OU Team in Progress! RMT

All right guys and gals I haven't had an RMT since my first one awhile ago and I think its time for me to present to you all one of my other standard teams that has been doing well but I feel it has the potential to be better. So I want your advice.

453.png

Lucario @ Focus Sash
Inner Focus
252 Atk/4 SpD/252 Spe
Lonely
Close Combat
Crunch
Extremespeed
Counter

Now I chose Lucario as my lead, and I do like him for various reasons but I am unsure about him for a few other reasons. The positives of having my Lucario as a lead is that it surprises the opponent and catches them off guard trying to figure out his move set. I have sometimes been able to take out atleast two pokemon on my opponents team with this guy, and his typing and power also make him useful if need be in the late game. The negatives I see is that there is no room for stealth rock set up on my team which can hurt sweeping effectiveness in general sometimes. Also his weakness to fire makes him one of three pokemon on my team who are weak to this common attacking type.

121.png

Starmie @ Leftovers
Natural Cure
136 HP/156 Def/216 Spe
Timid
Rapid Spin
Recover
Thunderbolt
Surf

Now Starmie is the newest addition to this team. Its spot used to belong to Crocune however I kept getting walled by water absorb if Suicune ended up being my last pokemon with surf as its only attack. I also needed Rapid Spin Support for my team. Starmie fills Suicune's space nicely giving me the much needed Rapid Spin support and versatility I needed over more bulk from Suicune. However Starmie's electric weakness is still a problem as it is the third pokemon on my team who is weak to electric attacks.

130.png

Gyarados @ Life Orb
Intimidate
252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Jolly
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Waterfall

The standard DD Gyarados with a Jolly nature for extra speed and less power. There isn't much to say about Gyarados other than that is is a phenominal sweaper when it is allowed to set up. However its weakness to stealth rock and electric attacks hinder its switch in a bit.

248.png

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Sand Stream
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Jolly
Crunch
Stone Edge
Earthquake
Fire Punch

Scarf Tar is common in OU and I like using him a lot. Sand Stream helps pick at the HP of opposing pokemon and his massive strength is really put to good use under the speed increase from Choice Scarf. He is also resistant to common weaknesses of my team such as fire, rock, and psychic. He can be a powerful revenge killer and can take out opposing pokemon with ease with his great type coverage.

474.png

Yanmega @ Insect Plate
Tinted Lenses
4 Def/252 SpA/252 Spe
Modest
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Giga Drain
Hypnosis

Yanmega has to be my favorite member of the team. I really have an attachment to this guy. Originally he had life orb to boost his power, I didn't like Choice Specs cause I wanted versatility. But with Life Orb recoiling every turn I decided to give him Insect Plate. Insect Plate works wonders with Tinted Lenses as it makes his Bug Buzz attack a monster. It deals massive damage and with Tinted Lenses it even dents pokemon that resist him. The other moves are for coverage and hypnosis even though it has shaky accuracy is there to put to sleep a potential threat.

214.png

Heracross @ Flame Orb
Guts
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Hasty
Megahorn
Close Combat
Facade
Shadow Claw

Heracross is an interesting member of my team. However what strengths he brings to the team, he brings as many weaknesses. His flame orb and Guts boost his power to high levels and he has decent type coverage which works very well. However he is difficult to get in and stay alive, he shares many commons weaknesses to my other team members especially his weakness to fire, he also competes for spots on the field with other members of my team. Facade may be extremely powerful along with his STAB attacks but is his power worth it for his defensive flaws?

Alright guys this is my team, I really wanna hear your advice

Change Lucarios nature to Adamant, you lose the minus defense. Heracross replace shadow claw with night slash for better coverage and extra power.

Also I would highly recommend switching yanmega for LO shaymin for several reasons, first off you lose the huge weakness to stealth rocks and also you have a pokemon to sponge status move due to it's ability.

Shaymin@Life orb
-Earth power
-Hidden power Ice/Fire
-Seed flare
-Air slash/rest/Leech seed
252sp.att/252speed/4hp

Hidden power ice might be the better option here to catch life orbed flygon and dd nite off guard.

Good luck with your team

If you want to keep Yanmaga run it as an anti lead over Lucario and give it HP Ground. Currently your team has huge issues with a Sub Tran which pretty much walls Yanmega and can also set up on Tyranitar as well. Starmie cannot take repeated Earth Powers and Gyarados gets crippled by Toxic.

