OU RMT - Maintaining Momentum

Introduction:

This is my first volt-turn team and I crafted it with a few ideas in mind. The goal was to create a team that could easily control momentum while providing multiple opportunites for a set up and sweep. I also hate using a rapid spinner so I chose a team that does not worry to much about entry hazards.

[pimg]212[/pimg]

Scizor @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
- U-Turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

I know, Scizor on a volt-turn team, real shocker. This guy brings so much to a team I just could not say no. His U-turn hits like a truck and maintains momentum. He also brings the hard hitting priority in bullet punch while providing pursuit to boot. The perfect pokemon to start the team out with.

[pimg]484[/pimg]

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Modest
EVs: 232 HP / 56 SAtk / 220 Spe
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

It just does not feel right to craft a volt-turn team without Scizors partner in crime. They cover eachothers weaknesses and keep the momentum going with stabbed U-turn and volt switch. Nothing out of the norm here.

[pimg]675[/pimg]

Landorus-T @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
Nature: Modest
EVs: 200 HP / 64 Atk / 224 Def
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-Turn
- Stone Edge

I love this guy. He is a sturdy physical wall that also provides my entry hazard. I do not like to spend too much time with hazards but stealth rock provides so much for a single turn investment and with the switches this team causes it is too good to pass up. It is amazing how hard Lando T hits with minimal investment. I have always felt that it is important for volt turn users to actually hit hard otherwise you are just sort of switching around your pokemon and not causing much pressure. Lando T provides me with a 3rd hard hitting volt turner, Stealth Rocks, and a typing that synergizes well with Scizor and Rotom-W.

[pimg]385[/pimg]

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
Nature: Careful
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
- Wish
- Protect

Jirachi really strengthens this core of 4 and works extremely well with Landorus-T. Scizor, Rotom-W, and Lando-T are fairly sturdy pokemon who will hopefully wear a team down. Jirachi brings wish support that the rest of the team LOVES by keeping them all topped off.

Intermission:
This is the core of 4 that I really enjoy playing. They are sturdy, hit hard while maintaining momentum, and have very few resists. The momentum this team provides creates many opportunities for a sweeper to find a favorable match up to boost up. Choosing the last 2 of my wrecking crew was a hard choice that I am still shaky on. I really wanted to use 2 pokemon that really were able to utilize the favorable match ups that a volt turn team provides.

[pimg]381[/pimg]

Latios @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Psyshock
- Dragon Pulse

I decided that I had a fairly slow team at this point and I needed a little punch. This is why I decided on Latios. He hits like an absolute truck and is one of the fastest pokemon in OU making revenge killing a bit easier. I am still not 100% on this decision but he really does bring the quick heat.

[pimg]149[/pimg]

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 60 SpD / 124 Spe
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

I like dragonite because of his ability to aquire multiple boosts if played properly. I abig part of me would like to put a harder hitting bohemoth here but I just love this set. There are multiple times during a game where dragonite can come in, hide behind a sub, and boost up. Dragonites ability to acheive multple dragon dances is frightening and he is always able to switch out and receive a wish from Jirachi later.

Conclusion:
I really love the core 4 but the last 2 choices were really hard for me. Its not that I dislike Dragonite or Latios, I just feel there may be another duo of sweepers out there that could better utilize the favorable match ups this volt turn team provides. Thank you for your time checking out my team and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Nice team you messed up your sprites though. Serebii always has sprites for all forms. Here is a rotom-w sprite:

And here is a landorus-t sprite

On to your actual team. Timid life orb venusaur will really mess you up if it isn't in range for bullet punch. CM HP ice Keldeo isn't much fun to fight either. I don't really understand why you need scarf latios, as landorus-t and jirachi can handle pretty much every speed boosting threat with rotom to handle gyarados and scizor just in case. I would makescarf latios a life orb latias or latios if you want to hit harder and stick around with recover/roost. In order to really rack up entry hazard damage I would also try out SpD skarmory over jirachi to give you some spikes. An electric weakness is not fun but spikes are really important. This one is really up to you but skarm can help with haxorus or whatever too. Spikes/Roost/Toxic|Whilrlwind/Brave Bird should work, toxic gives you something to cripple latias and rotom-w. SpD skarmory also helps some against SpA landorus who really threatens you. Run a bulkier rotom-w could help. Also try quick attack on scizor to revenge volcaronas easier as they threaten you if they can get past dragonite.

Hello!

Nice team you have here anyway I have some advice to give you so let's start with the rate. Well, first of all, I see a weakness to Stealth Rock because it's problematic for Dragonite and for your volturn core and you haven't ways to avoid the setup of it and you haven't a Rapid Spin or a Magic Bounce user. Therefore, I suggest you to use Forretress replacing Landorus, Forretress can spin the Stealth Rock and can put it too, Forretress can also help you to gain useful momentum with Volt Switch. A EV spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef with a moveset of Stealth Rock, Volt Switch, Gyro Ball and Rapid Spin, with Relaxed nature and with Leftovers should work fine. Then, on Latios I'd change Dragon Pulse into Surf because it has already Draco Meteor so Dragon Pulse is quite useless, otherwise Surf helps you to hit steel-types like Heatran (which beats Scizor, Dragonite, Forretress and Jirachi easily) and to hit Tyranitar. Next, I'd change Rotom-W's EV spread a bit. A EV spread of 248 HP / 28 SpA / 232 SpD should work better than your current EV spread because it allows to switch into Keldeo, Landorus, Starmie, Politoed, etcetera more easily, which are a threats for your team since Latios can't tank their attacks all the battle and since they beat easily the other members of your team. Finally, I suggest you to use Body Slam replacing Thunder Wave on Jirachi. Body Slam allows you to paralyze ground-types and to try to paralyze Thundurus-T which seems quite problematic for your team.

