[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Spacial Rend is STAB
  • Earth Power is a reliable way of dealing damage to Primal Groudon
  • Hydro Pump is also STAB, its best used with Primal Kyogre
  • Trick Room for speed control
  • Protect lets it avoid hits, especially Fake Out, which is often used to stop TR setters
  • Gravity is an option to ensure that Primal partners hit with their signature moves, as well as letting Groudon hit Ground-immune Pokemon with Preicipice Blades

Set Details
========

  • Haban Berry lets Palkia live any Dragon-type move and get up Trick Room or kill the dragon with Spacial Rend
  • 252 HP for bulk
  • 20 Def lets it live Dragon Ascent from Jolly Life Orb Rayquaza
  • 236 Special Attack is to hit as hard as possible minus the 16 taken into Defense
  • Quiet nature is to be as slow as possible as well as for damage output
  • Life Orb lets it hit with more power, especially against Groudon with Earth Power
  • Lustrous Orb is a good item when you run Hydro Pump
  • 156 SpD is an option to let Palkia live Moonblast from unboosted Xerneas

Usage Tips
========

  • Palkia should most of the time lead to try to set up Trick Room
  • When you lead with Palkia to set Trick Room, always make plays with the mindset of that your opponent knows that your intention with Palkia is to try to get up Trick Room. If they have a Pokemon that commonly packs Taunt, consider just going for an attack instead. Also watch out for Fake Out

Team Options
========

  • Primal Groudon is a great partner since it is great under Trick Room and really loves Gravity support as well
  • Primal Kyogre is also a good partner, and also boosts Palkia's Hydro Pump and similarly to Groudon is good under Trick Room since it allows them to easily spam their spread moves
  • Mega Mawile is great under Trick Room and checks Xerneas for Palkia
  • Fake Out Pokemon such as Mega Kangaskhan can give Palkia some breathing space to more easily set Trick Room. Sadly a lot of Fake Out users such as Mienshao and Liepard are too fast for Trick Room, but Mega Kangaskhan with some bulk over Speed fits the bill

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Fast non-TR set
  • Draco
  • Aura Sphere
  • Thunder
  • Lum Berry
  • Roseli Berry
  • Mental Herb

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Xerneas and Mawile both threaten Palkia a lot with super effective STAB, and while Mawile is slower it outspeeds under Trick Room.

**Utility**: Moves such as Fake Out, Taunt and Encore from Pokemon such as Liepard and Meowstick can hinder Palkia from setting up Trick Room.

**Powerful physical attackers**: Physical attackers such as Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Salamence can quickly overwhelm Palkia with their attacks, which can do up to 80-90% to Palkia.

I know this is still WIP, but just wanted to chime in on a few things.

Hydro Pump is pretty rare on Palkia actually. Almost all events I see it at, they are running earth power in that slot. Its a surefire way to hit groudon while also not having to worry about misses.

This is also TIBOT usage for showdown ladder

<@kamikaze17> !usage1337 palkia moves vgc
<TIBot> Spacial Rend 92.830% | Earth Power 74.015% | Trick Room 55.888% | Protect 48.944% | Hydro Pump 36.333% | Gravity 25.351% | Thunder 20.726% | Flamethrower 9.882% | Draco Meteor 6.913% | Aura Sphere 5.192% | Surf 4.507% | Other 19.421%

While I dont believe showdown ladder is too reliable, you can probably slash Hydro Pump after Earth Power since it is still a ok option.

Also I feel Haban berry may have more usage than Lustrous Orb at events but I am not entirely sure on this one.

raikoo wanna help give suggestions about Daddy?

I haven't really thought of using Earth Power, mostly because I have been using it on a rain team, where Hydro Pump is preferred imo. You are right though, Earth Power is indeed a good option. I'll put it first and slash Hydro. As for Haban Berry, it will definetly get a set details mention, I'll also talk with QC about whether it deserves a slash on the main set. Thanks for the input.

I pretty firmly believe Groudon is the best partner for Palkia (and also Earth Power > Hydro) as with Kyogre your Xerneas/Groudon matchup is pretty weak once they get setup, Palkia/Groudon/Mawile are great teammates and a strong combo, especially with Gravity support from Palkia set up as there's no fear of Precipice/Play Rough misses and Precipice spam under Gravity is super strong as there's not many mons that resist that with immunities removed. also, 252hp/156sdef with the rest in satk isn't a bad spread as it'll always live unboosted Xerneas Moonblast and I haven't noticed any significant ohkoes/2hkoes missed with less satk, so that's always out there. As for items, I don't necessarily think Lustrous Orb is the best compared to other items such as Lum, Haban or Life Orb, especially since I think Earth Power is a better move to be using than Hydro. Another moveslot option for oo could be Stone Edge, it's definitely something i found use in as life orb no investment neutral Stone Edge koes all Ho-Ohs up to 252hp/76+ def (and I haven't seen any Ho-Ohs bulkier than that) but having Gravity+Groudon kinda does the same thing. Other than that, everything seems pretty fine.

252HP/20Def is the minimum required to survive Jolly MegaRay's LO Dragon Ascent. This means with Haban you can survive anything standard MRay throws at you and OHKO it back with Spacial Rend.

Also seconding PDon as a great partner, Gravity and a 4x Water resist to switch into Origin Pulse or Water Spout is very nice.

Okay I think this is finally ready for QC, sorry for being really slow but irl kinda happend for a while.

You should mention it having a huge niche of resisting Water Spout and Eruption in the overall and add a bullet talking about it's resistances.

  • 20 Def lets it live Dragon Ascent from Jolly Life Orb Rayquaza
  • 236 Special Attack is to hit as hard as possible minus the 16 taken into Defense
Was that minus statement really necessary? and even if you do keep it get your facts right lol. when you mention Lustrous maybe make a statement of why you would use it over Life Orb, because it grants more power without the cost of Life Orb damage. Heck if you wanted to go even farther you could mention that its a Signature item meaning you wouldn't have to waste an item slot for it.

In usage tips I would add that using can help to scout for whatever option they have against you.
Team Options could be beefed up a bit, like mention that slower heavy hitting pokemon in general prefer Trick Room. You can also mention Talonflame directly as on that first turn you can block a Fake Out with Quick Guard or just be able to Taunt for example Liepard.

Maybe beef up the Overview to.
It looks good Ksh

This looks good! As much as I'd like to make a mention of Telepathy, apparently there's a risk of being DQ'd for using it at events sooooo

QC 1/2!

Also put a mention of competition with dialga, as dialga kills rayquaza better and has more defensive synergy with Kyogre.

I feel as though Palkia's non-Trick Room option is popular enough at this point that it should be brought out of Other Options and be made its own set. In fact, the Battle Spot usage stats put Trick Room at just 31%, making it notably less popular than the alternative. If you add in a fast set you can tag me and I'll give this a proper check.

Aura Sphere seems way too niche. I'd remove that from OO and add Substitute. Additionally, what does Draco do? Higher chance to miss and what does the extra power do and it drops SpA by 2. Id remove that too. Thunder I see the argument for but I'd move that to very last in OO because 1v1 Spacial Rend beats Ogre's Ice Beam.

Tr lum berry zong + sub palkia beats every lead on paper i can think of.

Dropping this due to a lack of motivation to write this and also lack of having played the meta much lately
