OU Team, can I beat you?

I havent played pokemon in a while and i am trying to get back into the metagame which hasnt change that much, i think. I made some changes to my old team and see how it works but i would love some advice and feedback. My old team was jolteon, swampert, gengar, lucario, gyarados and scizor. I am willing to make changes from your advice but i will try to wait for a couple of response before making changes to see which i like more so if i dont seem to change anything dont think that i am not willing to take advice and my new team is:

Thanks for all the advice first of all, and great ideas so far that i have tried, one was removing jolteon but it wasnt as helpful as i though as i missed him a lot, i seemed to need him every other time so i put him back but will try to use life orb jolteon. The biggest change was latias instead of salamance which has been great and latias has so many good moves that i have been having a blast using them all, also someone on shoddy suggested a empleon instead of heatran and i am considering it, what do you guys think? he is weak to electric attack that will let jolteon get in and swampert, takes ice and drageon attacks aim at my new latias and grass attacks aim at swampert. But which set from what i have thinking a yawn empleon would work as heatran as a wall that allows me to take hits and change pokemons. Also latias resists ground and fighting attacks. Empleon just seems to have good synergy with my team but he is weak to ground pokemons but latias is more reliable than salamance and stay around longer. I used zapdos while jolteon was gone and sometime he was a champ and really hit pokemons hard even with a defensive set but stealth rock really hurt him and i always forget to use roost, so i might give him a second chance, again thanks for the advice and i will keep using all the feedback.

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/4 Atk/252 Def
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
I have swampert as my lead now and he is excellent at that, he does exactly what I want him to do; lay down rock and scout, with roar. He only fails when roserade shows up or I know the opposing lead is ready to explode and don’t have a ghost in my team to take the explosion which now heatran is my only hope to survive. If he stays alive he counters so many threats that I almost always try to keep him alive. His moves are pretty standart i have been thinking of using avalanch instead of ice beam but i think ice beam is more useful. Great lead and pokemon all around, he is sticking aound.
135.png

Jolteon @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]/Shadow Ball
- Baton Pass
Jolteon is here to give my team some sort of fast special attacker and pass substitutes to my sweepers, and with all the life orb and spec jolteon around he usually has no problem in doing so. Jolteon does a lot for my team, he is fast and can revenge kill, can sweep weakened teams with petaya berry, and pass substitutes to allow my sweepers to set up. HP (ice) hasnt been very helpful and with so many celebis, latias, and rotoms around i am thinking to change it to shadow ball. I took him off and put him back and trying life orb but now he passes petaya berry to latias in the late game and is a great combo and he draws ground attacks.
485.png

Heatran @Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP/16 SAtk/240 SDef
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Will-o-wisp/Dragon Pulse/Magma Storm
Heatran is the latest addition to my team, and has brought a lot of resistances that I have needed, also he and jolteon have a nice balance on the special offense I feel they complement each other, although both weak to ground attacks. Heatran is more of a transition pokemon for me he takes attack with his resistances and allows me to figure out my next move. The move set is not set on stone at all so feel free to suggest one, i really would like some moves beyong fire and ground as they really limid heatran power to hurt my opponent. Heatran is so predictable and i cant seem to use him well i might change him but he does take hits well. I tried to use celebi instead of jolteon too but all the scizors running around and there are a lot really hurt him but the baton pass one was interesting if only he wasnt weak to fire, he would make a better team mate to lucario.
286.png

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 74 HP/252 Atk/184 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Substitute
- Seed Bomb
- Focus Punch
I have been trying this pokemon and he is a life saver, spore is by far the best move of the game IMO. Breloom’s job is to weaken my opponent one focus punch at a time he takes advantage of slower pokemon not there are many slower pokemon but he has some very good resistances to ground, grass, fighting, and electric moves aim at his team mates. His moves are excellents i think although he can be wall easily i have though about changing substitute for something else but substitute is so handy. Breloom seem to do his job of taking lucario's opponents down or at least bringing them to the open and if nothing else putting them to sleep. He has not let me down yet and there seem to be a lot of swamperts around.
380.png

