Okay, so lately I have been "trying" to get into the D/P/Pt generation. Unlike the last generation, it seems like defensive teams have lost a lot of credit, and I'm having trouble transitioning to a more offensively-oriented metagame.
I haven't tested this team yet, but I have gone through a threat list using all of the OU pokemon.
Team at a glance (sorry, couldn't find small icons):
Tyranitar
Vaporeon
Lucario
Latias
Gliscor
Rotom-W
So here goes:
Tyranitar (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 164 HP/252 Atk/92 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Tail
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Crunch
I was kinda unsure about leading with this guy, but none of my other pokemon seem to be good leads either.
Anyway, pretty standard fare here: he's a heavy attacker, pursuiting potential problems for other teammates and using aqua tail to soften Gliscor and Hippowdon for Lucario later.
Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 188 HP/252 Def/68 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Surf
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic
Vaporeon functions as a bulky water and provides wish support to Tyranitar, Lucario, and Rotom-W, all of which have no recovery moves. I couldn't find much utility in ice beam (dragons will usually kill vaporeon anyway), and Rotom can counter Gyarados, so I decided on toxic for Dusknoir and other bulky waters.
Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Extremespeed
- Stone Edge
This guy is probably going to be the cleaner of the game. He might also wreak some havoc early game when I switch in on CBTar's pursuit or one of his STAB moves. I decided on stone edge because Gliscor will always outspeed me regardless with Adamant, and I want to keep power.
Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/112 Def/32 Spd/112 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Latias counters specific pokemon and provides reflect support to the physical-heavy metagame. HP Fire helps against Scizor, Metagross, Breloom, and possibly Lucario.
I have a feeling that I can use a different moveset (calm mind) or replace this with something else. But that's for you guys to decide. :)
Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP/40 Def/216 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Roost
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
Another physical wall, Gliscor sets up SR for my team and provides a check against Lucario, Tyranitar, and heavy fighters. Stone edge makes sure that I'm not helpless against incoming Gyarados or Salamence, and Gliscor already has enough coverage against Heracross even without Aerial Ace.
Rotom-w @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/168 Def/88 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Will-o-wisp
- Hydro Pump
- Light Screen
The rapid spin blocker and Bulky water/Ground counter. Will-o-wisp allows me to cripple things like Scizor and Tyranitar, and Light Screen helps against Empoleon/buffering special attacks from things like Jirachi for my Tyranitar; besides, Rotom-W doesn't really have much business to be fighting Gengar anyway.
Threat list: I have provided one here: http://www.box.net/shared/lgy7jkzjnu
Looking at the threat lists, I have realized that I lack a reliable counter to Gengar (focus blast), Smeargle, Ninjask, and Kingdra, and have sketchy counters to Salamence and Weavile. I don't know how to address this problem either.
