Hey guys, this team works decently, but I'm working on making a shift to more of a focus on Dragonite over Weavile for my sweeper. Because of that. some of the roles, some of the pokemon, and some of the movesets dont quite fit. I'm looking for some help to get me on the right track!
Basically, the Team is designed to Lure out Weavile threats, and pick them off.
OVERVIEW
The Lead
Machamp @ Lum Berry
Ability: No Guard
Adamant Nature
EV Spread: 252 HP / 160 Attack / 96 Sp. Defense
Moveset
1. Dynamicpunch
2. Payback
3. Substitute
4. Encore
Standard Anti-Lead Machamp. Survives a Psychic from leads such as Azelf and Starmie, Alakazam, and a +1 Cresselia. Wakes up from Hypnosis from Gengar and OHKOs back with Payback. Encores Pokemon using Stealth Rocks on Turn 1, and confuses the switch-in with Dynamicpunch. Encore also allows me to Trick the opponent. Psychic types LOVE staying in on him because they think it'll die from STAB Psychic, but after I encore, a switch to Weavile means a free Swords Dance. The same goes for Dragonite and Gengar with Earthquake, but the Lure is weaker down that road.
The Setup
Nidoqueen @ Leftovers
Ability: Poison Point
Relaxed Nature
EV Spread: 252 HP / 124 Sp.Attack / 134 Defense
Moveset
1. Toxic Spikes
2. Stealth Rock
3. Ice Beam
4. Flamethrower
This thing has so much potential. I rarely use it to set up Stealth Rocks or Toxic Spikes, but it's main goal is to help allow a sweep in some way, whether its taking out threats or breaking sashes.
Commonly, Scizor, Flygon, and Salamence switch into this thinking they can set up. However, this set not only survives any hit from them (Barring a Salamence Draco Meteor, but I have options after that happens), but it also OHKOes them. The EVs are selected to exactly OHKO Scizor with Flamethrower 100% of the time while creating overall bulkyness.
The Future
Dragonite @ Yache Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
Adamant Nature
EV Spread: 6 HP/ 252 Attack / 252 Speed
Moveset
1. Dragon Dance
2. Superpower
3. Outrage
4. Thunderpunch
I designed this DDNite to function similarly to, but "better than" Salamence when it came to overall team-play. Most people don't know exactly how to react to this set, as its EXACTLY like a Salamence, but nothing like it at the same time. DD + Outrage allows me to get plenty of OHKOs, most notably on things like Electivire, Kingdra, Gengar (who I outspeed after one DD), Zapdos, etc. Most things that resist Outrage will be taken down by Superpower, like Blissey and Heatran, which my other sweeper cannot do. Thunderpunch for Gyarados, which also walls my other sweeper.
This can easily switch into any Choice user stuck on Earthquake (Which Nidoqueen and Tyranitar are both weak to), or into an Encored Earthquake via Machamp, and Dragon Dance on the switch. By the time the Scarf users are back in play, the speed boost of my own will outspeed them, and my attack boost will OHKO with some sort of move.
By Holding a Yache Berry, I ensure surviving Kingdra's Ice Beam and can Dragon Dance up. After that, I am faster (unless Swift Swim is activated), and can not only OHKO Kingdra, but the speed boost allows me to get more OHKOs. If Swift Swim is activated, I'll still OHKO with Outrage but am more vulnerable to sweeps.
I also survive Porygon-Z Ice Beams and OHKO with Superpower.
The Caulker
Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Timid Nature
EV Spread: 6 HP / 252 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed
Moveset
1. Shadow Ball
2. Energy Ball
3. Thunderbolt
4. Focus Blast
I can't say I NEED Gengar, but he's my Caulker. He fills a few holes I have. Without Energy Ball, I found myself walled by Swampert. Thunderbolt helps me with Gyarados.. but really, I havent found a huge need for him.
Originally, I used a Sub-Punch Gengar to lure out Blissey, as Weavile's Brick Break doesn't OHKO. Once I added Dragonite, though, I found the Sub-Punch Set less of a necessity, and an Energy Ball set to be more vital.
The Star
Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Jolly Nature
EV Spread: 6 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed
Moveset
1. Night Slash
2. Ice Punch
3. Swords Dance
4. Brick Break
Pretty Simple - Swords Dance on something switching out, and wreak havoc to anything not named Aerodactyl, Crobat, or Jolteon. Weavile's amazing power and Speed are only hindered by the fact that it's got nothing beyond base 75 power attacks... which really stinks. Swords Dance + Brick Break doesn't OHKO Blissey at all. However, I do get notable kills on Cresselia, Latias, Gliscor, and Salamence.
The main problem with Sweepvile is that although a Swords Dance on a switch sounds enticing, any wrong prediction results in it's death. Expect a Blissey to Switch out on you and Swords Dance - Get Flamethrower'd or T-Waved.
Also, a lot of things that I plan on killing inevitably switch out, and by the time they see playtime again, Weavile is dead.
Because of that, I've thought about a Choice Banded or Pursuiting Weavile to keep similar power minus the setup costs.
The Buttplug
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Brave Nature
EV Spread: 252 HP / 252 Attack / 6 Defense
Moveset
1. Crunch
2. Earthquake
3. Flamethrower
4. Stone Edge
I know what You're thinking. I'm extremely Scizor weak if Nidoqueen takes damage, or even worse is killed.
Tyranitar Lures the little bugger out by resisting crunch, being neutral to Stone Edge, and having at least 3 Super Effective Hits against the Gold/Silver Behemoth. Little does he know, that Technitian Choice Banded Bullet Punch from a Scizor wont OHKO me, and that there's a Furnace waiting to burn the Platinum legend to a crisp. When scizor isn't a factor, this thing still wreaks havoc on the opposition, working as a good Heatran counter, a backup Latias/Cresselia counter, Killing Gyarados, and an effective late-game sweeper (as I tend to keep him in the shadows for a while so Gengar and Weavile aren't killed by Life Orb + Sandstorm)
Unfortunately, the speed drop from the Brave Nature stops me from Outspeeding a lot of common opponents. Would a Naughty nature prove better?
Overall, from what I've noticed:
-Metagrosses give me issues. Because of that, so does Bronzong.
-If opponents don't switch Flygons and whatnot into Nidoqueen, she's essentially worthless.
Basically, the Team is designed to Lure out Weavile threats, and pick them off.
