Draft Pecharunt Update [GP 1/1]

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 3 onwards

**Price Range**: 12-14 points

**Overview**: Pecharunt has a lopsided stat spread and an unusually shallow movepool, but it has incredible physical bulk and just enough tools to function as a potent wall and pivot without being passive. Malignant Chain and Poison Puppeteer are annoying for many foes, and the threat of them is enough to force switches and make progress. Pecharunt can take advantage of this pressure by using Parting Shot or Nasty Plot to deal with its checks. It can also completely wall many of the format's weaker Rapid Spin users, making it one of the best spinblockers in the format. These traits make it quite good at taking control of games and allowing a draft's offense to perform.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Pivot**: Pecharunt’s fantastic Defense, reliable recovery, and access to Parting Shot make it an excellent bulky pivot. It also has multiple means of spreading poison and confusion, limiting foes' longevity and the opponent's options. Its strong STAB moves alongside Foul Play and sometimes Curse prevent foes with poison immunities from taking advantage of it too easily.

**Wallbreaker**: Nasty Plot allows Pecharunt to break down other bulky Pokemon without relying on poison. It can still run Recover and have staying power against especially defensive teams.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Malignant Chain, Gunk Shot, Poltergeist, Shadow Ball, Hex

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot

**Utility Moves**: Recover, Parting Shot, Toxic, Night Shade, Foul Play

**Coverage**: Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Curse**: Curse is used as an emergency response to setup sweepers that use tools like Tera or Substitute to avoid Pecharunt's tricks.

**Memento**: Although it is similar to Parting Shot, Memento can have a niche on some Pecharunt sets. Its larger stat drops create a safer opportunity for incoming teammates to set up. It also has the benefit of not being blocked by Clear Amulet.

**Destiny Bond**: Pecharunt can stop slow setup sweepers with a well-timed Destiny Bond.

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Against drafts with decent Stealth Rock and Spikes setters, Heavy-Duty Boots can provide more longevity than Leftovers on defensive sets. Pecharunt frequently pivots with Parting Shot, so entry hazards quickly prevent it from being able to switch in with enough HP to avoid 2HKOs.

**Black Sludge / Leftovers**: Passive recovery increases Pecharunt’s longevity if it doesn't need a specific item to perform. If it can't use Tera, Black Sludge is preferred for its ability to damage opposing Trick and Switcheroo users.

**Resistance Berries**: Resistance Berries protect Pecharunt from super effective coverage, allowing it to safely stay in against certain threats. It can also use them to lure attackers that have super effective STAB moves and weaken them with poison or Parting Shot or simply KO after a Nasty Plot.

Niche Items
========
**Air Balloon**: A temporary immunity to Ground allows Pecharunt to safely switch in on more Rapid Spin users, most notably Great Tusk, Iron Treads, and Donphan. This can ensure that entry hazards stay on the field in fast-paced games. Air Balloon can also help relieve some of the pressure exerted by other Ground-types like Landorus and Ursaluna.

**Choice Scarf**: Pecharunt is capable of filling an unexpected speed control role using Choice Scarf and its high-Base Power STAB attacks. Due to its limited movepool, it can often afford to run Recover alongside attacks and Parting Shot on these sets in case it loses its item.

**Rocky Helmet**: Rocky Helmet is useful on defensive sets, as it punishes foes using moves like U-turn and Knock Off. The extra damage also helps Pecharunt check attackers that rely on contact moves, such as Sneasler and Annihilape.

**Eject Button**: Eject Button can be used against offensive pivots to reclaim early-game momentum when Pecharunt can’t safely remain on the field to use Parting Shot, like when the foe is likely to use U-turn.

**Red Card**: Pecharunt’s exceptional bulk allows it to phaze many attackers one time with Red Card.

Tera
========
Pecharunt doesn’t require Tera to contribute to a team, but it's a great Tera Captain. Tera types like Tera Ground and Fire are used with Tera Blast to grant a coverage move that scares the opponent's Poison-immune Pokemon. Tera types with valuable resistances like Tera Fairy and Water give it better defensive profiles in some matchups. It can usually pick a Tera type to wall a specific threat on the opponent's draft and become even more difficult to take down.

Draft Strategy
========
Pecharunt is a great addition to a draft that already has several strong attackers and needs more of a backbone. The following teammates work best with it:

**Entry Hazard Setters**: Pecharunt's status effects and Parting Shot encourage foes to switch out. Entry hazards from Pokemon like Ting-Lu and Gliscor punish these switches. Pecharunt can also spinblock many Rapid Spin users without fear of being KOed.

**Fairy- and Fighting-weak Pokemon**: Many Fairy- and Fighting-types struggle to reliably defeat Pecharunt. Even if they are able to hit it super effectively, few are comfortable taking a Malignant Chain. As a result, Pecharunt can defensively check them to assist important teammates like Meowscarada, Iron Treads, and Garchomp.

**Steel- and Poison-type Checks**: Steel- and Poison-types are very common and often check Pecharunt. Strong teammates like Great Tusk and Corviknight that handle these types add some breathing room.

Checks and Counters
========
**Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon**: Pokemon with immunities to Pecharunt's poison are much less threatened by its attacks than others. Some of these can also afford to run Clear Amulet, which gives them a free turn if Pecharunt attempts to use Parting Shot. Similarly, Pokemon that are usually susceptible to status can Terastallize or use items like Lum Berry to gain crucial turns of safety from poison.

**Special Wallbreakers**: Even with Special Defense investment, Pokemon like Darkrai, Gholdengo, and Iron Crown deal massive damage to Pecharunt.

**Disruption**: Moves like Taunt and Psychic Noise seriously cut into Pecharunt's effectiveness as a wall by preventing Recover. Psychic Noise is also does respectable damage at the same time.

Gliscor takes tons from hex & garg isn't meta relevant

**Special Wallbreakers**: Even with Special Defense investment, Pokemon like Darkrai, Gholdengo, and Iron Crown deal massive damage to Pecharunt.

maybe add psychic noise as its own section - deals good damage and keeps it low