Good luck.

Yo there,

The first advice i have for you is to put body slam instead of thunder wave on specially defensive Jirachi. Thunder wave is tauntable and, with it you cant paralize thundurus-t (which is a threath you should stop with jirachi!) and you cant catch those ground types that like to switch on Jirachi. I think its also worth considering U-turn instead of protect on jirachi, since you know this is a volturn team and jirachi could continue your strategy maintaining momentum. its also very easy to wishpass with u-turn to one of your member and cure them, you should try it.

Now, i see the problems you had with the last two members. im fine with the first 4 but then, i dont know why you are using scarf latios and SUbdd dragonite. In my opinion they just doesnt fit in this team, volturn teams appreciates stronger wall breakers that can take advantage of a pokemon u-turning on one of its counters. The most clear example is Choice band terrakion, you u-turn on heatran with scizor/Jirachi and then you have a nice advantage against your opponent. You also seem very reliant on your dragons to combat weather teams, in particular Rain and sun, but they almost always have a way to deal with dragons so i would use something different.
The best way to eliminate weather inducers is in my opinion any form of trapping. Choice band tyranitar can be considered a good trapper for Politoed and Ninetales. Ninetales tends to switch every time against tyranitar because it cant risk a stone edge in the face, and while it switchs out you can ko it with pursuit. Same thing can be said for non-bulky politoed, with a water move they almost never ko you so you can kill it with crunch or pursuit if they switch out.

Now, i would like to change Scarf latios. Scarf latios its the exact definition of a momentum loser pokemon. The problem is that latios its not even the best thing to revenge kill, in fact draco meteor is very weak after the drop and many thing can take advantage of this, setupping hazards more easily or any other move like Sword dance or Calm mind in your face. Also the fact that its even easier to pursuit does not help, because if they trap it you wont have any revenge killer for the rest of the battle. Here i think you can use a different scarfer, which is keldeo. Choice band tyranitar and scarf keldeo its an already well known strategy, where Choice band tyranitar eliminates almost any keldeo's check (celebi, Jellicent, starmie, Latios..) and keldeo revenge kills and at the same time take advantage of the opponents rain. Latios and Keldeo checks similar things, but Keldeo is better since it has secret sword, so that ferrothorn cant mindlessly switch in on you. Keldeo also isnt pursuittable, and does not have that bad drop. By the way i think its also worth considering an hidden power fire instead of will-o-wisp on rotom-w, because i think your team doesnt really like spikes users like Ferrothorn and Forretress and with this change you can limit this somewhat.
Hope this helps, Gl.

very nice team, just a few minor nitpicks. i don't see what the speed ev's on jirachi are for, apart from outspeeding cbtar (which the rest of your team handles very well). since you'll be paralyzing things left and right with body slam, the speed investment isn't really worth it, in my opinion. i suggest you swap those 32 speed EVs and invest in defense. it helps jirachi take random stone edges, outrages, and just makes it overall more solid defensively.

also, since volt-turn involves you switching a lot, having some way to get rid of entry hazards would be nice. jirachi mitigates this issue by passing wishes so it may not be that big of a problem.

nothing much to say here, very nice, albeit standard, volt-turn team! good luck with it

Hi, there

Known, that your team has to keep the momentum, thanks largely to Volt Switch and U-Turn, but Latios lose the momentum the team, partly because Draco Meteor after attacks suffered the decline of special attack, which creates opportunity for setup from the opponent, also Latios is an easy target for Pursuit by Tyranitar and Scizor for example.
Scarf suggest Keldeo> Latios, that with Secret Sword is able to hit effectively Ferrothorn, and with STAB water hurts under rain attacking, also thanks to the ability (Justified) is not particularly subject to Pursuit indeed increases the attack. Keldeo also resists Bullet Punch Scizor that does very little damage, while Latios it suffers a lot.

Finally suggest Tyranitar> Dragonite, because thanks to this Choice Band is able to eliminate of Keldeo, such as Celebi, Jellicent and Latios, using Crunch or Pursuit which are the two STAB. Tyranitar with these evs: 156 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Spd, with evs in speed exceeds Skamory and make 2 Okho with Stone Edge, with the support of Stealth Rock.
Finally on Jirachi suggest Body Slam> Thunder Wave, as with Body Slam can paralyze even the ground types and those with Volt Absorb as Thundurus-T and even if you can not see very well Jolteon.

For Landorus-T i suggerst you this evs spread: 248 HP / 108 Def / 152 Spd, because you can outrun Adamant Lucario, Dragonite Choice Bander and Toxicroak, being able to kill them using respectively Earthquake and Stone Edge.
Good luck, with your team!
