OU team, all advice appreciated

Hi there, ^^

So I see that Dreamworld Teams are, well, taking over the pokemon world. So, I wanted to make a team without any of the dreamworld abilities on the pokemon I chose. I am not that great at pokemon, but a little assisstance can go a long way. I think the team I made does have potential, and has gotten decent wins for me, but I know there are many out there who are better than me, so, let's see how much better this can be.

Before we get started, I would like to mention the following:
  • The opponent can use Dreamworld pokemon
  • I don't like using legendaries, uber or not. I just don't like them for some reason. However, I don't care if my opponent uses them
  • Obviously, no Ubers, seeing as this is in an OU RMT sub-forum XD
  • Please don't suggest to me to use a dream world abilitied pokemon. I want this team to have no influence from the dream world. And I think that's it. Now, the team
376.png

Metagross@ Air balloon/Occa Berry??
Nature: Adamant
Abilty: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk /252 HP / 4 Sp. Def
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake/Hammer Arm
-Explosion
-Bullet Punch

Metagross is my lead, obviously. His main role is to set up Stealth Rock. however, if the lead is something which directly threatens Metagross, like Heatran, I would use something along the lines of Bullet Punch then Earthquake. Metagross is more of a Tank as well, with the EVs distrubuted. He's more there to take a hit to set up, then hopefully take something down with. I chose explosion in the last slot, which needs prediction, but can punch a whole in anything which could possibly threaten my team badly. I would prefer Earthquake over Hammer Arm, as it's the fire types I have problems with, and Metagross still keeps a decent enough speed. I really can't decide with it's item, whether resistance against fire would be better, then go for a kill, or to completely resist ground type moves *cough earthquake cough*

205.png

Forretress@ Leftovers
Nature: Sassy
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 Sp. Def
-Toxic Spikes
-Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-Volt Switch

This guy's role is to live as long as possible (hence the EV spread and nature), set up toxic spikes, then normal spikes, while rapid spinning away any hazards affecting me. I can't be bothered with Gyro ball, so I decided to give it a slight boost in Sp. Def instead with Sassy nature. With Volt Switch, I can run away from any threats which could harm it, as Forretress does need to do it's job as spinner. If necessary though, I will do an all out proper switch as Forretress is a bit slow to use Volt Switch.

607.png

Jellicent@ Leftovers
Nature:Calm
Ability:Cursed Body
EVs:248 HP / 116 Def / 44 Spe / 100 Sp.Def
-Surf
-Taunt
-Recover
-Will-o-wisp

So, this is the standard set, apart from the EVs. The reason I changed the EVs is because I already have Metagross and Forretress to make up for a Physical Defence. So, as the summary already explains, 44 Speed to outspeed and burn scizor, taunt for slower pokemon with recovery moves, STAB Surf for more power as I already have Will-o-wisp to burn and Recover for my own healing move. I chose this guy to be on the team as, well, he fits on nearly every single team around. Cursed Body is chosen for those choice users, who are locked in the wrong move. It can also prevent Jellicent from being attacked by a harmful move.

651.png

Volcarona@ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Abilty:Flame Body
EVs:252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Sp. Atk
-Quiver Dance
-Fire Blast
-Bug Buzz
-Morning Sun

Don't ask me why I like bulky pokemon, I just do lol. This pokemon to me is treated to me as a sweeper as well as something that wants to live. I chose Fire Blast over Fiery Dance because of the power difference and the fact I am already getting boosts from Quiver Dance. I obviously invest all my Defence EVs into HP and Def as these are the stats Volcarona can't change (unless you count Morning Sun). Bug Buzz is the STAB move for more coverage here, and Morning Sun to keep it alive and dancing. I know this sun does best in the sun, which is why my next pokemon is a sun support.

395.png

Infernape@ Heat Rock
Nature:Calm
Ability:Blaze
EVs:100 Sp. Def / 252 HP/ 116 Def ???
-Solarbeam
-Fire Blast
-Sunny Day
-U-Turn

Here he is, my sun support. I don't really need him to live, but he can always hope, right? So, basically, it sets up the sun for 8 turns. If it dies, unlucky, if it doesn't, why not do some damage before running away? So Solarbeam is there, because it doesn't need charge, while Fire blast will have immense power, and even more if Blaze is in effect. U-Turn is if I want a quick getaway to Volcarona to sweep, or whatever necessary. I'm not completely sure about the EVs, so any help there would be appreciated.

