At A Glance
Who it's all about
WutTheDuck (Porygon2) @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 52 SDef
Bold Nature
- Tri Attack
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Recover
Here is the first thing that MUST be said: I did not come up with the original idea for this team. These two Pokemon were from what my best friend wanted on her first ever competitive team, and I rolled with it. As far as P2 is concerned, Porygon 2 has always been a fun and interesting Pokemon due to it's great bulk and diverse movepool. With the right EV spreads, it can take hits such as a +2 Sacred Sword from a Aegislash and a Close Combat from Terrakion. Because of that, I chose a physically bulky set that can sponge hits and deal back some decent hits. Tri-Attack is stab, and recover is reliable recovery. BoltBeam is there for coverage, as there are some pokemon I have trouble dealing with, which will be mentioned below. P2 has proven to be a direct counter to Landorous-T, especially the physical sets. Tracing the Intimidate allows for a clean Ice Beam OHKO without any retaliation from Landorous.
SharPEDO (Sharpedo) @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Waterfall
Sharpedo is an absolute monster with little set-up required. The two STAB moves here, Crunch and Waterfall allow for decent coverage, hitting a lot very hard. I chose Earthquake over Zen Headbutt, because a lot of the Pokemon that Zen Headbutt can KO, so can Earthquake. Earthquake also allows me to hit those pesky electric types, which keep them from checking Sharpedo after it's gotten a few speed boosts.
The Backup
The Word (Talonflame) @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- U-turn
The Bird is an amazing Pokemon on this team, able to deal with A TON of Sharpedo's counters, as well as Pokemon that Porygon 2 finds scary as well. Most of their counters are fighting types, which a priority Brave Bird just makes them into sandwich food. These counters include a few Pokemon that, regardless of the speed boosts, can outspeed Sharpedo due to priority, including Breloom, Conkeldurr, and Infernape. It also OHKO's Keldeo, and probably OHKO's Tangrowth (havent tested). Finally, it serves as another counter to Ferrothorn, though I prefer to take it out by other means due to the recoil.
LolImAPlane (Togekiss) @ Life Orb
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Dazzling Gleam
- Nasty Plot
Togekiss continues to break Sharpedo's counters, with Dazzling Gleam OHKOing Hydreigon, and doing a nice chunk, if not OHKOing Mega Gyrados and Dragonite (after Multiscale has been broken). Aura Sphere also OHKO's (Im assuming) Black Kyurem, which can easily take a Sharpedo Crunch and destroy it with an Outrage or a Bolt Strike. Air Slash is STAB, and has a very high flinch chance with Serene Grace. Due to the unique typing, Togekiss can easily switch in on even an Adaptability Aura Sphere from a mixed Lucario, but it unfortunately cannot capitalize on it due to Flash Cannon.
Finishing Touches
iEatBabies (Scizor) @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Defog
- Knock Off
- U-turn
Due to using Talonflame and Togekiss, Stealth Rocks were a massive concern. Since I am not running rocks of my own, I felt like I can run a Defog user, which would be better than a Spinner which can be blocked by Gengar. The rest of the moveset I feel is standard for a non-sword dance Mega Scizor, with the dual stab in Bullet Punch and U-Turn, and the Knock Off to cripple something on the opponents team. Because this is a Mega Scizor, it also stops opposing Pokemon's Knock Offs, which makes it a real threat in my opinion.
Cumshot (Goodra) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Suggested by pres1017, Goodra directly counters the two major threats to this team. The mono-dragon typing and huge special defense, plus the assault vest, will allow Goodra to sponge hits for DAYS. The moves are there to counter threats: Dragon Pulse for stab, Ice Beam for Zapdos, Tbolt for Mega Charizard Y, and HP Grass for Rotom Wash. Sap Sipper was chosen as the ability so I will not need to fear Spore, and can even switch in on predicted Spores.
Major Threats
Mega Charizard Y - This Pokemon has been a massive problem for me, due to the sun being set up thus weakening my Waterfall. Porygon 2 can do massive damage with the Thunderbolt, but it's a physically defensive and a Sun boosted flamethrower or fire blast will likely OHKO it. Talonflame also deals with it decently, but it's unreliable.
Zapdos - The entire reason I originally put Ice Beam on Porygon 2, Zapdos causes major headaches for me. Due to the natural bulk and the ability to learn Heat Wave, this thing can tear through my entire team for the most part. Tbolt destroys Talonflame, Sharpedo, and Togekiss, while Heat Wave destroys Trevenant and Scizor. Yea, this is a problem.
Rotom-Wash - This thing has become a major threat recently, due to the bulk it carries and the Will-O-Wisp on my physical Pokemon. Maybe I give Rotom-Wash too much credit, but this thing is an annoying piece of garbage that I can't stand, and whenever I battle it, it gives me tons of problems.
Removed from team
Sudowoodo (Trevenant) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Careful Nature
- Horn Leech
- Leech Seed
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Claw
Trevenant is there literally just to counter Rotom Wash. However, I have also found that it can help against Mega Lucario, specifically if it comes in on a Close Combat and gets off a Will-o-Wisp. I feel like this set has the most staying power, due to the heavy amounts of recovery, allowing it to tank for days. Coming in on a special attacker, and forcing the opponent out is what Rotom Wash does best, in my opinion, when it carries Will-o-Wisp, so I figured I could make Trevenant do the same. Unfortunately, Trevenant suffers from 4-moveslot syndrome, and I can't get rest on it without getting rid of Shadow Claw, or I'd run Lum Berry over Sitrus.
Suggestions
Goodra - Suggested by Pres1017 to counter Mega Charizard Y and Zapdos, replaced Trevenant.
Togekiss - Suggested a moveset change by Skymin50. May or may not use suggested change, depending on how Goodra fairs.