Latias @ lleftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
- Surf
- t-wave/thunderwave
- Wish
Someone suggested latias and she everything i ever wanted, can take hits really well and has key resitances that balance my team out. The move set i am trying differnt things i like the more support latias and t-wave is usually an unexpected and helps to make lucario's sweep easier by paralysing pokemons like gengar and gyarados. Latias is fast and reliable and from what i have use her so far she is great.
448.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Crunch/Bullet Punch
Lucario is the most effective sweeper I have used and he earned this spot, he is so deadly and gives great support with extremespeed to revenge kill, or help kill pokemons that manage to dragon dance or use agility, but at the end he is my main sweeper and I like to keep him hidden until the end and if jolteon can pass him a substitute then everything goes according to plan. His counter seem to be similar to brelooms so they are mostly are hurt, if not gone hopefully, or sleep to allow him to have an easier job sweeping. I put bullet punch and i get wall by celebi, i put bullet punch and gengar appears i can seem to get it right but for now crunch seem to be more useful but mostly i use neither.

If you want to know more about my team just ask i always try to write as little as possible to not bore people, and please any help would be appreciated.

Flame Blast: 1st revealed move of the 5th generation. :toast:

Option 1: Don't think you need to pass a Sub really, and passing it to a guy with the same weakness (ground also hurts Luke) is not so great. Forget the Scarf on Salamence and give it to a Rotom Appliance, who should replace Jolteon and cover the Gyarados problem. Let Salamence fill a better role.

Option 2: Keep Jolteon the way she is because Breloom or Swampert should handle Gyarados anyway. Change Salamence to a Dragon Dancer and give Heatran a Scarf. The standard set should fit in fine. This way you can pass subs to either a flyer who resists ground or Luke who resists both stabs of Tyranitar.

Yeah I don't think your Jolteon at the moment is accomplishing anything, other than passing a boost and a sub to Heatran, which cant do much with it due to lack of Special attack EV's, also they are walled by the same pokemon. I recommend going with a standard Specs Jolteon or Life orb Jolteon.

On Salamence you want max speed, if only to speed tie with other +1 Salamence and Scarf Flygon.

On Heatran put Fire Blast over Overheat. Since you're a sub-Tran set you don't want to be staying in with the -2 SpA, but you don't want to switch out when you have a perfectly good substitute up either.

You have a major ground weakness. Your salamence will be switching a lot due to the scarf, and with stealth rock mence won't last too long. Breloom resists ground, but can't switch into ground. a choice banded earthquake from things like metagross rips 45% of brelooms health. Try a celebi, she can pass calm minds or swords dances, subs, or spread paralysis. Celebi would form the "celetran" combo and have great synergy with your team. However, this would probably go over breloom.

Hello there!

This is a nice team, but it seems to have some issues. Lucario can rip through your team with relative ease after it gets a Swords Dance under its belt, as it can OHKO most of your Pokemon with one of its moves and then do very heavy amounts of damage to the Pokemon it doesnt OHKO. I also notice that your team seems to have some rather large problems handling Ground type attacks. They can hit three of your Pokemon for heavy damage, where you only have two resistances; Salamence isnt a very reliable one however due to its Stealth Rock weakness, and Breloom's poor defense stat means that it will take large amounts of damage from a powerful Earthquake user, even though it does resist it. Dragon Dance Gyarados looks like it could also be problematic for your team to take down once it gets a few boosts under its belt.

In order to fix all of these weaknesses, I really think that your team could benefit from a physically defensive Zapdos in Jolteon's spot. At the moment, I really dont see Jolteon doing a lot for your team. It mostly just dishes out Special attacks, however it cant switch into anything, and I'm not a huge fan of the set you're currently running. Anyway, for Zapdos, use a set of Thunderbolt | Roost | Hidden Power Ice | Heat Wave, an EV spread of 248 HP | 228 Def | 32 Spe, and a Bold nature with the item Leftovers. Zapdos helps handle all of the Pokemon that your team has trouble with. Hidden Power Ice + Zapdos's decent defensive stats make it a decent check to Dragon Dance Salamence. Heat Wave helps out against the many common Steel type Pokemon in OU, and can hit Lucario very hard.

