Pyukumuku (QC 2/3) (GP 0/2)

[OVERVIEW]

Pyukumuku is a solid Unaware wall that uses its robust defensive stats and expansive support movepool to reinforce stall teams by trapping its foes and slowly taking them down. Unaware allows it to effectively check dangerous setup sweepers like Belly Drum Azumarill and Dragon Dance Salamence and Kommo-o. It can also check bulkier boosters like Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro. Access to moves like Block, Spite, and Soak combined with Toxic give Pyukumuku a very unique niche in trapping and eliminating otherwise problematic bulky foes like Celesteela. It can also trap and eliminate certain foes on opposing stall teams like Amoonguss. Additionally, its natural bulk and access to Recover can be used to check and scout common foes like Keldeo and Lycanroc-D. Unfortunately, Pyukumuku is completely passive, and Pokemon like Hatterene or Substitute Keldeo or Primarina will completely shut it down while getting free set up opportunities. Pyukumuku needs substantial support, as being poisoned significantly hinders its defensive role as a trapper without Rest. Additionally, Pyukumuku needs help handling most Pokemon with super effective STAB attacks like Thundurus-T and Zarude. Quagsire is often the more standard pick for an Unaware staller, as it also checks set up sweepers like Azumarill but also has Electric immunity, is less passive, and can more effectively handle Pokemon like Hatterene and Tentacruel. Pyukumuku, however, has a better matchup versus common foes like Keldeo and Celesteela. Additionally, Pyukumuku's high Special Defense stat allow it to withstand Grass-type attacks from Amoonguss and Tangrowth, something Quagsire cannot do, while also potentially trapping them.

[SET COMMENTS]

Block and Toxic are the two main moves that establish Pyukumuku's ability to trap and wear down its foe. Recover is the primary recovery option, as it allows Pyukumuku to repeatedly take hits from nearly all Pokemon without super effective attacks. Rest is also an option to allow Pyukumuku to remove its status and perform as a better stallbreaker. Soak is used to allow Pyukumuku to use Toxic on any Steel-type or Poison-type like Celesteela, Galarian Slowbro, or Amoonguss once trapped. This also removes the foe's STAB bonus from their attacks, rendering enemies likes Amoonguss and Tangrowth significantly less effective against it. Spite is an option over Soak if Pyukumuku's goal is to PP stall its opponent once trapped. This strategy is particularly useful against foes likes RestTalk Galarian Moltres, as it forces it to waste its Rest and Sleep Talk PP and prevents it from stallbreaking Pyukumuku's team, but Pyukumuku will use up much of its own PP in doing so, making it difficult to accomplish this multiple times per battle. Leftovers is the primary item option to aid Pyukumuku's recovery, but Heavy-Duty Boots prevents breakers like Keldeo from being able to put more pressure on Pyukumuku with hazard chip. A Bold nature with maximum Defense investment ensures Pyukumuku can consistently check most set up sweepers like Azumarill and Dragon Dance Salamence.

Pyukumuku primarily fits on certain stall archetypes, as it offers a better matchup against opposing stall teams than Quagsire, and also handles Amoonguss and Zygarde-10% more effectively. A cleric like Chansey or Umbreon is much appreciated to consistently remove Toxic. Both of these can also check certain threats to Pyukumuku, such as Substitute Primarina or Necrozma. Pyukumuku can in turn check offensive threats to these Pokemon like Choice Specs Keldeo. Pyukumuku can get worn down by hazards without Heavy-Duty Boots, so a hazard clearer like defensive Salamence is a good option, and Salamence can appreciate Pyukumuku checking Belly Drum Azumarill as well. Since it relies heavily on its item, a Pokemon that can absorb a Knock Off like Amoonguss or Buzzwole is a great compliment. These Pokemon can also check opposing offensive Grass-types like Zarude. Since Pyukumuku cannot trap Ghost-types, its team needs a consistent answer to Aegislash. Chansey can help absorb Aegislash's Toxic and Shadow Balls, while a Specially Defensive Amoonguss can take any Aegislash hit and retaliate with Foul Play.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A specially defensive Pyukumuku can be used over the defensive variant if the team already has sufficient answers to physical attackers. However, Pyukumuku still gets 2HKOed by Thundurus, and can no longer check Keldeo's Secret Sword.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ghost-Types**: Pyukumuku cannot trap Ghost-type Pokemon like Aegislash and Chandelure, invalidating its trapping role. Aegislash in particular is very troublesome as it can avoid being Toxic'd, and can use Toxic on Pyukumuku.

