OU RMT

Hi guys, this is a RMT for an OU team I have been thinking of.

At a glance:

Explanation

490.png

1. Heatran @ Air Balloon
EV: 252 Sp Def / 248 HP / 8 Speed
Nature: Calm
Ability: Flash Fire
1. Roar
2. Stealth Rock
3. Lava Plume
4. Toxic

Heatran lead. Start out with Stealth Rock and adjust accordingly to the opponent afterwards. I have Air Balloon so Heatran isn't OHKOd by Earthquake as well as allowing me to switch out vs Dugtrio leads. Heatran's awesome typing covers everything that my other Pokemon are weak against, such as Ghost (Alakazam), Ice/Dragon (Hydreigon). Roar allows for annoyance as constant switching into Stealth Rock puts heavy pressure onto teams and allows me to counter set up teams (Swords Dance, Agility, etc.) Toxic allows for further annoyance, as Roar + Toxic into Stealth Rock takes away decent HP just by switching in.

65.png

2. Alakazam @ Focus Sash
EV: 252 Speed / 252 Sp. Attack
Nature: Timid
Ability: Magic Guard
1, Psyshock
2. Focus Blast
3. Shadow Ball
4. Hidden Power Fire

Standard Special Sweeper. Stealth Rock or Spikes is not a threat to Zam because of Magic Guard, so I can fully utilize Focus Sash. Psychock si a strong STAB move and allows me to hit Blissey or any other Sp. Walls hard, allowing some pressure. The other 3 provide type coverage.
as Tyranitar or Heatran will be OHKOd by it. Heatran Choice Scarf out speeds Zam but Focus Sash allows it to survive. Shadow Ball is for Cresselia or Celebi and HP fire is for Scizor. Provided I never took previous damage, Zam is one of two of my Scizor checks as Focus Sash allows survival of Bullet Punch. I also had Fire over Ice as I can at least neutral STAB Gyarados and Dragons with Psyshock.

237.png

3. Hitmontop @ Life Orb
EV: 252 HP / 252 Attack
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Technician
1. Fake Out
2. Mach Punch
3. Stone Edge
4. Sucker Punch

TechniTop. using Fake Out, I can get a free hit for good damage. Mach Punch + Technician + STAB= tons of damage. It is also made better because it's a 1st priority move. Stone Edge allows me to hit Dragonite/Gyarados + Pursuit allows for Gengar/Starmie/Celebi. Reuniclus/ Hitmontop is also bulky and is quite capable of surviving attacks. The reason I choose this over Technician Breloom is Fake Out + Sucker Punch. Sucker Punch counters most of the Pokemon that counter Breloom.

665.png

4. Hydreigon @ Expert Belt
EV: 252 Sp. Attack/ 252 Speed
Nature: Serious
Ability: Levitate
1. Draco Meteor
2. Fire Blast
3. Dark Pulse
4. Superpower

Hydreigon can be a serious threat as it's type coverage and strong Sp. Attack cannot be ignored, especially a STAB Draco Meteor. Having Draco Meteor puts pressure on an opponent hard, as nothing that isn't Sp. Def oriented or Steel- type can switch on it without either getting OHKO or losing more than half HP. In the case of a Steel, Fire Blast allows for that threat to be neutralized and Superpower can neutralize Pokemon that check Hydreigon, such as Tyranitar, Heatran, Blissey. IIRC there is no pokemon that resists or neutral to all 4 of these attacks, meaning no matter what Hydreigon will hit for Super Effective thats boosted 20% by Expert Belt.

667.png

5. Volcarona @ Leftovers
EV: 252 HP / 216 Def / 52 Speed
Nature: Bold
Ability: Flame Body
1. Quiver Dance
2. Fiery Dance
3. Bug Buzz
4. Hidden Power Ice

Probably the best Scizor counter in the game. In addition Volcarona is bulky and can utilize Quiver Dance to set up and go for kills, because Volcarana can easily force switches then set up with Quiver. Fiery Dance+ Bug Buzz provide good STAB, with the former having a chance to boost my Sp. Attack to sweep even better, and HP Ice provide Super Effective or neutral to most counters such as Gyarados/Salamence/Dragonite/Terrakion that would otherwise resist both STAB moves. The only one that truly counters this is Heatran.