I don't see your current Salamence set doing much for your team. Sure it holds survive value, but it really doesn't check anything useful for your team. I think that a MixMence set could be very good on your team. Try a set of Draco Meteor | Earthquake | Fire Blast | Outrage, an EV spread of 16 Atk | 240 SpA | 252 Spe, and a Naive nature with the item Life Orb. Mixed Salamence can help your team wear down that various walls that will trouble it. The 16 Special Attack EVs allow Salamence to OHKO Blissey with a mixture of Draco Meteor and Outrage after Stealth Rock damage. One final thing, I would go with Will-O-Wisp as opposed to Magma Storm in Heatran's final slot. A trapper Heatran doesn't do a lot for your team I think, and Will-O-Wisp can help your Pokemon take on physical attackers.

Hope I helped, and just PM me if you have any questions! ;)

I want a pokemon that can take ground attacks and can handle water pokemons, or at least take a surf or two. Also i need something to deal with dragon dancing gyarados with jolly natures(which are more common than before) that outspeed my jolteon.
Have you considered Scarf Latias to replace your current Salamence set? Her massive special defense means that bulky waters are her bitch (so she can take surf), and she can pack thunderbolt to deal with Gyrados as you had mentioned, as well as revenge DDMence. Also she doesn't have a crippling stealth rock weakness, so she can switch in a bit more than your current Salamence.

Hope I helped.

before i begin, i'm giving you sets, i use SPD for speed and SP.DEF for special defense

jolteon really doesn't seem to be doing much

sub-passing with jolteon isn't that great, he's too weak and he lacks the HP to really do it well

while yea, passing the peteya berry is pretty good, you're pretty much wasting jolteon's effectiveness since he's not bulky and is used mostly as a revenge killer

he can only come in on electric attacks and possibly flying attacks
if the flying attack is special, he'll have no problem but the only user of that is togekiss (whose still going to put a dent into jolteon)

so you're pretty much using a revenge poke to set up another poke

making jolteon into the specs set would be better

Jolteon@Choice Specs
Jolly
252/252/6 (SP.ATK/SPD/DEF) (put into def for SR shenanigans)
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
HP Ice/Grass
Baton Pass/Roar/Signal Beam

HP ice or grass depending on which type you need more coverage for
swampert is weak to grass (HP ice) but the rest of your team takes care of grass pokes quite soundly
ground types (HP grass) seem to be more worrisome to your team, so go with that

the last move is up to you, baton pass is for scouting, roar is used as a pseudo-haze to stop pokes like CMcune from setting up and raping your team (i use it on my jolteon set, works wonders), also benefits from SR being set up, signal beam is just another attack jolteon can utilize since he is using choice specs

roar is a weird move most will ask, well here is why it works much better than expected on jolteon
jolteon is fast, very fast (only deoxys (not the defense form), ninjask, and electrode out run it naturally, aerodactyl, mewtwo, and crobat are tied)
when jolteon comes into play, he is either revenge killing or coming in a well predicted gyarados using DD (gyarados only hits 391 speed after 1 DD, jolteon has 394 max)
this works much better if you have spikes and SR in play, but SR alone makes this great anyways (spikes make it more annoying)
now, if you can predict it right, the opponent is most likely going to switch if their poke has a good amount of health (like coming in on a gyarados if it has not used more than 1 DD), if jolteon is a threat to OHKO it (since pretty much, 90% of all jolteons run specs), they are going to switch
ABUSE THIS, make them pay, since you're running roar, it may keep them guessing to if you're actually run a specs set or not and may switch one or two times in a row (damage adds up over time), a good player will catch on quickly and see that you're just using roar (don't worry about soundproof, only electrode, mr. mime, and exploud have it and they don't exist in OU play, pretty much) since you have specs, but at that time, some of his pokes could now be in OHKO range for the rest of your team, switch out jolteon for someone else (usually latias or swampert as they're the bulkiest) and continue, works great only if you use it right (basically if the opponent has just sends out a gyarados, you get 1 free roar in, it's too much of a risk try and earthquake jolteon since you outrun him even after 1 DD, just don't get too predictable)