**Substitute Users**: Any Pokemon that can put up a Substitute will render Pyukumuku useless as it can no longer Block or Toxic these foes. Many of these foes, such as Primarina or Keldeo, can then proceed to set up for free as Pyukumuku is forced to switch out.

**Hatterene**: Magic Bounce prevents Pyukumuku from touching Hatterene at all. Since Block is bounceable, Pyukumuku can actually end up trapping itself if Hatterene switches on the Block.

**Electric-types**: Pyukumuku cannot withstand powerful Electric attacks from foes like Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, and Raikou. They can also simply Volt Switch out to avoid being trapped.

**Offensive Grass-types**: Zarude and Tapu Bulu are powerful Grass-type attackers that will deal tremendous damage to Pyukumuku, forcing it to switch out to avoid a KO. Zarude can also pivot out with U-turn to avoid being trapped. Roserade can safely switch in on Pyukumuku, as it cannot be poisoned unless Soaked and ignores Leaf Storm power drops due to Unaware.

**Trick Users**: A Pokemon like Jirachi, Rotom-W, or Chandelure can Trick a Choice Scarf to Pyukumuku and render it useless for the remainder of battle.

**Necrozma**: Necrozma with Photon Geyser and either Meteor Beam or Dragon Dance will be able to pierce through Unaware and take down Pyukumuku if allowed to set up. Haxorus can also accomplish a similar feat with Mold Breaker, though it is less relevant.

  • Recover is the primary recovery option, though Rest can be used at times if Pyukumuku's teammates lack reliable status healing.

  • Pyukumuku's ability to trap and kill its foe gives it a solid matchup against opposing stall teams as well, as many of the aforementioned Pokemon that make good teammates, like Chansey, Amoonguss, and Umbreon, also make good targets for Pyukumuku to trap. this doesn't seem like something that would be in the team options section, maybe fit it in the overview instead

A specially defensive Pyukumuku can be used over the defensive variant if the team already has sufficient answers to physical attackers. However, Pyukumuku still takes over 50% damage from a Thunderbolt from Thundurus, and can no longer check Keldeo's Secret Sword, making this variant less reliable.

Innards Out can be used to surprise its foe and take down an unsuspecting Pokemon like Zarude. This is very tacky though, and Pyukumuku generally does not want to sacrifice itself when it still has substantial HP. too gimmicky

**Necrozma and Hatterene Set Up Sweeping Pokemon that Ignore Unaware**: Necrozma with Dragon Dance and Photon Geyser will be able to pierce through Unaware and take down Pyukumuku, though it dislikes taking a Toxic. Haxorus can also accomplish a similar feat with Mold Breaker and Swords Dance. (SD Haxorus isnt a set). talk about Hatterene instead