If you do take my advice and run Yanmage over Lucario then I suggest adding a Shuca Heatran to your team. It sets up SR which your team lacks, and can also take the fire attacks which your team attracts. with Shuca berry it can take an earthquake if need be.

Have a Nice Day!

I, personally, would switch your Heracross to my favorite Fightin' Fungi, Breloom. The set is:

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Poison Heal
252atk/252speed/4hp
-Focus Punch
-Seed Bomb
-Spore
-Earthquake or Substitute

I personally use SubPuncher, it allows me to sleep something if I survive the initial hit. Then, I sub up, focus punch it to death, or Seed Bomb. If the next poke destroys my sub before I sleep it, I just set it up again and focus punch all of their team untill they pull out something REALLY bulky and non-water. EQ, however, will give you great type coverage.

Hello,

This seems to be a fairly decent team at the moment, but I do have a few recommendations that I feel will benefit you.

Notable Threats

  • Offensive Suicune
Starmie's Thunderbolt may seem to be an effective way to deal with Suicune, but the lack of power due to not running the Life Orb set is a game-breaker in this situation. Rapid Spinner Starmie's Thunderbolt will only deal 35.7% - 42.1% to the standard Offensive Suicune, and considering you will often be attacking after it has accumulated a Calm Mind boost, the damage will more likely be along the lines of 24% - 28.7%. After a single Calm Mind boost, Suicune will single-handedly 2HKO your team, making it a quite a major threat.

  • SubSplit Gengar
Gengar causes quite a few problems for several teams, but the SubSplit variety is of notable concern. Your best answer to it is Tyranitar, but the use of Substitute means that Gengar can either safely switch out behind the Sub or get a chance at a OHKO'ing Focus Blast. Gengar's high attacking stats and frequent use of Life Orb ensure that it will also deal heavy damage to your team members.

Suggestions

  • Try a Metagross over Lucario
This is rather difficult for me to say, as I appreciate the creativity behind using Lucario as a lead, but I feel that it doesn't function effectively in its position. The lack of Stealth Rock is also of major concern, as this entry hazard is necessary on all teams.

After going through a list of good leads, I feel that Lum Metagross would probably be the best and most similar replacement for Lucario. One great thing about Metagross on this team is that it can form a lead combo with Starmie (featured in the Smog) and beat just about any common lead. Therefore, I would suggest using Starmie in the lead position as a Life Orb user, with Metagross in the second slot to set up Stealth Rock. Here are the two sets posted below:

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

Metagross @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Atk / 16 Spe
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
- Bullet Punch
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Stealth Rock

This will allow you to have a favorable matchup against just about any of the top leads. I also recommend reading the Smog article in which this combo is featured, as this will allow you to learn how to deal with opposing leads. Explosion will likely be a better choice on Metagross over Meteor Mash for your team, because it gives you a way to take out any bulkier threats.

  • Consider a replacement for Heracross
As a general rule, I dislike suggesting replacements for team members unless I feel that it is completely necessary. In this situation, you are absolutely correct regarding Heracross' defensive flaws, and its rather slow Speed stat is also a major limiting factor in its effectiveness. I would replace it with something to help cover up any remaining weaknesses, such as a revenge killer like Scarf Jirachi. It has access to the Elemental Punches, and is a great Pokemon to use overall. A moveset of Iron Head, Fire Punch, and Thunder Punch will give you a way to revenge kill DD Tyranitar, SD Lucario, and Gyarados, respectively, and Trick can be used in the last slot to cripple bulky stat-uppers like Suicune or Kingdra.

Good luck with your team!

So I am gonna try the starmie lead with metagross in second, and I am gonna try with Heracross being replaced by a life orb genger. Tell me what you think

Breloom doesn't learn Earthquake.

I can see how an LO Starmie could be troublesome for this team. Unless Gyarados gets a boost in, it out-speeds everyone.

Hydro Pump OHKOes Lucario and Tyranitar. Thunderbolt OHKOes Yanmega, Starmie, and Gyarados. The occasional Psychic OHKOes Heracross.

Faladran's solutions will definitely help. With his suggestion your Starmie will speed-tie other Starmie. This provides an unreliable but potential check. An LO Starmie can't OHKO Metagross, but Meta can't do much back. However, giving Meta Thunderpunch would provide a way to deal with them.

This team looks pretty solid, but watch out for opposing Starmie. Good luck!