626.png

Haxorus@ Choice Scarf
Nature: Adamant
Abilty: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252Atk / 252 Spd/ 4HP
-Brick Break
-Dual Chop
-Outrage
-Earthquake

And finally, I introduce to you my physical sweeper. He already has a massive base Attack stat, so I am going with the choice scarf, so his speed can catch up to it's Atk stat. Brick Break is to hit Ferrothorn and other steel types hard, dual chop gets rid of Subs, and deals damage to the pokemon in the process. Outrage hits like a beast, and Earthquake is great, because it even hits levitaters. And that's my team.

Please rate it, and I will consider everything. Take note, even if this team is great, I'm still not that great when it comes down to battling, so yeah. That may be why this team can be dissapointing in it;s battles. Anyway, rate away ^^

There is no such thing as a "lead" this generation because of team preview. This team is very weak to excadrill in the sand because you have no ground resist and it can outspeed and KO your whole team. You will need to have sun out in order to beat it but they can stall the sun out and procide to sweep. I highly suggest gliscor in place of metagross with a set of..

472.png

Gliscor @ Toxic orb
Poison heal (Sorry dream world ability but not you can still get it without hacks)
244 HP / 184 Def / 80 Spe
Sword dance
Earthquake
Ice fang
Protect / Taunt

Now that your missing stealth rocks you should use a set on infernape that looks like this..

392-frame1.png

Infernape @ Life orb
Blaze
252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Naive
Overheat
Close combat
Stealth rock
U-turn

It's just a better and more reliable set in general. Hope I helped!

True with the team preview thing, I'm still in 4th gen mode XD

As much as I'd like to try this suggestion, I'd still like to keep it non-dreamworld for now. I plan on making a dream world team with gliscor when time decides to make itself available.

Also, about the infernape, I would lose the sun support, therefore losing a great advantage to Volcarona. I will try to come up with something against the excadrill though.

Thank you for the suggestion though.

I'd say the biggest weakness to your team would be scarfed special sweepers. espiccially Azelf. Azelf has a fire blast for forretress and metagross and pshycic for infernape its also fast enough to outrun haxorus and hit it with hp ice. and physical Azelf could also make a huge problem. ( Not as big but still a problem,) and take down jellicent after a couple of thunderpunches

Azelf can be burned by will-o-wisp, making thunderpuch less effective, while I can use STAB surf to slowly take it out, and recover off other damage (and that's not even mentioning cursed body, which, under burn, azelf will probs use psychic instead for neutral STAB, which has a chance of disable). Also, Volcarona will take decent damage from fire blast (not sure how much) But I can still use Quiver Dance, and morning Sun off the damage. So I think that's covered.

This team seems kinda all over the place. Lets get things in order:

Metagross is a, hmm, its bulky yet you run adamant? I suggest making it a little more bulkier, so that its only job it to set up hazards and maybe scout the opponent?

Metagross @ Leftovers
N: (+Def -SpA)
EV: 252 Hp/204 SpD/52 Atk

~ Toxic
~ Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake/Meteor Mash
~ Protect

You see, toxic in my opinion can work on any lead as it will eventaully force a switch. It also racks up some nice damage and its always unexpected on pokemon that usually don't carry it. Protect is to spam Leftovers and poision, and to scout out for your opponents attacks/game plan. Earthquake/Meteor Mash are your moves of choice as since your a little more bulky, you can speed up the process of poision and then force a switch. Which is usually good. Beware of Taunt, usually you should be able to precidt that.

Theres a big problem with foretress. Grounds types immune volt switch and leave foretress against pokes it can't scratch. Replace it for STAB U-Turn. Also, spike/toxic spikes takes to much time to set up, giving your opponent time to set up and sweep on your ass. You might want to pick the one you like most, and kick the other one for Gyro Ball.

You realize you have a big water weakness?! Gice Jellicent water abosrb, over cursed body. Works better.

