[OU] Rate my WiFi Team, but also used on Shoddy :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction:
Hey all. I'm AdamV2, otherwise known as cocadrummer over Shoddy. I'm a relatively new poster to the forums (although I am quite the lurk ;)) but I have some knowledge about the game that I have gained through my years of playing. This year, I realized that the countless teams I spent time on a raised from little Eggs were all worthless because of one thing: EVS! I had spent hours training my Pokemon not realizing that I should be choosing what Pokemon I fight in order to raise the stats that I want. Now, I grown to understand that concept along with the other concept of breeding, IVs, and Natures.

This past month, my friend asked me if I had ever heard of Shoddy Battle. I said yes, but that I had never really used it extensively. I hadn't played Pokemon for months at this time, but he invited me for a match, and it is a fairly close game and I come out the victor running a team of Weavile, Dragonite, Milotic, Gliscor, Heatran, and Electivire. My friend was impressed, and asked me if I had a WiFi team. I didn't, but he happened to have a EV'd team with perfect natures and solid IVs. He wasn't the biggest fan of Shoddy and neither am I as I prefer the satisfaction of using Pokemon you work hard to obtain or raise, so I made it my goal to build a good team, test it, then finally once I am pleased with the outcome breed, EV, and raise my selected Pokemon. So far I have built what I consider a good team and done some testing, now I want to see if I have actually done a good job before raising these Pokemon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Strategy:
The whole point of this team is to last until the late game by eliminating threats that could harm my sweepers until I pull off a late game sweep, or just wear out the opponent by good prediction and some cool ways to screw over the opponent. A main strategy I like to use is just shutting down my opponents Walls with Trick from Rotom-H or SubSeeding them with Sceptile. I shut down the biggest threats for my team and lead into a late game sweep from Lucario, Salamence, or even Sceptile or Rotom-H. The Pokemon on my team work well together to cover each others weaknesses, thus taking out the counters for each other.

The main strategy I use is; clear the path for a swift sweep.

*Take Note: I play WiFi and have a hard time getting the correct IVs for Hidden Power, so I'd rather not have to use it... :)*

Salamence
salamence.png

Item: Yache Berry / Leftovers / Life Orb / Lum Berry
Nature: Adamant
Abilities: Intimidate
EVs: HP: 120|ATK: 254|SPD: 136

Move List:
  1. Dragon Dance
  2. Dragon Claw
  3. Earthquake
  4. Stone Edge
Super Effective Against: Dragon, Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, Steel, Bug, Flying, Ice
Weaknesses: Ice, Rock, Dragon
Resistances: Fire, Water, Grass, Fighting, Bug
Immunities: Ground

Notes: Solid lead, can help against many leads that may threaten the rest of my team's well-being. Hits Aerodactyl leads hard with Stone Edge when they Taunt, but can get owned if they also decide to Stone Edge. Azelf isn't really a problem as this thing has actually survived an Azelf Explosion before and other than that has just been able to 2HKO as most Taunt on the first turn, giving me a free attack. Most Taunting leads will Taunt my 'Mence straight away expecting the Dragon Dance, so I've grown to always swing first. My 'Mence can also take down Gyarados leads, as even if they pack Ice Fang I will be fine.

One thing I need help with is the Item. I like the extra damage from Life Orb, but the recoil is a little much. Lum Berry is just in case I get T-Waved, Hypnosis'd, or Burnt which has happened a lot before and I hate it as my 'Mence essentially becomes useless. Lefties and Yache are just survivability options.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Snorlax
snorlax.png

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Careful / Sassy
Abilities: Thick Fat
EVs: HP: 244|DEF: 30|SP.DEF: 236

Move List:
  1. Rest
  2. Sleep Talk
  3. Earthquake
  4. Body Slam
Super Effective Against: Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock, Steel
Weaknesses: Fighting
Resistances: Fire, Ice
Immunities: Ghost

Notes: Restalk 'Lax, fairly basic and a pretty good tank. Body Slam just for paralysis support, and EQ is mostly for Steels thinking they can wall me (Heatran, Metagross, Jirachi). Sadly, most Steels have the luxury of being part Flying or having Levitate, thus getting around my Ground attack (Skarm, Bronzong) so I'm kinda leaning towards Fire Blast instead of Earthquake. This would result in me being able to be raped by Heatran though, and Heatran is perhaps the biggest threat in the standard metagame right now...

I was also considering running a Curse version without Rest, and running EQ - Return - Crunch or EQ - Return - Fire Blast/Fire Punch. Thoughts? It might not be as tank-ish as my Restalker is now though...

