[OU] Onion Knight [RMT]

Here is a team I started working and testing in Smogon. It has evolved into this current team but I still lack some polish.

My current lead

251.png

Celebi @ Choice Scarf
Hasty
252hp/128s.def/128spe
Stealth Rock
Trick
U-Turn
Leaf Storm

Celebi comes in and cripples almost every lead with Trick-Scarf, in this fashion Celebi works like Azelf by Tricking then Stealth Rocking on the switch out. This also works by tricking Focus Sash leads into coughing up their Focus Sash.

Natural Cure in addition to Trick/Stealth Rock makes Celebi the best Sleep counter in my opinion (Smeargle/Breloom/Roserade) by being able to repeatedly absorb sleeps. Many never expect to see Celebi or expect it to walk into Spores, Will-O-Wisps or Thunder Waves then U-Turning out afterwards. In this manner Celebi is great vs. Blissey sporting Flamethrower + Status as she can easily block badjoo-joo from hitting Salamence

Suicune @ Leftovers
Bold
4s.atk/252hp/252def
Rest
Sleep Talk
Surf
Calm Mind

I don't have to explain Suicune, he's amazing and with his defense, there is barely anything he can't set up on, or PP starve. He RestTalks and absorbs Thunderwaves/Sleep like a champ. While taken for granted, the real effectiveness of Suicune is not seen untill he comes into play, as his amazing defenses allow him to survive even SE grass attacks. While Suicune is walled by Vaporeon, that weakness is handled by his partner Rotom-H. Otherwise it is very possible to sweep with Suicune in the late game once his counters are removed.

499.png

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Calm
252hp/90s.atk/168s.def
Overheat
Will-O-Wisp
Pain Split
Discharge

The new HGSS Painsplit for Rotom is amazing on a defensive Rotom, combined with Crocune these are two mixed walls that can also cause heavy damage to my opponent's team. Thunderbolt deals with Zapdos and Bulky Waters while Overheat deals with Scizor who gets dealt with rather easily once hit by Will-O-Wisp

Edit: Thunderbolt was replaced with Discharge to aid in spreading status out on things unaffected by the Atk Penalty of Burn.

453.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Adamant
252atk/4def/252spe
Swords Dance
Extreme Speed
Close Combat
Crunch

Lucario is great early game when you have to Revenge kill, or to bring it in on something to Swords Dance during a switch out. Once switched in safely, he hits anything not Ghost/Steel very hard with +2 Sword Dances. Though Lucario is often too slow to handle things such as Gengar, I question the need to have Crunch as it's rarely used compared to Close Combat or Extreme Speed.

373.png

Salamence @ Life Orb
Naive
16atk/240s.atk/252spd
Dragon Dance
Outrage
Earthquake
Fire Blast

Salamence is a DD MixMence here he hits like a DD Mence on the physical side, then when he gets walled, he hits just as hard with Draco Meteors when my opponent tries to grab his counter. This makes my DD MixMence hard to counter as he easily only needs one turn to set up to sweep a team and usually falls to Bullet Punches once Life Orb/SR has dealt him enough damage.

212.png

Scizor @ Iron Plate
Adamant
248hp/252atk/8spe
Bullet Punch
Pursuit
U-Turn
Superpower

Scizor is my epitome of a revenge killer, he holds a Iron Plate to hit like a CB - Scizor and then U-Turn away or counter switch outs with a Pursuit. Of all my pokemon, Scizor shares many weaknesses with Lucario and so together they are somewhat hindered and vulnerable to Heatran counters. Suicune exists as my teams biggest check to Heatran.

Many teams possess a Steel type to resist a Dragon sweep. Thus my own Steel types exist to pull the roadblocks out of Salamence's way.

The team is not perfect and I always want to try and improve it. Perhaps Thunder Wave support with Rotom to allow Lucario a better field for sweeping teams.

Please give me suggestions!

Good job! Your added Rotom-H which means your team isn't entirely ripped through by MixVire! I applaud you even if it wasn't your intention!

I still see MixVire causing a slight problem, due to prediction. if you've shown Rotom-H beforehand, and Electivire is sent in on, say, Scizor, you'll want Rotom-A to take over (unless you want Scizor OHKO'd by Flamethrower. It's viable, as in, if he's low on health, you can take advantage of it by revenge "killing" without taking a hit on the switch), but you'll (woops, lol, filled in already) take damage on the switch. From Ice Punch/HP Ice or Flamethrower, it's little hurting. Since he's most likely faster than you, another hit will hurt. Will-O-Wisp wouldn't help, since he's firing Flamethrowers (which have a small chance at 2HKOing if I remember the calculations I did 2 months ago) at you or HP Ice's. That's the main problem: prediction. If the opponent predicts correctly and kills Rotom-A, most of your team is gone unless Celebi can trick Choice Scarf if for some reason he hasn't already. But, still, I have faith you can play well and have enough experience to not fall so easily to such things.

