OU RMT: Team Whatever

This is my newest team. I have tested it, and it works pretty well, losing about 2 matches out of 10. Obviously, I want to get rid of those two losses so I was hoping for help.

Team Whatever at a glance:

Team Whatever building process:

I started from the beggining. With a lead. I wanted a lead that could set up SR and be able to come back into the game later. I knew which Poke was perfect for this job. Metagross.

Then, I wanted a Phsyical Wall. I had a favourite Pokemon for this job, which was Zapdos.

In most of my OU teams, I had a Revenge Killer, and I decided that this team was no different. Latias was a small favourirte of mine, and had the capability to be a Revenge Killer, so I added her to the team.

Now I knew I would need some firepower of some sort, and Gyarados was the first thing that came to mind.
Spr_4h_145.png

Then I figured I was going to need some Spikes to help what little firepower I had, and with 2 SR weaknesses, it would have to be able to Rapid Spin. Cue Forretress;

Now I need something that would have been able to not only block Rapid Spin, but also be able to sweep, so Gengar fitted the job perfectly.

This is when I noticed the Fire weakness. Latias was a great Revenge Killer, but I knew something that would not only pack more punch, but cover that Fire weakness and use it to it's own advantage;

supermarth64 then suggested to me that I should retry Latias in the team, but as a CM user. I tried this and it didn't work out. So I decided that I would need to fill that void of revenge killer, and (under locopoke's advice) put a Choice Scarf on Gengar and changed his set. He also suggested that I use a different set for Zapdos and Forretress, which I tried out and it worked, so thatnks to those guyt's for the help. Also, I had a space in my team, and I needed as Late Game sweeper. So I came up with Lucario. Lucario had worked wonders in for me in the past, and hopefully he would do quite well in this team too.

Now for the 'In-Depth' look:

The Lead

Metagross @Lum Berry
Clear Body
Adamant [+ATK -SPA]
252 HP/236 ATK/8 DEF/12 SPE
- Stealth Rock
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Explosion

Metagross is a great lead in this metagame. It can easily set up rocks, attack, or explode in some cases. This is what I do against (in my eyes) the 5 most common leads in the OU metagame:

Metagross: Outspeed the Smogon set and 2HKO with Earthquake

Roserade: Be cured of Sleep with Lum Berry, 2HKO with Earthquake and then Bullet Punch

Azelf: Bullet Punch it to death.

Gliscor: Normally I would switch to Gengar to avoid the Earthquake, but sometimes I stay in if I think they're gonna Taunt me.

Jirachi: Earthquake first and then my next ove depends on what they did just.

Metagross can also come back later on int he game to attack or take out a Blissey with an Explosion, whic is useful as this team is walled by Blissey.

The reason I have this EV spread is because I wanted to have max HP, near max ATK and be able to outspeed most other common LeadGrosses.

The item is to stop me falling asleep if they are using Roserade or something of the like.

The Spiker/Rapid Spinner

Forretress @Leftovers
Sturdy
Relaxed [+DEF -SPE]
252 HP/112 ATK/144 DEF (0 SPE IV's)
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Explosion

Spikes and Toxic Spikes are invalueble for this team. They help my sweepers immensely by taking up to 25% of the opponents health before I even attack them, and Poisoning them is helpful just incase I hit them and they have less than 12% left, which pretty much ensures OHKO's for every attack I use. Rapid Spin is to rid of opposing SR's that hurt Gyarados and Zapdos. Explosion is again for Blissey and to punish other Poke's who try to set up on Forretress.

The EV spread I'm using ensures max HP and will further help get the OHKO with Explosion. The DEF EV's and the Relaxed nature are for extra defence, bringing Forretress's DEF stat up to 386 making him pretty bulky. Leftovers are there just for the gradual HP recovery.

The Physical Wall

Zapdos @Leftovers
Pressure
Bold [+DEF -ATK]
248 HP/228 DEF/32 SPE
- Roost
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Zapdos is perhaps my favourite Pokemon. In this team it serves as a Phsyical Wall or Tank, and is a counter to many common Pokemon in the current OU metagame. It's STAb Thunderbolt packs a mean punch coming off quite a high base Special Attack stat. Heat Wave and Hidden Power Grass are for coverage, and can help greatly. Zapdos can stay in against most things, and can Roost off any damage and rid of it's Rock and Ice weakness, which can help, although it means it would then be vulnerable to the common Earthquake.

The EV's on this set are to ensure it is pretty bulky. I use this set over the Specially Defensive set because this set seems more Offensive and helps more. Leftovers are for gradual HP recovery when I don't want to use Roost. A Bold nature ensures a high DEF stat, making it like a Wall or Tank if you will.