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Vaporeon
vaporeon.png

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Abilities: Water Absorb
EVs: HP: 252|DEF: 230|SPD: 28

Move List:
  1. Wish
  2. Protect
  3. Surf
  4. Ice Beam / Hidden Power [Electric]
Super Effective Against: Fire, Ground, Rock, Grass, Flying, Dragon
Weaknesses: Electric, Grass
Resistances: Fire, Ice, Steel
Immunities: Water

Notes: My favourite! Vaporeon is a fairly good supporter wall with a 130/65/95 defensive base stat spread, and being able to give Wish support to my teammates as well as having an alright recovery method is pretty rad too. But, this is basic knowledge. Hopefully you know what Vaporeon's role in any team is: Wish support. With no Rapid Spin support Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Sandstorm damage can pile up so this guy can help support my sweeps with some good ol' recovery. Thankfully Vaporeon can also take some hits itself, so it doesn't have to heal that often. Or it can just come in on a Water move for some quick recovery.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Sceptile
sceptile.png

Item: Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Abilities: Overgrow
EVs: HP: 56|DEF: 200|SPD: 254

Move List:
  1. Substitute
  2. Leech Seed
  3. Grass Knot
  4. Dragon Pulse / Hidden Power [Fire]
Super Effective Against: Ground, Rock, Water, Dragon
Weaknesses: Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug
Resistances: Water, Electric, Grass, Ground
Immunities: None

Notes: Basic SubSeeder pretty much taken directly from Smogon. I just love Sceptile and I have faced many of these that have just screwed me over so many times. It also works well with Vaporeon by covering Vaporeon's only two weaknesses, and Vaporeon covering Sceptile's two bigger weaknesses (Fire and Ice). Super fast helps too for revenge killing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Rotom (H)
rotomheat.png

Item: Choice Scarf
Nature: Modest
Abilities: Levitate
EVs: HP: 6|SP.ATK: 252|SPD: 252

Move List:
  1. Trick
  2. Will-O-Wisp / Overheat
  3. Thunderbolt
  4. Shadow Ball
Super Effective Against: Ghost, Psychic, Flying, Water (Bug, Grass, Ice, Steel)
Weaknesses: Ghost, Dark
Resistances: Electric, Poison, Flying, Bug, Steel
Immunities: Ground, Normal, Fighting

Notes: Awesome! Sadly, since I don't have Platinum or access to an English version until 'early 2009' I have been using regular Rotom (just no Overheat, and less cool), but I've been using it online with Overheat. Just over WiFi I use regular Rotom with Will-O-Wisp. This really messes with my opponent's, as I can revenge kill when they don't expect it (Gyarados with DD is a huge one for this team). Later, it will rape most walls/tanks with Trick thus clearing the path for my other Pokemon. Just a good little Pokemon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucario
lucario.png

Item: Life Orb / Expert Belt
Nature: Adamant
Abilities: Inner Focus
EVs: HP: 6|ATK: 252|SPD: 252

Move List:
  1. Swords Dance
  2. Close Combat
  3. Crunch
  4. Extremespeed
Super Effective Against: Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, Steel, Dragon, Ghost, Psychic
Weaknesses: Fire, Fighting, Ground
Resistances: Normal, Grass, Ice, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel
Immunities: Poison

Notes: Calling Lucario 'powerful' is an understatement. As many of you know, a Swords Dance from this guy can spell game. After an SD, the only things that can really stop it is anything that can outspeed it and has a resistance/immunity to Normal, or Gyarados, Gliscor, and Hippowdon. But, I always try to get rid of any major threats to Lucario's sweeping ability before I try to set-up. A great late game sweeper and revenge killer for sure.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion:
Alright, so that's it. Any comments are greatly appreciated, even if it's critizism! I hope to get some replies, so if you even just view this, leave a comment :)

i suggest you give vaporeon a few spA ev's, or you could replace somethink with toxic to ruin walls

snorlax : give it this set curse , rest, crunch, body slam ( and a chesto berry )
after a curse or two you dont need to worry about the two turns needed to wake up after rest

I'd probably stick with Life Orb on Lucario. Without Life Orb you'd be losing a lot of OHKOs on stuff like Vaporeon and Bronzong who you'll only hit for neutral damage. Also, ExtremeSpeed cannot hit anything for super effective damage, and will suffer immensely from the loss of power. Expert Belt is pretty much only useful if you still would like to hit Celebi and Cresselia for super effective damage, without the nasty recoil from Life Orb, but the Life Orb recoil is generally worth it, and I believe this team is no exception.

