I've recently started playing in OU on Smogon, and with the number of Mega Charizard Ys running around I decided to give a Sun team a go. Now before anyone gives me suggestions I would like to say 2 things, I am new to OU and as such do not know every threat to prepare for. Secondly, I do not just want to hear Sun is bad because of 6th gen changes, so far, even though I know I'm still in the scrub tiers (below 1400) it has not lost many battles. That being said any legitimate help is appreciated, now on to the team.

Dawn (Ninetales) (F) @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Bold Nature
- Flamethrower
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hidden Power [Ground]
Ninetales was my chosen sun setter. It's greater bulk than Mega Charizard Y, ability to run heat rock, and only 2* weakness to stealth rocks, made it a much better choice in my opinion. It serves as a mixed wall, not designed to wall one thing or another but just in hope to live as long as it can to ensure more sun setups. Pain split and Will-O-Wisp add to its longevity and hp ground is there for heatran which is a massive threat to my team.
Deuces (Victini) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- Brick Break
- U-turn
Victini is a monster. V-Create in the sun KO's almost everything that resists it let alone neutral or supereffective hits. It serves as an excellent leas, a great revenge killer and just a general hit and run pokemon. Bolt Strike is there for Slowbros and the like, brick break is for T-tar and for Heatran, while u-turn is just for switch initiative.
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Roost
Latias is my defogger. Rocks are deadly to sun teams and removing them is lati's main goal. It has Draco and Psychock to smash anything that is in or to ensure a ko late game. Roost helps. However T-tar wrecks this set which is why I decided to add my next pokemon.
Crysty (Diancie) @ Diancite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 32 Atk / 224 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Mega Diancie is there as a counter to many things my team is weak to. Moonblast is obligatory stab as well as helping take care of T-tar as well as many dragon types while often also getting neutral KO's on many mons. Diamond storm while sadly being based on attack is its other strongest stab move, helping to ko opposing fire types and flying types. Earth Power is there for Heatran and other steel types that often switch in to take advantage of diancies 4* weakness. Hidden Power Fire is incredible under sun and helps to destroy ferrothorns as well as other grass types.
Finnesse (Garchomp) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 76 SpD / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Stone Edge
I would love to say I didn't just think Stealth Rock.... Talonflame... then go with bulky rocky helmet chomp but thats exactly what I did. Garchomp is a straight up counter to talonflame as well as being bulky enough to SR on just about anything not carrying HP Ice or ice beam. EQ and Dragon Claw are there as just stab, but stone edge is there to KO Thunderus, talonflame, Charizard and is its best move against Land-T. Not much else to say about this mon.
Aunt Petunia (Venusaur) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 180 Spe
Timid Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sludge Bomb
Venasaur is one of the best sun sweepers in the metagame in my opinion. With a Growth up and 5 turns of sun this pokemon can pretty much KO anything not named Heatran or Talonflame. Outside of sun this pokemon still does extremely well living a hit from most of the metagame, as well as dishing back great damage. Giga Drain adds longevity to the pokemon as life orb does slowly wear it down along with priority, sludge bomb is the other stab move of choice, While HP Fire is there for ferrothorn.
================================================================
That is it for the team and I hope to get some suggestions and comments. Again this is the first actual team I built for OU so I'm sorry If i made some bad mistakes like maybe a glaring weakness to azumarill.... (#CTC). Anyways looking forward to some feedback, Thanks ahead of time.