121.png

6. Starmie @ Leftovers
EV: 252 HP / 252 Speed / 4 Sp. Attack
Nature: Timid
Ability: Natural Cure
1. Rapid Spin
2. Scald
3. Psyshock
4. Thunderbolt

Volcarona needs a spinner or else two switch ins can kill it due to it's Stealth Rock weakness. In addition I need to adjust for Keldeo, so to kill two birds with one stone, I choose Rapid Spin Starmie. Psyshock allows for a strong STAB, especially vs Sp. Def Tentacruel, as well as Keldeo and Terrakion, and Scald also provides a STAB against T-Tar and Volcarona, and provides additional pressure by Burning. Thudnerbolt allows for further type coverage, especially vs Gyarados which I do not think I have anything to check.

Hi, there

First I would give Stealth Rock> Stone Edge on Donphan, both the dragons and flyng hit them equally with Ice Shard, therefore i suggest you Spikes> Stealth Rock Skarmory while we're on.
I think it would be better for Skarmory Brave Bird> Toxic, this is because at least against Breloom, Toxicroak, since you have more investment in special defense, their physical attacks do so much damage with Brave Bird, at least you can hit them without resorting to that Whirlwind attack always making you suffer for second always at least two attacks.

Whereas have two Rapid Spinner: Donphan and Hitmontop, with that moveset instead of Hitmontop we would see better Breloom that helps against bulky water against which you're pretty in difficulty (Jellicent for example), with Breloom thanks to Bullet Seed solve this Of course you could not hit him with Celebi and Dragonite, but what you do already Alakazam, Hydreigon, Volcarona and Donphan.
To put a Donphan nature Impish / Adamant> Serious which is useless because it does not increase any statistics.
Good luck, with your team!

Set:
Breloom (F) @ Fight Gem
Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed

Hi mustbe18toride

Welcome to Smogon! This is an interesting team you have here. I really like the fact that you are not afraid to use some uncommon sets such as Expert Belt Hydreigon and Technician Hitmontop; the surprise factor can really give you the advantage in some battles. Now looking at your team, it is threatened by Keldeo. Keldeo are usually seen with a Choice Scarf equipped so the pony can outspeed your entire team and hit very hard with Rain-boosted Hydro Pumps while using Secret Sword for Hydreigon. For this threat, I suggest replacing Donphan with a Defensive Starmie with a moveset of Scald / Psyshock / Rapid Spin / Recover. Using Starmie continues to give you Rapid Spin support while also offering a great check to Keldeo. Defensive Starmie can take both of Keldeo's STAB attacks and also his coverage move that is typically Hidden Power Ice and retaliate with Psyshock. Psyshock is also very useful for those Substitute Calm Mind Keldeos that can give your team headaches as Psyshock calculates damage using the defending Pokemon's Physical Defense rather than Special Defense. Scald is a nice STAB attack with a nifty 30% chance to burn the opponent which is useful in crippling common switch ins to Starmie such as Ferrothorn. Recover helps extend Starmie's longevity and coincides well with his solid bulk and allows him to come in and Rapid Spin multiple times if need be.

Now your team also has a bit of a weakness to opposing Volcaronas and Sun teams. Volcarona has the potential to sweep your entire team after a Quiver Dance and can set up against Starmie and Hydreigon after it has Draco Meteor'ed. Sun teams with the likes of Chlorophyll Venusaur can also give you trouble. For this weakness, I suggest replacing Skarmory with a Specially Defensive Heatran with a moveset of Stealth Rock / Lava Plume / Toxic / Roar. Specially Defensive Heatran is one of the best checks to Sun teams as he is immune to Fire type attacks and 4x resists Grass and Bug. I suggest using an Air Balloon as the item on Heatran so as to avoid being trapped by Dugtrio as well as being hit by surprise HP Ground from Volcarona. Heatran also gives you a decent check to Dragon types locked into Outrage and Lati@s, being able to burn them with Lava Plume or wear them down with Toxic. Roar provides you with the phazing move that Skarmory is currently carrying to get rid of set up sweepers and rack up entry hazard damage, especially useful against Volcarona.

Hope I helped and good luck with your team!