I also noticed your trouble with Gengar. Whilst Snorlax sponges most hits fairly well, it cannot touch Gengar at all. That goes for the Rotoms too, really. Here's a crazy idea - Pursuit over Earthquake. Yeah.
You'll surely lose some coverage against Metagross and Tyranitar, who you by the way shouldn't stay in on anyway, but you'll kill off both Rotom and Gengar as they're forced to switch, and that's gonna promote Lucario immensely as all faster Ghost types falls to Snorlax.

With HP Fire, Sceptile is forced to use 30 Speed IVs. You might as well lower its Speed to outrun base 115 Pokémon, and put the remaining EVs in one of your defensive stats so your remaining EVs atleast gets some use.

Salamence:
Why are you even trying to use a sweeper as a lead, it normally does work unless is soemthing sashed like weavile or infernape, try to get something better, maybe a poke to set Stealth Rock like Donpahn or Skarm.
Snorlax:
Its ok, something to absorb the status then rest them away. I woudl go with fire blast, anyways vaporeon counters Heatran by far, it can take the fire blasts or flamethrower and then counter/recover with surf/wish.
Also maybe change Body Slam for facade, facade doubles power because snorlax is asleep becoming a powerful attack.
Vaporeon:
One of my favorite pokemons, counters two of the biggest threats: Gyarados and Heatran. And special infernapes and mences.
Sceptile:
Um ditch the last attack for either Protect (to annoy alittle more with the seeds and recover) or with Hidden Power Ice which hits both Dragons and your main counters: Grass Types who are inmmune to leech seed.
Rotom-H:
I dont know mucha bout this guy but I would go with Overheat for alot more of type coverage, he can get rid of those steel types that snorlax has problems with.
Lucario:
Swords Dance Luce, basic, well not any change at all with this guy....just beware of a tricking gengar who can trick you to using crunch.

Its an ok team, I find some threats for it like Hail and Sandstorm Teams, electivire if it happens to get a Motor Drive boost may become a problem since none of your pokemon (baring snorlax who will die from cross-chop) carry a Ground Move. I would recommend having a Lead Zong.

First off, Facade doesn't double in power when you are asleep.

I think Energy Ball would work better on Sceptile, so Vaporeon doesn't trouble Lucario's sweep as much. May come back later for a full rate.

Snorlax suggestions...

Eh, I was actually thinking of removing Snorlax altogether and now that I have gotten a few comments about it, I think I should... Perhaps something that can take some more hits than him, and lay down Stealth Rocks, something that I know the team could really use.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking about it so I know that I can get in a kill against Heatran. Does anyone know if I need any Sp.Atk EVs in order to get a OHKO on Heatran and how much they may be (if any)?

Thanks for the well-written and informative help! I was thinking Life Orb for greater power and was just waiting for someone to give me the signal to go for it.

Is there a Pokemon that can counter Gengar and Rotom and also lay down some Stealth Rocks whilst taking hits? I could just replace Snorlax with it as I am kinda not feeling the 'Lax vibe at the moment. And I think I'll make my Sceptile more defensive and go for HP Fire. Perhaps 232 Spd EVs so I can outspeed a Pokemon with 244 Spd that has a +1 (366 total speed) boost, or if that isn't that common perhaps 220 Spd Evs to give me 363 Spd to outspeed all base 115 Pokemon? I can just dump the rest in HP I think..

I am using Salamence to own stuff like Aero and Azelf that will usually Taunt me turn one. It's not so much a sweeper as it is an anti-lead, per-se. I was kinda thinking Fire Blast > Stone Edge though, so I can deal with Bronzong leads, etc. The DD is on the set so I have something to do straight away. But, I agree that I could/should get a better lead, but I would like to keep 'Mence on the team... And perhaps if I do use Outrage > Dragon Claw (as I just found out Outrage is a tutor move in Platinum!)

I haven't really had a problem with Electivire, as it kinda sucks and the Motor Drive isn't that big of a deal as I don't pull out my Electric moves until later in the game (especially with a Gyarados on the team). Electivire kinda sucks, but with a Motor Drive up it can be a bigger threat.

While this is true, it gives me less to do against Milotic and Suicune (who will just laugh at my Energy Balls and CM up). And from what I've faced, Suicune is a huge threat to the team unless I Trick a Choice Scarf onto it. If I don't it can just CM up and sweep.

Thanks for the rates, suggestions, comments, etc. Keep 'em coming! I need a few more suggestions about 'Lax and a replacement if I decide to remove it :)
