Hello everyone, and welcome to my newest UU RMT! Recently in UU I've been trying out some lesser-used mons in terms of viability such as Noivern and Durant. One of my newest experiments was trying out Kingdra on this team you see here. I decided to use Kingdra on a Rain team to make use of it's ability Swift Swim, and his powerful Dual STABs and walbreaking capabilities. Overall, the team has won a lot of matches and even won a roomtour for me (!!!!), and while it hasn't peaked too high (Still in 1300s xD), I do think that with some effort on laddering, I can potentially peak pretty high with the team! So, I present to you, one of the coolest teams I've ever built, Overcast!

230.png
I started off by building around Kingdra, the thing I was building around (lol). With his awesome Dual STABs and great speed under Rain, I decided to build a dedicated Rain team around him.
230.png

260-mega.png
After deciding to build a Rain team, I added a core of Tornadus and Mega Swampert, a core which I believe is essential to Rain teams as they add a reliable Rain setter and a great sweeper, with an Electric immunity as well.
230.png
641.png
260-mega.png

I added Froslass as a lot of Kingdra's checks and counters are vulnerable to Spikes damage, and Froslass also adds utility in potentially depleting a threat from the opponent's team with Destiny Bond and Taunt to stop Defog.

Focus Sash Alakazam was added to revenge kill sweepers like Gyarados or cripple them with Thunder Wave. It can also clean up late-game with it's awesome Speed.

I wanted another Rain abuser, but I also wanted Stealth Rock, so I decided to go with Kabutops, who is a major threat with his amazing Dual STABs, priority, and also can set up SR in a pinch. (Like when a Mega Beedrill Protects on you)

The Team:

Juvia (Kingdra) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
- Rain Dance
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Surf

The Pokemon I built the team around, Kingdra proves to be an awesome Rain sweeper or wallbreaker thanks to Swift Swim boosting his Speed to crazy levels, his high power Dual STABs that provide good coverage altogether, and having decent bulk so he can set up his own Rain Dances at times. Hydro Pump hits really hard under Rain, even denting resists like Suicune and Shaymin. Draco Meteor is a powerful secondary STAB move that provides great neutral coverage alongside Hydro Pump, and Surf is mainly for cleaning up late-game when you don't need Hydro to kill stuff. Overall, Kingdra is a really underrated mon in UU, and I'm glad to have it on the team! The 216 Speed EVs is to outspeed Scarf Infernape under the Rain.

Storm (Tornadus) @ Damp Rock
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rain Dance
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
- Taunt

Tornadus is a godsend for Rain teams as it's the best Rain setter thanks to Prankster prioritizing Rain Dance, and it's ability to Taunt walls and abuse Rain with 100% accuracy Hurricanes. I usually use it as a momentum grabber after Froslass has died, so I can get up Rain Dance as soon as possible, and to do massive damage to the opposing team. I've actually seen Tornadus sweep entire teams a couple of times, just goes to show that even a supporting mon can do work. I use Focus Blast in the third slot over U-Turn as the team can struggle a lot with Empoleon, and it also lures in Heliolisk and if it hits, OHKOs it.

swampert-mega.gif
swampertite.png

DO U EVEN LIFT (Swampert-Mega) @ Swampertite
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Mega Swampert is an important component on Rain teams, as it adds a Rain sweeper/wallbreaker, an immunity to Electric moves, and also a nice offensive RD setter with it's great bulk. I went Adamant over Jolly because I wanted a bit more power to crush opposing teams easier over the extra Speed that Jolly gets. Overall, it's a pretty standard set on a pretty standard mon, but with it's great power and utility it adds to the team, Mega Swampert is a welcome addition.

focussash.png
478.gif
focussash.png

Dead Inside (Froslass) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Destiny Bond
- Taunt
- Icy Wind

Froslass may not be a Rain sweeper or Rain setter (Although it DOES learn Rain Dance), but it provides a great amount of utility to the team by being a reliable Spikes setter, which really helps wear down stuff like bulky waters for the team to capitalize on. Taunt also helps block Defog and Toxics, and prevents walls from using their supportive moves. Destiny Bond is perhaps Froslass' greatest tool at pressure the opposing team, as it can help deplete a threat from the game so the rest of the team can do their jobs easier. Icy Wind is so Froslass isn't Taunt Bait herself, and also helps pressure mons like Crobat and Mega Beedrill by slowing them down. Overall, Froslass is a great mon on the team, and I'm happy to have it on here!

focussash.png
065.gif
focussash.png

ALLAHU PSYCHIC (Alakazam) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Dazzling Gleam
- Focus Blast
- Thunder Wave

Focus Sash Alakazam serves an important role on the team, revenge killing set-up sweepers like Gyarados and providing a better matchup against offense teams in general, as well as crippling stuff with it's Yellow Magic. It also can clean up late-game with it's amazing Special Attack and Speed, and good coverage as well. Focus Blast is used over Shadow Ball as I wanted to hit Steel types like Empoleon and Mega Aggron hard, and frail Psychic types like Espeon still take like 40% from Psyshock. Overall, Alakazam is a welcome addition to this team, and I'm glad to have it on!

lifeorb.png
141.gif
lifeorb.png

Crabs (Kabutops) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet
- Stealth Rock / Swords Dance

You might think of Kabutops as "Some NU mon that isn't good in UU", but you are quite wrong. While Kabutops isn't good in UU outside of Rain, it serves as a powerful attacker in Rain on this team with it's amazing Attack and high power STABs. Aqua Jet is also great to pick off weakened mons like Mega Beedrill and Infernape at the end of the game. I usually send out Kabutops early on to wallbreak, and sometimes late-game to clean up. One of the main reasons I used Kabutops was it's access to Stealth Rock, which my team didn't have at that point, and while it isn't very good at setting it up, it can set it up at times such as when a Mega Beedrill Protects to stall out Rain turns. However, if you want a better way to break through bulky waters and walls like Cresselia, Swords Dance is a good option. Overall, Kabutops is an underdog in UU, but it certainly has merit on this team, and I'm glad to have it on here!