[OVERVIEW]
  • Pyukumuku is a solid Unaware tank wall that uses its robust defensive stats and expansive support movepool to reinforce certain stall or semi-stall teams by trapping its foes and slowly taking them down. Pyukumuku should really not be used on semi-stall teams since they're the kind that don't want as much passivity as Pyukumuku or Quagsire force in favor of more offensive presence or speed. You have more room to justify Quagsire cause its electric immune, but Pyukumuku just doesn't cut it. 'Tank' also implies Pyukumuku can deal strong direct damage but it doesn't have any damaging moves outside of counter and mirror coat.
  • Unaware allows it to effectively check certain dangerous set-up setup sweepers like Belly Drum Azumarill and Dragon Dance Salamence. It can also check bulkier boosters like Calm Mind Galarian Slowbro.
  • Access to moves like Block, Spite, and Soak combined with Toxic give it Pyukumuku a very unique niche in trapping and eliminating otherwise problematic bulky foes like Celesteela.
  • Pyukumuku's ability to trap and kill its foe also gives it a solid matchup against opposing stall teams, as Pokemon like Chansey, Amoonguss, and Umbreon make good targets for Pyukumuku to trap. It's better to transition with Pyukumuku's more unique qualities after introducing how its an unaware wall. You could also condense these two points together by explaining how these qualities make Pyukumuku an effective stallbreaker. However, I wouldn't use Chansey as an example because it can offset poison with teleport or aromatherapy / heal bell and Umbreon feels a bit off since Pyukumuku doesn't want to take Toxic itself without Rest which is a only a mention so far so use something else on stall like Nihilego.
  • Its natural bulk and access to Recover can be used to check and scout both physical and special attacks from many common foes like Keldeo and Lycanroc-D.
  • Access to moves like Block, Spite, and Soak combined with Toxic give it a very unique niche in trapping and eliminating otherwise problematic bulky foes like Celesteela.

  • Pyukumuku is completely passive, and a Pokemon like Hatterene or Substitute Keldeo or Primarina will completely shut it down while getting free set up opportunities.
  • Pyukumuku needs substantial support, as being Poisoned poisoned significantly hinders it, while most Pokemon with Super Effective super effective attacks like Thundurus and Zarude can easily take it down.
  • Quagsire is often the more standard pick for an Unaware staller, as it also checks set up sweepers like Azumarill, is less passive, and can more effectively handle Pokemon like Hatterene and Tentacruel. Pyukumuku, however, has a unique set of trapping moves that can help eliminate bulky and problematic threats such as Amoonguss, Keldeo, and Celesteela. You already talk about the trapping so just say it has a better matchup against them. I'd also make note of Quagsire's electric immunity as something it has over Pyuk
  • make some sort of allusion somewhere about its higher special bulk and double weakness to grass moves as opposed to Quagsire's quadruple weakness since that does come into play against Amoonguss and Tangrowth.

Paragraph 1

  • Block and Toxic are the two main moves that establish Pyukumuku's ability to trap and take down its foe by wearing them down with Toxic.
  • Recover is the primary recovery option, though Rest can be used at times if Pyukumuku's teammates lack reliable status healing. This sort of reasoning doesn't really fit why you would use rest. Rest helps Pyukumuku stallbreak better because you don't have to risk opposing toxics and conserve pp.
  • Soak is used to eliminate any Toxic immunities to allow Pyukumuku to debilitate any Steel-type or Poison-type like Celesteela, Galarian Slowbro, or Amoonguss once trapped. this reads rather awkwardly, just say something along the lines of "Soak renders Poison and Steel-types such as X, Y, and Z vulnerable to Toxic after being trapped". Also mention that it also hinders the opponent's offensive power by removing their STAB
  • Spite is an option over Soak if Pyukumuku's goal is to PP Stall stall its opponent once trapped until it struggles to death, but Pyukumuku will use up much of its own PP in doing so, making it difficult to accomplish this multiple times per battle. you should probably use something like RestTalk Gmolt as an example of what it improves Pyukumuku against since it wastes its Rest and Sleep Talk PP
  • Leftovers is the primary item option to aid Pyukumuku's recovery, but Heavy Duty Boots I would add that Boots keep breakers like keldeo from being able to put more pressure on Pyukumuku with hazard chip.
  • A Bold nature with maximum Defense investment ensure Pyukumuku can consistently check most set up sweepers like Azumarill and Dragon Dance Salamence.