The Spin Blocker/Revenge Killer

Gengar @Choice Scarf
Levitate
Modest [+SPA -ATK]
4 DEF/252 SPA/252 SPE
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Gengar is a great sweeper. With it's high Special Attack and Speed stats, it is perfect for what I want it to do. Kill. Shadow Ball is it's STAB move. Originally I had Sludge Bomb on here as it was more powerful, but then I realised how stupid itw as to have Sludge Bomb over Shadow Ball as Shadow Ball hits more for Super Effective damage which is helpful. Focus Blast is to take out those pesky Dark types which easily counter this set. Thunderbolt is for coverage, as is Hidden Power Fire.

The EV's and Nature on this set ensue that Gengar outspeeds most things it wants to kill. 252 SPA EV's and a Life Orb gives Gengar the power to OHKO or 2HKO most things.

The Boosting Sweeper

Gyarados @Leftovers
Intimidate
Adamant
156 HP/72 ATK/96 DEF/184 SPE
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Return

Ahh, Bulky DDGyara. This is a solid sweeper. The fact that not much can OHKO it, it has Intimidate and a mediocre Speed stat mean that it cal always get a Dragon Dance or two going. Once it has those, it can sweep with STAB Waterfall, or a base power 102 Return giving it unresisted coverage. Taunt is for those annoying Pokemon that try and inflict status on Gyarados which cripples it.

The EV's on this set ensure bulkiness and a high attack stat with 72 ATK EV's and a posistive nature. 184 Speed makes sure it outspeeds most things after a Dragon Dance.

The Late Game Sweeper
FightingIC_Big.png

Lucario @Life Orb
Inner Focus
Jolly
252 ATK/4 DEF/252 SPE
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Crunch

Lucario is an excellent Late Game sweeper. If I get 1 Swords Dance up and they only have 1-3 Pokemon left, they're screwed. Close Combat, Lucario's STAB move, will OHKO most things off the bat. Extremspeed, with it's 80 BP and its priority mean that it will also do signifficant damage to most things that don't resist it. Crunch is to rid of those pesky Ghost types that trey and ruin your sweep, as they are immune to both Close Combat and Extremespeed.

252 ATK EV's and a Life Orb give lucario a pretty good attacking ability, especially witht he added power from the Life Orb. the 252 Speed stat EV's and the Jolly nature ensue that Lucario can outspeed most things that resist Extremespeed, which is helpful.

You have a major Tyranitar weakness. Metagross is your only Rock resist and if you blow it up, Choice Band Tyranitar will get at least one kill with Stone Edge and Dragon Dance variants will probably sweep your entire team. Forretress will most likely be 2HKO'd by a Choice Band Stone Edge and won't be able to do anything back to Tyranitar anyway. Rest Talk Machamp can counter Tyranitar and can take out Blissey without having to Explode on her.

Machamp @ Leftovers
Ability: No Gaurd
Nature: Adamant
EV's: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe

Dynamic Punch
Ice Punch
Rest
Sleep Talk

Confusion from Dynamic Punch will anoy anything that's not immune to it. I put Ice Punch over Payback to help deal with Salamence, allow it will probably still give you trouble. Machamp would probably be best used over Forretress or Zapdos. You could also use Swampert as it has great synergy with Gyarados.

I really don't think Forretress fits in this team very well. Spikes and Toxic Spikes are nice but your team doesn't feel like it really apriciates them. If you still want a Rapid Spinner, you should consider Starmie as Forretress is generally only used on Stall teams and it will help take care of Gyarados.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EV's: 136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spe

Surf
Thunderbolt
Rapid Spin
Recover

You should add things more to your descriptions like, why you used a one Pokemon over another that can do a similar role and what synergy your team has together.

Tyranitar can be beaten by Metagross is it hasn't been blown up, Gengar with Focus Blast, or Gyarados with Waterfall, as a Stone Edge from Tyranitar will not OHKO, meaning I can set up a DD and then OHKO with Waterfall.

Having Forretress on my team means that I will always set up at least 2 entry hazards, and it can Rapid Spin. Spikes and Toxic Spikes are helpful towards what little attacking power I actually have on this team, so I think I may keep Forretress in the team.

Thanks for the feedback though.

Hey. Your team has weaknesses to several major top threat Pokemon, such as Tyranitar, Salamence, and Gyarados. I'd have to agree that you have a Jolly DD Babari Tyranitar problem (yes they do exist), as it can outspeed Gengar and OHKO it with Crunch and can also OHKO Gyarados with +0 Stone Edge. It can also 2HKO your Metagross after a DD with Fire Punch, while Meteor Mash + Bullet Punch won't 2HKO it.

+1 -1 (Intimidated DD) 252 Atk Jolly Ttar vs your Gyarados:
367 Atk vs 218 Def & 370 HP (100 Base Power): 362 - 428 (97.84% - 115.68%), which is an OHKO after SR or sandstorm.