another option you can use is Zapdos and it also learns roar and doesn't have to worry about earthquake and can learn baton pass, up to you, zapdos provides some bulk

now looking at this, zapdos could provide more to your team
zapdos is a flexible pokemon, it can run many different sets running from choice sets, to baton pass sets, to sub sets, to defensive sets and finally offensive

also, the typing is great, being weak to only ice and rock while being immune to ground and resisting grass, fighting, bug, flying, he can also learn roar which both annoys and hazes, and is an even better counter to gyarados not running ice fang or stone edge (which the most common sets don't), he's not as fast as jolteon but he's better in every other stat but a lot except for special attack (he only has 15 more base over jolteon, still a difference in his favor)

preferably, running a bulky-offensive set is the best way to use him, since SR is common and he is weak to it, he'll probably switch in quite a few times so making him bulky means he can recover the damage longer, best set for you would be:

Zapdos@leftovers
Bold
248/228/32 (HP/DEF/SPD)
Thunderbolt
Roost
HP Grass/Ice
Heat Wave/Roar

first two moves are obvious on his set, he's bulky so being able to roost is a must (just remember, you're weaknesses are changed to those of an electric type, so he'll be weak to ground, resist electric and flying, and be neutral to bug, grass, fighting, and ice)

HP grass works better with Heat Wave and stops swampert from doing damage to your team (he always does)

HP ice gives better type coverage than HP grass, which is why it's superior if you choose to run Roar as the final move, but beware that swampert rapes zapdos without HP grass

me, i would use HP grass and Heat Wave, stops steel types and covers swampert who deals major dents to all teams, do remember, Zapdos can only revenge kill swampert safely, do not switch in unless it's that blatantly obvious that he's not using ice beam (which pretty much means, don't switch in on swampert)

one thing jolteon has over zapdos is that jolteon is not walled by rotom, in fact, rotom can't switch in on jolteon because of the fear of shadow ball
on the other hand, zapdos takes care of magnezone better than jolteon does because of heat wave, so it balances out

the choice is up to you as to which poke you would use, remember though, since zapdos is legendary, it cannot have 31 IVs across the board, make sure you change it's attack IV, personally i feel zapdos helps your team more than jolteon does

on latias, change wish to calm mind, you're team isn't meant for stalling at all and breloom can absorb any status (if you predict correctly, just make sure he's seen the fight first though), it'll increase her bulkiness and allow her to accomplish what you were passing off to her with jolteon beforehand, but it does a better job

you really don't need a spinner as jolteon and latias are the only ones who take neutral damage from SR, the other 4 resist it, so a spinner is not really a major concern

spikes can become a nuisance though, toxic spikes are no big deal, you have only jolteon and swampert need to look out for those (someone correct me on this, can heatran, lucario, and breloom "absorb" the toxic spikes, if so, then just switch them in on the toxic spikes)

looking at your team, you have a pretty big ground weakness as only latias and breloom are switch-ins to earthquake (breloom can take the hit, he recovers twice of what leftovers would making him more bulky than he should be)

subtran is slow, you have to be careful switching him in, his quad weakness to ground is bad since earthquake is such a common move, especially when both lucario and jolteon are weak to it, his weakness to fighting and water don't help either (as both are common moves too), and making him scarftran pretty much defeats the purpose of jolteon

as i look over your team for giving you tips, heatran and jolteon are your weakpoints, the sets are good but are not balancing out your team as well as you hope they would