Paragraph 2

  • Pyukumuku primarily fits on stall archetypes, though it can also be used on semi-stall as well. you should add what things Pyukumuku can provide over Quag here like a better matchup against opposing stall teams, Amoonguss and Zygarde-10%
  • A cleric like Chansey or Umbreon is much appreciated to consistently remove Toxic, which otherwise is a fatal status. Pyukumuku can in turn check offensive threats to these Pokemon like Keldeo.
  • Pyukumuku can get worn down by hazards if it does not carry Heavy Duty Boots, so a hazard clearer like defensive Salamence is a good option, and Salamence can appreciate Pyukumuku checking Azumarill as well. Azu 2HKOes with banded Play Rough, so specify that its a belly drum set or use something else. I would also point out how Mence's Dual Wingbeat helps against Substitute Keldeo.
  • Pyukumuku relies heavily on its item, and as such a Pokemon that can absorb a Knock Off like Amoonguss or Buzzwole is a great compliment. These Pokemon can also check opposing offensive Grass-types like Zarude.
  • Since Pyukumuku cannot trap Ghost-types, its team needs a consistent answer to Aegislash. Chansey can help absorb Aegislash's Toxic and Shadow Balls, while a Specially Defensive Amoonguss can take any Aegislash hit and retaliate with Foul Play. On a semi-stall build, a more offensive option like Rest Galarian Moltres can also work to check Aegislash. Im not opposed to like Galar molt on full stall, but this hasn't been tested enough to be proven and ive already gone over why you shouldnt run Pyukumuku on semi stall so just remove this.

I'd somehow fit on here that Hatt can force Pyukumuku to waste a lot of pp if it does get trapped though it doesn't want to

**Electric-Types types**: Pyukumuku cannot withstand powerful Electric attacks from foes like Thundurus and Raikou. Even less powerful foes like Rotom-W can simply Volt Switch out to avoid being trapped.

**Offensive Grass-Types types**: Zarude and Tapu Bulu are powerful Grass-type attackers that will deal tremendous damage to Pyukumuku, forcing it to switch out to avoid a KO. 0/10 analysis for not mentioning Roserade, though being rare, still threatens Pyukumuku with Leaf Storm or Spikes in front of its face ;-;

**Trick Users**: A Pokemon like Jirachi, Rotom-W, or Chandelure can Trick a Choice Scarf to Pyukumuku and render it useless for the remainder of battle, as Pyukumuku cannot perform its essential function when locked into one move.

- add Pivot moves since they help mons dodge the trap, especially Jirachi for being immune to Toxic and Zarude for healing with jungle healing. Though mention that others like Rotom-W and Moltres don't appreciate being poisoned and even Zarude's Jungle Healing can be pp stalled over time

- In general this section looks disorganized. Try to rearrange it by types, specific mons, and moves

**Offensive Grass-types**: Zarude and Tapu Bulu are powerful Grass-type attackers that will deal tremendous damage to Pyukumuku, forcing it to switch out to avoid a KO. **Pivot moves**: Pokemon that can safely pivot out of Pyukumuku, such as Jirachi, Zarude, and Rotom-W, render its trapping niche totally ineffective. However, these matchups are typically avoided as Pyukumuku will usually not be sent out against these foes, and many pivots like Rotom-W and Moltres do not want to risk switching into Toxic. Got some feedback on this, up to you whether or not you want to keep this until someone says otherwise since you acknowledged most of these Pokemon in different points. Just mention how Zarude also avoids the trap with u-turn in the Grass section and you should be good.

**Necrozma**: Necrozma with Dragon Dance and Photon Geyser will be able to pierce through Unaware and take down Pyukumuku if allowed to set up. Haxorus can also accomplish a similar feat with Mold Breaker, though it is less relevant. try to reword this to consider Necrozma's other setup options, especially since Meteor Beam is its main set.
