DUAL DRAGONS

Hi Everyone!
I am really new to the Gen 5 OU since I have not been playing pokemon for almost 2 years. I am familiar with Gen 4 OU and UU and do have some battling experience on Shoddy (but now Pokemon Online)

I am a 1204 points player with 6 matches ( not the best ) but I do want my team to be the BEST that it can be.

Thanks for helping and feel free to give comments and suggestions!

CHANGES ARE IN RED :D

images

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SDef / 8 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Protect
- Roar/ maybe Dragon Pulse?

Heatran's job here is to set up stealth rocks and provide with a phasing ability.
He is specially defensive which makes him great to switch into a thunderbolt aimed at skarmory.
Also, he covers skarmory's fire weakness and covers the dragon's ghost/dark weaknesses.
He also proves to be potent against the really annoying and almost Uber wall that is Ferrothorn.

However I am still considering switching roar with dragon pulse just because, I can switch into thunderbolts from dragons but never retaliate back :O

skarmory.png

Skarmory (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Brave Bird

Skarmory's job is to defend agains powerful physical sweepers such as scizor and glisgor.
He also aims to damage the opposing team with spikes and whirlwind and to also phase out pokemon setting up.
He is my answer to a Physical sweeper and he is the solid most important pokemon in my team.

He is able to stop the Dancing Dragons from setting up and really control the game in my favour with whirlwind and his magnificent defence.

images

Jellicent (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 248 Def
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover

Jellicent is here to...

1. Rapid Spin Block
2. Absorb Water attacks aimed at Heatran
3. Prevent Sweepers from setting up
4. Cripple the opposing team with Burn
5. Show off his kick ass MUSTACHE!

images

Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- Stone Edge

This guy poses some use in my team. He gets rid of the Gengar threat and other ghosty psychic types.
Plus, I love how the way he summons up a Sandstorm which helps me against Rain teams and killing off their steel types.

However this Choice Scarf variant is really easy for a dragon such as dragonite to switch into and set up because when I attack with Superpower or Crunch, they can just switch in as it is not very effective against them and Dragon Dance up.

Any thoughts of any ideas on how to stop this dragon setup problem?

381Latios.png

Latios (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power Fire
- Psychic
- Surf

Latios here is to provide a good standard sweep with his huge movepool.
Expert belt here instead of lifeorb because I aim to abuse his movepool to score super effective hits.
He is also capable of OHKOing non scarf gengar.

latias.gif

Latias (F) @ Lum berry
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 220 HP / 36 SAtk / 252 Spd
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Latias here is my special calm mind sweeper.
She really can take alot of damage and deal lots of damage too.
Once she gets a few calm minds up, she sweeps like a broom.
Hidden power fire here is preferred cause scizor loves to switch into latias and also its my only fire move in my team.

The basic idea behind this team is to plant lots of spikes and stealth rocks to cripple the enemy team.

Crippling the opponents team will help with the Latios, Latias and Kingdra set up sweeps.

I intend to use each pokemon to switch into each others weakness and counter from there.

..............................................................

Threat List:

Gengar

He poses a real threat to me as Shadow ball and thunderbolt wreck my entire team clean.

Volcarina

This dancing moth sweeps my entire team with just one dance. I cant believe I do not meet this guy often, he is truly a remarkable threat in Gen 5

Sableye

I have problems with him because of his annoying prankster ability.
Also the paralyze status condition really cripples latias leaving her almost worthless.

Tyranitar

This guy is dealt with by Infernape's close combat. However he can still kill of 80% of my team effectively with Fireblast on skarmory, Crunches and Pursuits for Lati@s and deoxys.

....................................................................

Former Team Members:

389.png

Deoxys-S @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Light Screen
- Thunder Wave

His purpose to the team is to paralyze the lead, taunt to prevent any SR going up from the opponent and set up my own SR.
Light Screen is used just before i switch to latias to start calm mind sweeping.
He also pops in to inflict paralyze to pokemon who may become a threat.

images

Kingdra (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Outrage

FInally the star of my team.
He has won many games for me which I should not have won.
Once Kingdra gets 2 DDances up, he is almost unstoppable.
He eliminates most of the Gen 5 sweepers convincingly
only to be walled by Jellicent as he needs a good 2HKO to break the jelly.