Now that I have finished telling you about the team, time to show the threats to the team and the Importable so you can steal use the team!

130.png
Gyarados: I hate this thing very, very much, but I must say that it threatens this team immensely. It can set up Dragon Dances on Mega Swampert and proceed to destroy the team, but there are quite a few obstacles standing in it's way. Kabutops outspeeds Gyarados in Rain even after +1 and can proceed to murder it with Stone Edge, Alakazam can Thunder Wave it, Tornadus and Froslass can Taunt it, and Kingdra hits it hard with Draco Meteor, but still, fuck Gyarados.
245.png
Bulky Waters: Not the biggest threat to the team, but Scald is a broken move and Suicune can wall Mega Swampert and Kingdra if it's boosted. Taunt does help cripple these though, and Spikes and Stealth Rock damage help wear them down enough for the Rain sweepers to outlive them.
233.png
Walls and Status: Walls like Porygon2 and Cresselia don't like taking Rain-boosted attacks, but they can live them and potentially cripple one of the Swift Swimmers with a status ailment, mainly Thunder Wave. However, they can get overwhelmed by Taunt and the wallbreakers that the team has.

Hey man, cool looking rain team n_n. I just a few small recommendations but that's pretty much it!
  • I'd recommend using Rain Dance Lead Azelf over Froslass. Though I get Spikes are pretty nice for this team, I feel that an extra rain setter + Stealth Rocker (esp with Damp Rock) could prove to be very effective for this team. It also doesn't have you heavily relying on Tornadus to get long rain up early. Here's the set I'd like to recommend, its pretty much just standard Lead Zelf set, so yeah. It also doesn't lose momentum with Explosion so that's always nice considering you only have a limited amount of time with Rain.
    azelf.gif

    Azelf @ Damp Rock
    Ability: Levitate
    EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
    Naive Nature
    - Stealth Rock
    - Taunt
    - Rain Dance
    - Explosion

Alternatively if you still wanted Spikes on your team you could opt for using Accelgor, which has access to Rain Dance, Spikes, and Final Gambit to prevent it from losing rain turns, but its up to you!

  • Last little suggestion, but I'd recommend using Ice Beam or Dragon Pulse over Rain Dance on Kingdra, as if you you're forced to use Draco Meteor to kill something, you really lose momentum by getting to -2.
But yeah, that's about it! Hope you consider my recommendations and good luck with your team

sup Brandon n_n great team bro i love using sash zam on weather offense, very helpful indeed. im not into rating but since u have dedicated rain setters, would be wise to use Ice Beam > RD on Kingdra and Power Up Punch > RD on Mega Swampert. PuP helps Mega Pert's 2HKOs become OHKOs in a single turn, making those Damp Rock Rain turns deadly for any opponent.

Hey BrandonBeast, cool team you have here. The raters above have already given you a couple of solid suggestions, but I'd like to provide a bit more input to hopefully improve your team even further!

  • I would definitely go with the above suggestion to replace Froslass with Lead Azelf. On a hyper offensive team such as this, you don't want to waste turns setting up Stealth Rock, especially not with one of your sweepers. Azelf provides you with a ton of utility on top of Stealth Rock, with access to fast Taunt and Rain Dance to take some pressure off of Tornadus. However, I'd suggest running a bulkier spread of 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252+ Spe. Since you're running Explosion mainly as a means to get a rain sweeper in for free, the damage output lost isn't a huge factor. The bulk, however, can help you survive certain attacks and allow you to get up hazards or rain in more situations. With no bulk or Focus Sash, Azelf is prone to being OHKO'd by Scarf Mienshao, Mega Sceptile, and LO Alakazam, among others. With the HP investment, however, Azelf has a much better chance of setting up rocks or rain, and this puts you in a much better position off the start of a match.
________in short,

  • Bulky waters definitely annoy this team. Suicune, as you've stated, can quite easily beat your rain sweepers, or at the very least stall out rain turns. Milotic is potentially even more annoying for you to face, as it has access to reliable recovery and does not need to set up to take on Kingdra due to its higher special bulk. I don't see Kabutops adding much to your team now that you have a reliable rocker and definitely think it's the most expendable pokemon at this point, so I would suggest changing it to Life Orb Heliolisk. While Heliolisk is normally pretty underwhelming, it is very effective under rain. The ability to fire off accurate Thunders helps compensate for the mediocre SpA, and the passive recovery from Dry Skin greatly improves your staying power. Volt Switch can also provide you with a safe switch-in to a rain sweeper, which is always nice.
________in short,

  • Lastly, I'd like to second Shiba's suggestion to replace Rain Dance with Dragon Pulse on Kingdra. This provides you with a spammable Dragon STAB attack that does not force you to switch every time you use it.
With that in mind, I believe you have yourself a really fun and effective team. I hope you try out my suggestions! Good luck with everything.