You need a better sunny day pokemon to set it up. How about Cresselia and take out Haxorus?

Infernape @ Sash/C Band
N: Jolly/Adamant
E: 252 Spe/252 Atk

~ Mach Punch
~ Sunny Day
~ Flare Blitz
~ CC

Cresselia @ Heat Rock/Toxic Orb/Flame Orb
N: Modest/Calm
E: 252 Hp/252 SpD/4 SpA

~ Morning Sun
~ Sunny Day
~ Psychic
~ Psycho Shift

That will be all from me for now, I will be back here, soon. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips. I will try out the metagross, it looks like a good idea. As for Forretress, I was thinking of replacing it with tentacruel instead. What would you think of that? That way, I have toxic spikes, and a spinner still, and this will also cover a little more water weakness.

Infernape is only there to set up the sun, so if I get a replacement, it would be for him, not for Haxorus. Haxorus is my physical sweeper, and he is needed on the team, unless for someone better. But that 147 Base Attack is awesome. I did say I don't like using legends at the start, but I will give Cresselia a go. The reason I chose Infernape though is so he can use Solarbeam as well as use a decent fire type move in the sun. Thanks for the criticism.

<Suggestions>

Tentacruel does seem like a better Rapid Spinner. Although, this is a sun team which means he will have a weakened scald. So Foretress is a bit better fitted for the team, because he can fire off High STAB Gyro Balls, and set up toxic spikes for the team and still spin some hazards. He can STAB U-Turn out of there, so it makes it better suited for this team.

-Haxorus and Infernape-

Haxorus cannot be used in a sun team -.- infernape is better here because he can also become a physical/special/or mixed sweeper in the sun. His attack is pretty high, and has Iron Fist and has one of the fastest speeds in the metagame.

-Your Team Format-

2 Defense Tanks/Walls (Metagross & Foretress)
1 Special Defense Tank/Wall (Jellicent)
1 Special Sweeper/Sp.Defense(ish) (Volcarona)
1 Physical Sweeper (Haxorus)
1 Sun Setteer (Infernape)

THERE ARE NO SWEEPERS EXPECT FOR ONE IN THIS TEAM (Well, sweepers that can actually use the sun.) Take note that Metagross and Foretress hate sun, making them bad synergy. Haxorus doesn't belong on weather teams. Infernape is a poor choice to even set up. This is what I meant as sloppy.

If you want to keep sun:

Cresselia (Sun Settter/Sp.Wall)
Infernape (Phy. Sweeper)
Volcarona (Sp.Sweeper)
Leafeon (Sun Setter/Phy. Wall)
Smeargle (Lead/Hazards)
Hitmontop (Rapid Spinner/Ground Type Counter)

Cresselia @ Heat Rock/Leftovers
N: (+ Sp.Def/ - Atk)
E: 252 Hp/252 SpD/4 SpA

Morning Sun/Sunny Day
Psychic/Psycho Shift (or Lunar Dance)

Infernape @ Choice Band/Life Orb
N: Adamant/Jolly
E: 252 Atk/252 Spe/4 Hp

Close Combat/Mach Punch
Flare Blitz/U-Turn

Volcarona @ Leftovers
N: (+ Sp.Def -Atk)/Modest
E: 204 Ded/252 Hp/52 SpA

Bug Buzz/Morning Sun
Quiver Dance/Fire Blast(Or Flamethrower)

Leafeon @ Leftovers
A: Regular (Leaf Guard)
N: Impish
E: 252 Def/252 Hp/4 Atk

Wish/Protect
Leaf Blade/ (Yawn/Heal Bell/Roar)

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
N: Timid/Jolly
E: 252 Spe/252 Hp/4 Def

Spore/Toxic Spikes
Stealth Rock/Spikes

Hitmontop @ Leftovers
N: Adamant/Jolly
E: 200 Def/200 Sp.Def/104 Atk

Rapid Spin/Close Combat
Mach Punch/Sucker Punch

If you want a rain team instead for foretress and metagross, just say so and will come up with a different analysis.

Hope this helps!

Special pokes could really hurt your team, especially if you Jellicent is taken out, I recommend something like Latias along with Jelli.
