(Peaked 1450-1460) team built around mega venusaur

Of all the starters from every gen, bulbasaur has always been my favorite, so it stands to reason that he's my mega- even though I feel other mega's are more powerful. I wanted to make a team around him and hopefully have teammates that can nullify his weaknesses, allowing him to shine.

Venusaur-Mega @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 188 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis

My mixed wall venusaur, the biggest threats are strong flying & psychic attacks which can ohko, as well as opponents that get a sub up and start stat boosting. Once in battle, Ieech seed provides consistent recovery & pressure on opponents with no means of recovery. Giga drain provides further recovery & stab in one, synthesis rounds up my venusaur stall with reliable recovery and helps me slowly wear down opponents through toxic/burn status inflicted by team mates whilst ensuring my health stays high.

Leech seed IMO is incredible, once on the opponent, even stat boosters are under pressure & it provides constant damage even if they hide behind a sub. The fourth move is sludge bomb- no saur should be without it- it hits opposing grass types with stab damage, and offers a high chance of poison. The added threat to fairy types rounds up venusaur, allowing him to go toe to toe with most ou pokemon, once inflicted with status.

Biggest threats- talonflame, (mega) pinsir, lati@s, alakazam, espeon, mega char if I don't hit him with sludge bomb on the switch.

Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Shadow Claw
- King's Shield
- Sacred Sword

My answer to venusaur's psychic weakness. Pursuit hammers any psychic I've switched into if they try to flee, shadow claw provides a nice stab high crit chance. Kings shield allows me to scout/buy time if the opponent has a health sapping status & can force a switch through stat lowering. Sacred sword is a reliable move to fight off bisharp/tyranitar and possibly heatran on the switch.

My biggest issue with aegislash- I changed him to physical attack with 252 atk recently- I'm unaware if pursuit will ohko lati@s when it decides to stay in battle. Switching into lati@s Draco meteor really hammers aegi- I'm considering switching to a mixed defensive or sp.def set to help counter this- but I'm struggling to find a balance between longevity & enough attack to hurt psychics.

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Protect
- Wish

Water absorb is incredible! Vaporeon is the perfect mon to wish health back to team mates, giving them a chance to further damage opponents. Protect allows me to scout & recover myself. Scald hits for stab damage from a decent sp.atk, and offers the chance for a burn- helping venusaur further through both consistent damage and halving the damage he'll be taking. Toxic does just the same thing. It's an old set but it works wonders, I only wish vaporeon could learn heal bell/aromatherapy! Vaporeon also helps heatran & hippowdon, taking water attacks happily, allowing them to function for longer.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Lava Plume
- Roar
- Stone Edge

Heatran helps tackle venusaurs flying weakness (particularly talonflame, pinsir & any char lacking EQ) through the use of stone edge. Roar helps phaze opponents to rack up stealth rock damage (from my hippo), and lava plume provides great stab against steels, especially ferrothorn & forretress- pokemon venusaur struggles against. It'll also give a chance for a burn on the switch. Wow is amazing against physical attackers, pretty much shutting them down- and further helping venusaur with consistent damage & reduced attacks.

Biggest issues- ground attacks! I don't like air balloon simply because it's very easily removed early on & I'm then left itemless. Heatran also doesn't hit very hard, being sp.defensive. I've considered a choice specs sp.atk & speed invested heatran to switch in to fire attacks, hit hard & run, but haven't tried it yet.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off

My stealth rock hippo & physical wall, hippowdon takes hits like a champ, and is able to slack off to recover without too many problems. Sandstorm ( & status infliction) allows him to stall physical pokemon, and stone edge/stealth rock helps cover venusaurs flying weakness. EQ for stab damage against opposing aegislash.

Biggest issues: hippowdon is pretty slow, & switching in to a physical attack that takes close to 50% leaves him open to another blow before he can barely survive & slack off.

Mandibuzz (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
- Foul Play
- Defog
- Roost
- Toxic

My defogger. Mandibuzz is great to stall on it's own through toxic & roost, foul play hits physical attackers with real force, and he also gives me ground immunity. His ability to spread toxic & stall with pretty decent speed is the only reason he's still around tbh- I'd rather have a rapid spinner so I don't lose my own rocks, but struggle to make room for one.

Overall team issues- generally being pretty slow against ho teams screws me with recovery- even hippowdon, with high def & hp, struggles to switch in & take a 2nd hit before he can slack off. I also would like some help with heatran & aegislash.

More often than not, when it works, the team performs really well and the gradual spread of status to most opponents is enough to let venusaur settle in and whittle health down. When it doesn't go well, it's a fairly slow defeat.

I also miss my unaware clefable- dragon immunity with cleric & healing abilities was amazing- but I don't know how to fit her back in :(