what i suggest is replacing heatran with a water poke

any OU water poke will work fine in his place

my best replacement is vaporeon

why?
because vaporeon can pass substitutes AND use wish, two things i told you to get rid of
on top of that, she also can learn heal bell (i don't know if HGSS is put in shoddy yet, so check if you can, if not, ignore it)

so basically a good vaporeon set will look like this:
Vaporeon@leftovers/Peteya Berry
Calm/Bold (which ever one you feel is better, but Bold is preferred)
128/252/128 (HP/DEF/SPD)
Substitute
Baton Pass
Wish/Aqua Ring
Surf/Roar/Heal Bell/Acid Armor/Ice Beam/HP Electric

vapo passes off subs with >100 hp, meaning that if you face a blissey with seismic toss, the sub will still be there, also great for sending in a revenge killer who is not going for revenge (sending out jolteon at a "random time" for example)

if you run roar on this set, don't use it on jolteon, it's pointless to have 2 pokes with roar, especially when vaporeon can take 49034820 hits, also since roar makes you go last, vaporeon is not punished as hard for misusing it as jolteon would be, if you have zapdos instead, use it on vaporeon, since vapo is slow, she will most likely go 2nd anyways and also allows zapdos to run HP grass to take care of swampert

wish or aqua ring depends on which type of recovery you want, "instant" or gradual, wish usually is the superior choice due to it healing 50% at once, but aqua ring does it's job well

the final slot is entirely up to you, if heal bell is allowed (which i doubt it is) use that, heal bell support is incredible, just remember that breloom is cured of his poison if it is allowed (since it probably isn't, don't worry about it), surf gives vapo an attack so she's not completely owned by taunt, the only user of taunt that resists surf is Gyarados; gengar, electivire, dusknoir, weavile, skarmory, and azelf are neutral, the rest are weak (skarm, azelf, gengar, and weavile will take a decent chunk from vapo's surf though), roar for reasons stated many times before, acid armor if you want to pass something more than a substitute off also makes vapo more defensive, ice beam and HP electric are just other attacks you can run, just not recommended

i have the moves in the move set listed in priority order (basically, i feel that surf is better than roar)

now, if you decide to run zapdos and vapo on your team, your team is a lot bulkier, making your team classified as bulky offense (you would only have 1 completely defensive poke in vapo), as your team ranges from glass cannons to very bulky offense, not a great balance and synergy was not as good as you hoped

your team now

swampert
jolteon (subpasser)
heatran
latias (wish)
breloom
lucario

with this team, jolteon and lucario are glass cannons, heatran (his typing sucks, close combat and earthquake are one every team people create, weakening his bulkiness) and breloom are mediocre in terms of bulkiness (breloom's poison heal makes him semi-bulky) while latias and swampert are bulky offense

doesn't have the staying power you would hope for as only 2 pokes are gaurenteed to last 2 non-SE, non-boosted hits (swampert and latias obviously), also your team is very weak to ground in general while being too resistant to rock (it's not a bad thing, but the balance isn't good since most pokes who carry earthquake also carry stone edge)

making your team to this

swampert
jolteon (specs)
vaporeon
latias (calm mind over wish)
breloom
lucario

adds some bulk and creates a better synergy, balances out your ground and rock weakness/resistance, also gives you a revenge killer (since you're replacing your jolteon for my jolteon) and adding vaporeon gives the team wish support, allowing latias to be bulkier, but you do lack physical defense, you can play around with this team, it will bring success but...

i feel that a team of:

swampert
zapdos
vaporeon
latias (CM over wish)
breloom
lucario

will be your best possible team, best synergy, adds a rock weakness but it's fine when 3 of your pokes resist rock attacks and one of them even resists ground, the bulkiest of the three but lacks a revenge killer, if you want, you can replace lucario with a revenge killer (preferably weavile) or a wall breaker (infernape) but it's really not necessary as lucario is a great poke and it's up to personal preference

sorry about the novel, i was bored, but hope this helps