Your team also has DD Mence problems. After a DD, none of your Pokemon outspeed it and can revenge kill it, while it can sweep your team with Outrage, Earthquake, and Fire Blast. Also, your team has a problem with Gyarados, as it can sweep your team after a DD with Waterfall, Earthquake, and Stone Edge. These Pokemon can set up either on Rapid Spin, an entry hazard turn from Forretress, or a locked-move from Heatran.

Fortunately, this can be remedied by switching your Gengar's item. By giving Gengar a Choice Scarf and HP Ice instead of HP Fire, it can act as an effective revenge killer to all three of these threats. Thunderbolt allows you to revenge kill Gyarados, HP Ice can OHKO Salamence, while Focus Blast takes care of Tyranitar.

Unfortunately with your current team, no Pokemon of yours likes taking Specs Thunderbolts from Jolteon. It can literarly OHKO and 2HKO your whole team with Thunderbolt. By undoing the switch from Latias to Heatran (aka replace Heatran with Latias), you get a reliable switch into Thunderbolts. Also with the moving of Choice Scarf to your Gengar, Heatran isn't doing much for your team anymore. Since your team is a balanced team, I'd recommend going with a CM set with Recover to heal off any damage. Just watch out for Shadow Balls from Jolteon. Fortunately even with your current EV spread, Zapdos can still outstall Shadow Balls.

Latias @ Leftovers
Timid / Levitate
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
-Calm Mind
-Dragon Pulse
-Surf
-Recover

Calm Mind is to boost up Latias's already impressive Special stats. Dragon Pulse is a STAB source while Surf is there to provide neutral coverage on everything in the game except for Empoleon and Shedinja. Recover is to heal off any damage that Latias might have taken. Along with adding Latias to your team, it also provides a way to hit Salamence before a DD and Tyranitar, although you still have to watch out for Crunches from Tyranitar.

Good luck!

I'll try this, thanks.

EDIT: Just tried with Latias and it's horrible. Anyone got any other replacements for Latias? And, I'm thinking of replacing Gyarados with Lucario and Forrtress with something else, any suggestions?

When I first look at this team I notice that you have no real way fo handling stall aside from your Taunt Gyara who gets handled by Rotom, Vaporeon, Suicune or whatever else they have to beat Gyarados. All of your mons are either special sweepers or physical sweepers which means that they can just shuffle their walls around while Spikes and SR make you weaker.

I definetely think that Payback should be used over Explosion on Forretress. This will help you to keep hazards off the field because it gives you something to hit incoming spin blockers with for decent damage. Also you should change his EVs to 252 HP / 252 SpD / 6 Atk with a Careful nature, this is pretty much the new standard nowadays. It lets him take special attacks but still maintain that physical bulk that he's always been famous for.

Next, I think it'd be wise to change Gengar to Rotom-H with Scarf and Trick. This'll give you something to use against stall. Heavy stall teams will usually have no Pokemon that enjoys receiving a choice scarf. It'll cripple them for the rest of the game and it will allow one of your other mons to start setting up. Also in the current OU metagame Gengar is pretty much just another Pokemon that gets handled by Scizor. With HP fire you can't tie other Gengars or Latias which sort of blows.

For Gyarados I definetely think that Bounce should be used over Return. It gives you the same amazing coverage but Bounce has STAB and a chance of paralysis. It helps you hit stuff like Starmie and Vaporeon harder.

Lastly, I think sweeper Zapdos doesn't work too well in current OU. Making Zapdos more defensive will help abuse your entry hazards and will definetely give stall some trouble.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
nature: Timid
EVs: 248 HP / 184 SpD / 76 Spe
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Toxic

This set, especially with support from spikes, tspikes and sr can give many teams trouble, not just stall. Pressure stalling and toxic stalling with reliable recovery and great defenses make this set deadly.

the Zapdos in the team atm isn't a sweeper. It is actually a defensive Zapdos, altough I will try out your set. Gengar is a favourite of mine as I quite like it in the team, although, I do see where you're coming from. I have tried Rotom - H in a couple of my other teams and is ok, except for it's medicore stats. I'll try it in the team though, aswell of Lucario over Latias, as I really don't like Latias.

Yeah, the Zapdos' ev spread is defensive but the attacks are more suited for an offensive Zapdos. Honestly I do think that my set will give you a strong weapon against stall teams and it'll aid your team a lot more than your current set is. As for Rotom-H, his stats aren't really mediocre. His SpA and Speed stats are average, but he has amazing defenses and valuable resistances which make him a great addition to any team, really.

Tbh, I'd rather keep Gengar in. Atm, Lucario is doing a wonderful job of clearing up at the end, and with SR, Spikes and Toxic Spikes down, Extremespeed seems to OHKO everything that doesn't resist it, and anything tht does Colse Combat or crunch can take them out. So I'm ridding the team of Heatran, and Lucario is going in. Choice Scarf is going on the Gengar, and I'll be trying the new EV spread for Forretress. Thanks for your help.
