TEH DRAGONITE POWER: Team around the Epic 1st Gen Dragon
Hey everyone. This is my 2nd OU team I'm posting, after no one responded to my other one
.
So one day, in a far off land in the middle of nowhere, I decided to make a team revolving around Dragonite. I mean, why not? With the release of the new ability MultiScale, it it is a very bulky offensive sweeper. It is NEVER OHKO'ed, even with a very powerful ice attack. Also, it has a good priority in the form of ExtremeSpeed.
The team is doing well, but I'm sure you can help it do better with suggestions!

Deoxys-S @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Superpower
The premiere Hazardmon for Gen V. Even though Hazardmon got severely less use after Team Preview came out, Deoxys-S is an exception. It can outrun anything in the game - no Taunt from common leads, bar Thundurus, can outrun Deoxys and prevent a Stealth Rock. Generally, given the opponent does not Taunt me, I always get at least 1 layer of Spikes up to go with that. Everything is standard Deoxys.
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 108 HP / 252 SAtk / 148 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder Wave
- Pain Split
Acts a variety of roles - crippler, scouter, tank, and somewhat of a sweeper. So admittedly, I'm not very creative on EV's. I took a standard Rotom and added 4 speed, to outrun all common 244's and various other Rotom-W's. Rotom-W has godly typing, and Grass is its only weakness due to Levitate, which is heavily walled by Dragonite. Rotom-W has pretty good Special Attack, standing at 339 with a Modest Nature. Pain Split is probably not the best recovery move, but it works wonders against the Blissey's Rotom often draw out. Volt Switch is an overall good STAB/scouting move, searching for an appropriate counter. Thunder Wave does wonders for Dragonite's rather mediocre speed.
Gengar (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Disable
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
Like Rotom, it acts a variety of roles. Substitute and Disable drive pokemon nuts, and can act as a good WallBreaker, as Disable can prevent recovery. With amazing speed and decent coverage, Gengar is a good sweeper also. Gengar WILL force many switches with Disable, therefore amplifying Deoxys-S's use once again. I use Black Sludge over Leftovers as a defense against Trick.
Espeon (M) @ Light Clay
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ground]
The EV spread gives Espeon maximum bulk and speed. Magic Bounce is an amazing ability, completely removing the need of a Rapid Spinner. Predicting on a Whimsicott, Ferrothorn, Blissey, Bronzong, Deoxys-S, Hippowdon, and Tentacruel, to name a few, it will keep off non-weather residual damage off completely. Light Screen and Reflect are good support to the team, and work wonders in conjunction with MultiScale, effectively quadrupling Dragonite's defense. Psychic and Hidden Power Ground work well for coverage, utilizing Espeon's decent 295 Sp. Atk.
Infernape (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
My 2nd Physical Sweeper. Suggested by assassinfred. He checks many of the dragons that I'm weak to - Hydreigon, Kyurem, Salamence, and Dragonite. (Lati@s checked by Gengar). He has good attack and speed, and after a swords dance STAB Close Combat / Flare Blitz will OHKO almost any unresisted pokemon. Standard EV's
Dragonite (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- ExtremeSpeed
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- Waterfall
Yes, I did make Dragonite's picture slightly bigger than everyone else's. It totally deserves it. Dragonite, with MultiScale and 91/95/100 defenses, can take almost any unboosted hit. Also, with a 134 Base Attack Choice Band, it can kill anything not resisting its STAB Outrage in an OHKO. Fire Punch and Waterfall can OHKO those resisting Outrage. ExtremeSpeed makes it a very powerful revenge killer.
A Moment of Respect for Former Pokemon
Conkeldurr ran Drain Punch, Payback, Stone Edge, and Mach Punch, holding a Flame Orb to maximize Guts and prevent other status. It ran Adamant 252 Attack and 252 HP to maximize Attack and bulk. The remaining EV's went into Defense.
Threat List
Sadly, I couldn't copy and paste the threat list from Haunter's post due to image limit, so I'll just list out Problems I've encountered.
Color Coding:
Red = Severe
Orange = Annoying
Yellow = Fixable
Blue = Mild
Thundurus: This thing, with prankster, can Taunt Deoxys-S, preventing him from Stealth Rocking, and its typing makes it only weak to Ice and Rock. His Prankster ability lets him make a boosted priority Nasty Plot, and due to his Thundurus being BARELY faster than all my main attacking pokemon, he can sweep me utterly from there.
Vaporeon: His specially defensive bulk makes Rotom-W almost completely unable to kill him. The only thing that can OHKO this thing is a boosted Infernape Close Combat, but it's weak to Surf.
Zapdos: Zapdos has extreme bulk all around. Furthermore, like Thundurus, he has neutralism to all my attacks except Stone Edge. His 125 Sp. Attack sometimes cause problems for my team, and its movepool makes it unpredictable.
Tentacruel: Similar to Vaporeon. However, he's more predictable. Almost every time he comes in, he attempts to Toxic Spikes me, making Espeon an easy switch in. This is the reason he's not an Orange.
Ninetales: A Sunny Day Team has extremely high speeds, sometimes allowing them to overrun my team with high power STAB SolarBeams, or Sleep Powdering me. Luckily, this isn't too severe due to the Sleep Clause and Dragonite's 4x resistance to Grass type moves.
~ I really need an Ice type move.

So first, I started off with the basic pokemon - Dragonite.

Then, I thought about how something to prevent entry hazards on my side, which would ruin MultiScale - Magic Bounce Espeon works.
[IMG]http://www.thepikaclub.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/Espeon.gif[/IMG]
I wanted to use a hazard lead, as Dragonite forces a lot of switches. Deoxys-S is the pokemon for the job.
[IMG]http://www.thepikaclub.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/Espeon.gif[/IMG]
I needed a Spin Blocker, a Wall breaker, and an annoyer. One of my long returning favorites, Disable Gengar fits the description.
[IMG]http://www.thepikaclub.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/Espeon.gif[/IMG]
At this point, I noticed my only physical attacker was Dragonite. I needed a Fighting type to get rid of those annoying steels that completely wall me, so I chose Conkeldurr.
[IMG]http://www.thepikaclub.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/Espeon.gif[/IMG] [IMG]http://www.thepikaclub.co.uk/dex/images/pokemon/icon/Conkeldurr.gif[/IMG]
For type coverage, I needed Electric, Water, and Fire last. Rotom-W fits the Electric and Water coverage. Also, it is a sturdy wall and scouter too.

Lastly, for that Fire Type Coverage, and for the sake of a faster fighting type, I replaced Conkeldurr with Blaziken.
[IMG]http://www.thepikaclub.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/Espeon.gif[/IMG] [IMG]http://thepikaclub.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/Blaziken.gif[/IMG]
Shortly after, various people informed me Blaziken is Uber. I changed to another Fire / Fighting, one that can check my weaknesses: Infernape (suggested by assassinfred)
