OU Team Dodge the Bullet

Team Dodge the Bullet

Hello there Smogonites! Team Dodge the Bullet is based on three sweepers who cover each others weaknesses and are all resistant to Bullet Punch.

'Tis is my second RMT and after playtesting it, I've realised that it is not perfect and I'm in need of help. Anyways, here's the team at a glance...

Before we do go into detail, let's look at the building process...

First, I started off with Raikou. Despite currently being labelled a UU (a dangerous one at that), it is definitely viable in OU and is certainly capable of sweeping teams with it's 115 base Special Attack and great 115 base Speed.

Next, I decided I needed a physical sweeper. I also thought that I needed one that was immune to Ground due to Raikou's weakness. Instantly, both Salamance and Gyarados were candidates. However, I chose Gyarados due to the fact that it resists Bullet Punch and was quite bulky.

After that, I needed a revenge killer. A good one at that. I also considered trappers such as Tyranitar and Dugtrio himself. After thinking about the stigma towards Scizor, the frailness of Weavile and how easily they could be set up upon, I considered other revenge killers. Tyranitar had sandstorm so it was ruled out. Finally, I decided to use Dugtrio because it could effectively stop a pokemon from running away with Arena Trap while being fast yet strong with Choice Band.

Now, I needed a lead. I didn't really like the idea of wasting a turn setting up Stealth rock at first so I used anti-leads and stumbled upon Machamp. I used him for a long time and was content but after seeing someone use Hariyama very effectively as a lead, I HAD to use it. Unfortunately, after being swept by Salamance and Gyarados, I decided that Stealth Rock was best for the team. To stop my team from being swept by Sala and Gyara, I needed something that could stop them, force them out, weaken them or kill them. Exploding Leads such as Azelf and Metagross came to thought but that was simply too predictable. Leads with Roar or Whirlwind such as Swampert and Hariyama were ok but lacked enough bulk in my opinion. Then, I came across Uxie and he was bloody... ok. It was quite weak (attacking wise) but it did the job of getting Stealth Rock up and had Yawn & Memento.

After seeing that I didn't have enough firepower, I decided that I needed a late game sweeper. Both Empoleon and Lucario were tested and I thought that Lucario was better because Empoleon had a lack of moves with the SubPeteya variant. Also, Lucario covered the other sweepers weaknesses conveniently.

Finally, I needed a support pokemon. I thought of paralysis but thought my pokemon weren't that slow so Paralysis support was unnecessary. Sleep support was used in the form of Uxie's Yawn. Burn wasn't neccesary with Gyarado's Intimidate but I may still consider it. I thought Screens were quite important since if any 3 of my sweepers get enough boosts, they will obviously sweep so thus, screen support was chosen

Now, there were Latias, Rotom forms, Cresselia and Bronzong.
Rotom wasn't bulky enough in my opinion and Cresselia wasn't potent enough so they were out which left Latias and Bronzong. After testing them both, I decided that Bronzong was better due to it's single weakness and balanced defences.

Thus, the team was born!

Well, it's time to get into more detail...
480.png

Uxie @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Yawn
- U-turn
- Memento
- Stealth Rock

Uxie is my lead because it is able to serve as a decent lead while being to save my day or force someone out with Memento and Yawn respectively. SR is a given, U-Turn lets me scout while hitting the pokemon (weakly :/) and Memento and Yawn are my ways of dealing with pokemon that would otherwise rampage through the team.

437.png

Bronzong @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/152 Atk/8 Def/96 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Light Screen
- Explosion
- Reflect
- Earthquake

My Screener! Screens is obvious and they let my sweepers get vital boosts. EQ allows me to OHKO both Heatran and Magnezone. This is also why I always Light Screen first. Explosion allows me to deal with scary things (that have got boosts).
---
130.png

Gyarados (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Dance

I'm pretty sure everyone's been swept by Gyarados before at least once in their life and DD is why. Waterfall is for STAB and Stone Edge hit the flying types. Out of Ice Fang and Earthquake, I chose Earthquake because it deals with steels that cause problem to my team. Also, Intimidate weakens some physical attackers that can cause trouble such as opposing Gyarados and Lucairo.
---
243.png

Raikou @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Raikou is the star of my team because with a Calm Mind and with it's counters out of the way, (Tyranitar and Blissey) it WILL sweep. Thunderbolt is for STAB, Shadow Ball hits psychics and ghosts (usually Rotom and Celebi) and Hidden Power deals with Swampert and Hippowdon who would otherwise wall this team.
---
448.png

Lucario (M)
@ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Ice Punch
- Extremespeed
- Close Combat

Lucario is THE late Game Sweeper. With a SD, ExtremeSpeed is dangerous! Priority is there so I chose to use an Adamant nature. Close Combat has an amazing Base Power with STAB while Ice Punch hits mainly Dragons and Flying Types. It can also hit a Salamance stuck in Outrage and kill it.
---
51.png

Dugtrio (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk/32 Def/224 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Night Slash
- Aerial Ace
- Pursuit

As said before, Raikou can sweep with Tyranitar and Blissey out of the way, and Dugtrio helps achieve this. Tyranitar is OHKO'd and Blissey is 2HKO'd while they cannot run away. Furthermore, it can Pursuit pokemon that aren't affected by Arena Trap. Aerial Ace is for Breloom ideally but it can deal with Grass types. Night Slash hits ghosts and psychics. Furthermore, I've edited the EVs so Tyranitar is outsped by 1 point after DD.