InfernapeC.jpg

Infernape (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 32 SAtk / 224 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Overheat

Infernape is my scout with U-turn.
He also is my physical sweeper and wall breaker.
Killing things such as Gyarados, GLisgor, Tyranitar.
However if he mises his stone edge, its unfortunate.
He takes in the will-o-wisps and counters back with a powerful close combat or overheat.

Alright well two things:1) you're gunna wanna add more substance, explain what each mon provides to the team, how they accomplish that, how they contribute to the goal of the team, and the reasoning for their move sets etc.

2) Running two dragons=great idea. Running both Lati@s twins= dumb idea.

You said your plan for the team is to "force switches with entry support" (paraphrasing) and using both twins completely counter acts that, since you now have two exact same mons with the exact same weaknesses. Maybe concider using Coballion over one, since it's typing is an awesome compliment to lati@s' and is beefier than Lucario.

When you expand on eerything I can give you full advice/ full rate.

Though I can let you know, from my experience I'e found grass knot more useful than stone edge on infernape. BEsides just accuracy, it gives you an answer to quagsire/gastrodon, and most of your bulky fliers (salamence/gyarados/etc) that you're carrying stone edge for have intimidate anyways. While yeah, you have an 80% shot at OHKOing through rocks, it makes more sense to switch to an appropriate counter kill that way.

Liking the team, I'm using a latios/kindra/salamence combo at the moment. :)

It's hard to rate at the moment because you don't have enough detail for each pokemon and what their job is, but here goes.

You look weak to scarf terrakion. Once Skarmory is out of the picture, he can clean up the rest of you're pokemon with the correct move. (X scissor for the lati twins, close combat for everything else.) For this I recommend using a choice banded scizor over infernape.. Scizor adds some priority to you're team, which is needed against pokemon like dragonite and haxorus. And, his weaknesses are covered well by the rest of the team.

Good luck

thanks H3ck,

Terrakion does not pose a threat to me at the moment as he is easily dealt with by my dragons and infernape. However I have yet to meet a scarf terrakion.

I agree with your point on Scizor and that his weaknesses are covered by the dragons, however I really need infernape for that wall breaker effect and an Overheat to fend off any of the opponents grass or steel types which wall my team well.

Especially celebi, bronzong and Tyranitar

First of all, I love the idea of using both Latias and Latios on the same team. I've seen a couple of people utilizing the same strategy and have to say that it's quite a dangerous one. Anyways, the first problem that I see when looking at your team is Deoxys-S. It seems very out of place here. You aren't using it in a way that takes full advantage of what it's meant to do. Sweep, activate dual screens, or set-up layers upon layers of entry hazards. My suggestion is that you replace it with a Pokemon that will really help your team, Specially Defensive Heatran. It's typing and bulk makes it a great way of dealing with Sun teams and their deadliest sweepers, Volcarona and Venusaur. Both of whom can be troublesome if they manage to grab even one turn of set-up. Heatran can wall both of them and use the combination of SR, Spikes, and Roar to ensure they won't be bothering you again.

Your team lacks a spinblocker which really sucks since you need entry hazards to help Latios and Latias pull off successful sweeps. My suggestion to fix this is to use Jellicent in place of Kingdra. Now, I understand how much you love Kingdra but hear me out. I don't feel that having three sweepers, while good, is absolutely necessary for this team to succeed. You already have entry hazards working against your opponent and twin sweepers to finish them off. Furthermore, just take a look at how Jellicent can help your team. First off, it can block Rapid Spin which is the most important thing and it has many other beneficial attributes outside of that. It can wall a large majority of the members on Rain teams to hell and back now that Thundurus is gone which gives you a solid way of dealing with all three common forms of weather. Heatran for Sun, Skarmory for Sandstorm, and Jellicent for Rain. It can also help to deconstruct stall teams using the combination of entry hazards, Will-O-Wisp, and Taunt. Having a sick mustache doesn't hurt either.

Next, I want to discuss a way to help patch up your weakness against Gengar and opposing Latios. Both of whom can decimate your team since nothing you have can safely switch into either one of them. A good way to remedy your problem with both of these Pokemon is to use Scarf Tyranitar in place of Infernape. It can switch-in against everything that Latios carries along with anything outside of Focus Blast from Gengar and proceed to kill both of them with eitehr Crunch or Pursuit. Another great thing about Tyranitar is that it can also butcher Starmie who is one of the only popular spinners that can get past Jellicent by 2HKOing it with T-Bolt. You also mentioned that opposing T-Tar are giving you trouble. Well, variants carrying Fire Blast to fry Skarmory won't be using Superpower so you get a free switch-in and can nail them with one of your own.