Regarding your thought of Twave support, I believe it's overall better to use Discharge over Thunderbolt, if that's your aim. A loss of moveslot isn't appealing to me, reather replacing is mroe appealing. That's me, not you. Discharge is an option if you like taking chances over being secure with a price. Twave wouldn't be a super great help, but if you'd like to keep defenses up, Reflect can help Lucario set up on, say, Tyranitar (physical, or boahs without Flamethrower), or Scizor and your sweep is ready with at least 2 SDs, which makes Bronzong fear Crunches and Skarmory fear Close Combats. Just suggesting other support options, as Twave/speed isn't a big problem IMO.

Overall, good start, you're getting there and you're so far looking like a solid team. Just a little more thought on support and how-to do this and that to make this and that successful would make it perfect. Though, try not to replace pokemon or completely change movesets because of this unless it's absolutely necessary (like, a massive outburst in the popularity of MixVires and Tyraniboahs, which I HIGHLY doubt (as no one even considers Electivire a threat anymore, which is why I'm so defendan of him :P)).

Good job, I like your synergies and Celebi lead especially. Again, work on supports and how-to set ups, and you're good to go with the top-notch players anytime.

Nice team but i have 1 suggestion. Put Fire Blast over Draco Meteor as you can do absoultely nothing to Skarmory and Levitate Bronzong. And could be giving them a free layer of spikes/stealth rock. I use to run a Mence with the same set as you did but i got recommended to put Fire blast over Draco Meteor and its much better. You should give it a try. Hope that helps.

Just a quick rate
Watch out for pokes like specs jolt and offensive zapdos as they can severly hurt this team. For this reason a scarfer like flygon/latias or perhaps a swampert can help remady this problem, also flygon, latias and swampert can all help against heatran

The thing I don't like about Iron Plate scizor on a 4 attack moveset is that your u-turn doesn't have that much power. That should be your main form of attack instead of bullet punch. Scizor is the kind of pokemon that really doesn't need to change attacks very often, so IMO you're losing a lot by giving scizor iron plate over choice band

Definetely change your MixMence EV Spread to 252 Speed / 240 SpA / 16 Atk and Naive to tie with base 100s, this is very important.

On your Scizor I suggest just changing Iron Plate to Choice Band, the extra power really does come in handy, most teams have some trouble switching into a CB U-turn and many of the common switch-ins (Gyarados, Salamence) are weak to SR so they're still taking a good amount of damage that turn.

As for your Celebi lead, to be honest I've tried that lead out before and it has big problems getting SR up. Usually the opponent just goes straight to Scizor or a fire type like Heatran who doesn't mind getting a Scarf, then you're forced to switch out and after that it's hard to come in and lay down rocks without getting pursuited or threatened with a U-turn. If you wanna use a Trick lead then try Azelf instead, Naive natured with 252 Speed / 252 Atk / 6 HP, Trick / U-turn / Stealth rock / Explosion.

Next, you're pretty Gyara weak after it gets a DD. Suicune doesn't threaten it with anything and it can just keep DDing up and OHKO your whole team. I say make Rotom-H Scarf with Trick, the standard set (check analysis if you don't know what it is). Having two trickers will also help you set up with Lucario and Suicune.

I've had numerous attempted set ups with stuff like Gyrados, usually I sacrifice a weak party member on a switch in to auto-kill with Bullet Punch+SR it. I will test Choice Band Scizor vs. Iron Plate as well.

Also, saying Celebi cant set up rocks is like saying Azelf can't set up rocks. If I need SR up, There is no lead that can stop it unless Azelf decided to first turn Explosion on Celebi. In Celebi vs. Azelf the only thing that should be done is for both to SR then switch out, anything else wastes time and allows free switch ins for stuff like Salamence.

So if I wanted Rocks up, there isn't a lead out there to stop Celebi from getting rocks up. Ontop of that it beats common sleep leads rather easily. Which Azelf has to switch out on.

If you are facing someone who does switch out to their Heatran/Scizor first turn instead of getting their own rocks up. I feel bad for them as they just easily let my team set up on them unhindered.

After a quick scan through your team, I have to ask why you run Outrage and Draco Meteor on Salamence. Surely you need Fire Blast/Flamethrower to counter steel types? Once your opponment notices you have no Fire Blast, they can just send in a Skarm and make your eyes bleed.

Fire Blast was already mentioned prior to your post.

Also Rotom beats Skarmory around, while I need to playtest Fire Blast, I already check Skarmory rather hard with Rotom. Salamence really only needs one turn to set up, and so I do not overextend myself midsweep, and can easily switch out to Rotom.

I've made several changes to the team such as fixing DD MixMence and adding Discharge to Rotom.

The idea is that everything Rotom would Discharge he would want to Paralyze rather then Wisp, whereas Wisp is great on walls and phys attackers, while Discharge nukes stuff like Latias, letting Lucario set up against it.