Hello, mustbe18toride.

This is a very very unorthodox team you have here and you're not afraid to use uncommon sets to be sucessful, so kudos. Anyways, there are some devastating flaws in this team, so hopefully my rate can help this team improve and iron out said flaws. With that said, let's get to the rate, shall we? Alright, first up, I would like to recommend using Life Orb over your current choice of Focus Sash on your Alakazam. Due to Magic Guard, Alakazam can happily spam moves with the 20% increased damage output, without having any Life Orb Recoil. Moving forward with your team, I would like to recommend running a Life Orb on your current Hydregion over your current choice of Expert Belt. Staying on Hydreigon, you should use a Mild Nature over your current choice of a Modest Nature. Mild Nature helps Hydreigon become an excellent mixed attacker and grab the 2HKO on opposing Chansey and Blissey. Finally, on Volcarona, I would highly recommend running Roost over your current moveslot choice of Hidden Power Ice. With Roost, Volcarona can have more staying power with the current EV spread you have given him, which is always nice. Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope my advice helped. Have fun and good luck in your future endeavours!

Thanks for the replies! I have updated my team as well.

@novaray- I really think your ideas of Starmie and Heatran are good and have added them. One question though: would Will-O-Wisp be better or worse?

@dr Ciel- The problem I've had with Life Orb on Zam are Scarf/1st priority moves. Anything that hits for neutral damage can OHKO Zam meaning that I won't even achieve anything. Focus Sash allows for survival of faster attacks and a retaliate counter attack as well. The Hydreigon nature was a typo but I do have Mild. Roost may be a good option but HP Ice allows for more coverage. I will consider it though.

@Mr. Green- if I do keep Skarmory/Donphan I will consider those options.

Hey there, nice team. I like how you went for a non-weatherless team as well as a team that doesn't have a "star of the show". One suggestion I would make is adding another Physical Sweeper. Your team is 5/6 Special Attackers, meaning Blissey and co. can wreck havoc if Hitmontop is shutdown. I would recommend Scarf Dugtrio/Garchomp/Salamence. to replace Hydreigon

1. Dugtrio@ Life Orb/Focus Sash
Nature:Adamant
EV: 252 Atk/Speed
Ability: Arena Trap
1. Earthquake
2. Stone Edge
3. Sucker Punch
4. Hone Claws (Life Orb)/Reversal (Focus Sash)

You are lacking a Choice Scarf user, which can be a downfall in this metagame. Dugtrio is the best Choice counter and revenge killer as well a great Poke to shutdown weather (Ninetales/Tyranitar/Politoad) all cannot take Dugtrio lightly and can be OHKO'd by STAB Earthquake. Life Orb/ Hone Claws can be useful as you switch in on a easy to kill Poke/ Choice locked Electric user and kill. I also but the ReverSash set because you have a spinner that can take away hazards for sash to be used.

2. Salamence @ Choice Scarf
EV: 252 Attack/Speed
Ability: Moxie
Nature: Naive
1. Outrage
2. Dragon Claw
3. Earthquake
4. Fire Blast

This set doesn't explaining. Outrage is powerful late game when counters such as Skarmory/Ferrothorn/Foretress are down, which can be possible due to Fire Blast. Dragon Claw is the main attack early/mid- game as Outrage lock when they still have 4+ can be bad. Earthquake hits tyranitar, jirachi/Heatran. With Moxie Salamence late game/revenge killing can prove to be unstoppable. Also, you have a spinner to compensate for SR weakness.

Garchomp@CHoice Scarf
EV: 252 Attack/Speed
Nature: Naive
Ability: Rough Skin
1. Outrage
2. Earthquake
3. Fire blast
4. Dual Chop

Now you may think, what is the difference between this and Salamence?
1. If Starmie is down, SR can be hazardous to Mence
2. Chomp is faster
3. Dual Chop can break Substitutes
4. Lack of Moxie means Mence can potentially be larger threat.

The set fares the same as Mence so need to explain, however I listed the differences above, so choose your option based on the above. I can't say which one is better as both are very good in their own rights. I would give the slight edge, as a personal opinion, to Garchomp as it is of course faster and is not weak to SR.

Good luck to you!