The final thing that I want to discuss is changing Latios's set. It's not as effective as it could be. First off, Ice Beam is completely useless since Draco Meteor already wipes opposing Dragon-types and Gliscor off the map. Replace that with Hidden Power [Fire] so that you can fry both Ferrothorn and Scizor who otherwise completely wall you. The other change the needs to be made is the use of Psyshock over Psychic. It hits Blissey harder than your other attacks and lets you kill Virizion even after it boosts with CM. Overall, pretty solid team. I hope that my suggestions help you out and good luck.

THose are awesome suggestions oblivion!

I cant thank you enough! :D your points make sense and are very valid in my situations in battle.

Because of your convincing speech above, I tried all three pokemon.

Here are is my feedback after a series of battles.

Heatran: He is quite a unique lead as he is not used that often as a OU lead now in Gen 5 hahah. However he has been performing quite well, he absorbs fire based attacks coming at skarmory and takes in dark pulses aimed at my dragons well :)
I have to keep this guy alive as long as possible though hahah

Lots of pokemon try to earth power or earth quake heatran, but again, i just switch to skarmory. Those pokemon such as terrakion, glisgor are all walled well by skarmory. This allows me to get a free round of spikes :D

Overall i feel he is definately a better option compared to deoxys s :) as he compliments the team, especially skarmory much better than deoxys ever could.

Jellicent:

He proves himself by stopping rapid spinners and burning them as they run away. Also, those who switch into jellicent get taunted or burned aswell :)

He is a great compliment and help to skarmory. I just realised how important skarmory is to my team hahah :D

However I cant help but think that Rotom-W would kind of do the same job as well.
He can volt switch to scout, and can will o wisps too. Just a thought...
please let me know what you think of Rotoms

Tyranitar: He sweeps no doubt, however it only stops at one kill so far.
I just played a rain team, and his sandstorm ability saved the day trolol
it allowed my latias to Hidden power fire the ferrothorn.
Without that, i dont think I could have won as it was only down to latias, skarmory against ferrothorn and tentacruel who burnt my latias
He has still yet to prove some significant use to my team.

The other problem i have is that its easy for salamence or dragonite to come in and DD after a Superpower. I am forced to switch out and hope with skarmory that he is still alive and healthy to absorb some dragon danced damage.

I was thinking on a non choice scarf set for tyranitar, but he will be too slow for his own good :O
any thoughts?

For Latias, I've had a lot of success with a Calm Mind set similar to yours, however i would really suggest you give this set a try:

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Dragon Pulse

Substitute had done wonders for me, because when you have calm minded to the point where you're pretty much untouchable, people will turn to status to end a potential sweep. By having substitute, you protect Latias from toxic, thunder wave, burn, etc and it also can help you scout for moves. The lack of HP fire could be problematic, but after a couple calm minds dragon pulse is really all you need. I've swept through many teams using this set and the key to Latias' longevity is definitely substitute.

THanks cowfish for your awesome suggestion :)
I did give it a try.
However I find Hidden Power Fire to be TOO useful in dealing with scizor who seems to love switching into my latias and ferrothorn.

So I have decided to go with a Lum berry instead of leftovers because those utility pokemon who love to inflict a status on my latias will get killed trying as I calm mind up and start Sweeping.

although leftovers heals life, I prefer not getting an extra few turns of a status condition.
The lum berry has been working wonders for latias' set up :)

Jellicent:

He proves himself by stopping rapid spinners and burning them as they run away. Also, those who switch into jellicent get taunted or burned aswell :)

He is a great compliment and help to skarmory. I just realised how important skarmory is to my team hahah :D

any thoughts?

Rotom-W cant block rapid spins as it lost its ghost typing

I recommend still keeping Jellicent as you need to have someone to stop the dragons in this metagame to setup.
Plus, Scald is too useful in dealing burn

I will stick to Jellicent then, he has been doing well walling and crippling teams!
He really forces switches for my other pokemon to abuse them, setup and sweep:D

However I have been thinking of switching tyranitar with a Swords Dance Terrakion