So there's the team! Rate away!

Quite a few things I would suggest.

Firstly, nitpicking, you claimed Gyarados is 'Immune' to Bullet Punch. No.

Right, onto the team:

Lead Uxie is rather bad in OU. Almost any lead with Taunt shuts that set down. Just to show:

Azelf: Taunts. You have to switch or U-Turn, either way, rocks go up safely, and Azelf still has a decent level of HP left, more than enough to dent something, or explode.

Metagross: Momento won't bother it. It'll get rocks up regardless of what you do. If you Yawn it, it'll probobly just switch out, to cause trouble later.

Aerodactyl: Taunts you, then laughs at U-Turn with it's X4 Resist.

Swampert: Gets rocks up. With it's bulk, the sleep won't bother it tons, it'll probobly spend the rest of the battle tanking physical blows anyway, until it wakes up. Even then, it could just switch when you Yawn.

Jirachi: Good luck even attacking

Infernape: Damage it'll do depends on set... but you won't be doing anything, except forcing it out afetr Yawn/Momento.

Roserade: Enjoy your sleep

Heatran: LOLs at U-Turn. Probobly 2HKO's you... too lazy to run calcs.

Smergle: About the only thing you can do anything against... but even then, it might just throw up a sub.

Short version: Use Azelf. Gets up rocks, dies, and actually kills something, instead of just forcing a switch.

I would presume a defensive Zapdos carrying Toxic would beat your Raikou. I usually see Sub CM. You are risking status as you set up without Sub... but you don't risk Rotom/Swampert ruining the day.

Other than the frankly dreadful lead, this team seems to be OK. There are no glareing weaknesses, that stand out at me with a signboard.

I recomend ice fang over stone edge on gyara cause of the whacky accuracy and the fact that you can hit Mence and gon hard. Pretty solid team but I have to agree uxies
Are terrible leads. Maybe lead with a bronzong though then you'd need new screened

Hope inhelped

Uxie is a great lead, and it works pretty well in OU. I would suggest the trick set though

Uxie @ Choice Scarf
Impish | 252 hp / 156 def / 100 spe
Trick , Yawn , U-turn , Stealthrocks

I found this set to be a hella effective. Trick is the obvious attack, as when the opponent taunts / sets up rocks, it utterly owns them. Yawn is used after the oponent switched out his tricked lead. It makes the opponent forced to switch again, and if they stay in.. His pokemon can be used as a set up fodder. U-turn is to get some momentum, and to do some damage to some pokemon here and there.

On bronzong, I would suggest changing it to a screening Rotom-A.

Rotom-W @ Light Clay
Bold | 252 HP / 100 Def / 100 SpD / 56 Spe
Light screen , Reflect , Discharge , Hydro pump

Using this set provides your team with some much needed fighting resistance as well as a rapid spin blocker. Rotom-w is also almost as bulky as Zong, if not bulkier.

I know that Raikou is the pokemon that the team is built around, but have you ever considered a jirachi?

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Timid | 252 hp / 80 sp.atk / 176 spe
Calm mind , Substitute, Flash cannon , Thunder Bolt

It is a great pokemon to have a long side Gyarados, and I swept numerous teams using the set above.

Simply switch on an attack that jirachi resists, calm mind and sub up, and sweep. It works better than Raikou as it is harder to wall.

It can also hit a Salamance stuck in Outrage and kill it.

A Salamence's Outrage will do about >50%.

Crunch is better over Ice punch, most dragons out speed lucario anyways.

Good luck!

Happy Holidays!

Hi. i like the originality of this team, although I have some suggestions that could make it more effective. Your team does look to have some problems with Gyarados, and Rotom namely. Lucario doesn't need Ice Punch, since Gliscor runs enough speed to outpace Lucario ~71% of the time, and Salamence does a whopping 78% of the time. I want you to change Lucario's Ice Punch to Stone Edge so you lure in Gyarados and hit it hard. Gyarados is usually a safe switch-in, but it won't with you using Stone Edge.

The next thing I want you to use is a Bulky Gyarados straight from the analysis over your current set. Lucario is quite a nuisance to this team, so this Gyarados will help make an effective counter to it. Use the standard set from the analysis. Taunt will also stop last Poke stat-uppers, and stop things like opposing Gyarados from setting up on you. Gyarados also makes a great sweeper once Rotom is eliminated, which Raikou lures in because Rotom resist Thunderbolt. Raikou can then hit it hard with Shadow Ball. Maybe you can even put Thunderbolt on Uxie to help Gyarados. That's all I really know what to say, so good luck!

First, I agree with Raikaria, in saying that Uxie is a pretty terrible lead. Therefore, I'm going to try Swampert. I've already tested the Choice Scarf Uxie lead and it isn't the best to be honest.

iShedinja, I'm fairly sure that Bronzong is bulkier than your Rotom with less weaknesses and stronger defences. I think I'll still use Raikou but thank you for your suggestion of Jirachi.

Sprinkles, I'm trying the Stone Edge on Lucario and it does seem to work but I'm having mixed opinions with Bulky Gyarados. I may well use Offensive Gyarados with Wacan Berry to be honest.
