky Volcarona can utilize Safeguard to protect itself from status attempts like Toxic from Chansey. However, it is forced to drop a crucial coverage move like Bug Buzz and Psychic, worsening its matchup against Pokemon like Mega Tyranitar and Kommo-o. On specific stall teams, Volcarona can use Defog to remove entry hazards, but this reduces its effectiveness as a sweeper, and its abysmal Stealth Rock weakness leaves it outclassed as a Defogger by Gliscor.

===================

**Entry hazards**: Volcarona despises all forms of entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes, as they will reduce its setup opportunities later in the game.

Additionally, priority users, such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir, Ash-Greninja, and Crawdaunt, can come in and revenge kill a weakened Volcarona with Fake Out and Quick Attack; however, they must do so at their own risk due to the chance of being burned by Flame Body, except in the case of Ash-Greninja which can struggle to find a KO if Volcarona stacks enough boosts.

**Special Walls**: Chansey doesn't take much from Volcarona's attacks thanks to its massive special bulk, recovers any damage taken with Soft-Boiled, wears Volcarona down with Seismic Toss, and places it on a timer with Toxic. However, Chansey can be pressured and potentially outplayed by the Substitute + Swarm set. might be a stretch but you could maybe include unaware cm clef

However, the latter must be wary of sets that pack Giga Drain and Psychic. tbh, psychium z can hit them all pretty well, idt its just keldeo Manaphy is bulky enough to survive +1 Bug Buzz and retaliate with Hydro Vortex. Lastly, Ash-Greninja and Crawdaunt pick off a weakened Volcarona with their priority moves. we moved these. can add gastrodon here potentially

**Rock-types and Rock-type Coverage**: Mega Diancie and the rare Mega Aerodactyl resist both of Volcarona's STAB options and threaten it with an OHKO with Diamond Storm and Stone Edge, respectively; however, Giga Drain can catch Mega Diancie by surprise. yes this is true but i cant really see mega aero as analysis mention worthy in most cases. i think mega tyranitar could be worked into this over aero with some other changes to make that fit Volcarona must also watch out for Pokemon that can threaten it with Rock-type coverage moves, such as Stone Edge from Landorus-T and Tapu Bulu.

**Dragon-types**: Dragon-types like Kommo-o, Dragonite, and the rare Mega Altaria don't take much from Volcarona's STAB options and force it out in return. The former two can nab free setup opportunities against it, while Mega Altaria can cripple it with Toxic or phaze it out with Roar. However, Kommo-o must be wary of variants that carry Psychic.

**Fire-types**: Both Mega Charizard formes resist both of Volcarona's STAB moves and fire back with heavy damage. Additionally, Heatran is immune to Volcarona's Fire-type STAB option thanks to Flash Fire and pressures it with Taunt and puts it on a timer with Toxic; however, Heatran must watch out for Hidden Power Ground. Victini deserves a mention because it is bulky enough to survive +1 Bug Buzz and threaten it back with V-create.

Its Speed stat enables it to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame and Choice Scarf Landorus-T (RC) after a Quiver Dance. However, its typing leaves it riddled with a nasty 4x weakness to Stealth Rock (RC) and weaknesses to common attacking types, such as Water and Flying. Additionally, its poor Defense stat leaves it vulnerable to revenge killing attempts from priority users, such as Mega Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir, and it is outpaced by faster Pokemon, such as Choice Scarf Greninja, Hawlucha after activating Unburden, and weather sweepers like Sand Rush Excadrill and Mega Swampert under the their weather, even after a Quiver Dance boost. As a result, it requires plenty of support, especially the removal of entry hazards, to truly flourish.

Moves
=========

Set Details
========

If Volcarona is knocked into low HP, it can use an Aguav Berry to regain lost HP in a pinch and ensure that Greninja doesn't pick it off a boosted Volcarona with Water Shuriken with Water Shuriken when it's boosted. Lum Berry lets Volcarona shrug off status attempts like Toxic from Gliscor and Heatran and Thunder Wave from Slowbro and Ferrothorn. Leftovers is an option in a similar manner (similar manner to what?) to slowly recover HP, making Volcarona harder to chip down. Psychium Z should be used if Volcarona carries Psychic so that Shattered Psyche guarantees an OHKO on Toxapex. Firium Z turns Fire Blast into a one-time nuke (RC) and allows Volcarona to muscle past Chansey after prior chip damage. Lastly, Life Orb ensures a favorable chance to OHKO Clefable with +1 Fire Blast, and it synergizes well with Giga Drain to negate the recoil damage that Volcarona takes.

Usage Tips
========

Volcarona often finds setup opportunities against a multitude of Pokemon, ranging from Grass- and Steel-types like Ferrothorn, Magearna, and Mega Scizor (RC) and Choice-locked Pokemon like Kartana and Tapu Lele. Volcarona must also be wary of Pokemon that can afflict it with status conditions, such as Toxic from Heatran, especially if it does not run Lum Berry to shrug it them off.

Greninja is also a great partner for Volcarona, as Ash-Greninja overwhelms shared checks like Toxapex and benefits from Volcarona removing Grass-types like Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu. Protean Greninja is also notable, (AC) as Fightinium Z variants can bait in and eliminate Chansey with All-Out Pummeling, and Groundium Z variants eliminate Toxapex with Tectonic Rage. **Water-types**: Toxapex is a solid answer to Volcarona sets lacking Psychic, can remove its stat boosts with Haze, and will put it on a timer with Toxic.
