Pelipper Discussion

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/279.shtml

Pelipper, the NU/UU Gyarados! Ok, not really. He is a somewhat interesting and overlooked Pokemon, so I felt he deserved a discussion thread.

Physical Movepool

Aerial Ace
Steel Wing
Payback
U-Turn
Quick Attack
Pursuit

Base 50 Attack, so you shouldn't be touching any these with the possible exception of U-Turn and maybe Quick Attack.

Special Movepool

Surf
Hydro Pump
Ice Beam
Icy Wind (Emerald Move Tutor)
Shock Wave
Air Slash

Somewhat limited, but he does get Shock Wave at least. STAB Air Slash is good too. Base 85 Special Attack isn't great, but certainly usable.

Support Movepool

Knock Off
Roost
Tail Wind
Stockpile
Agility
Aqua Ring

Knock Off, Roost and Tail Wind are pretty cool.

Gyarados/Garchomp Counter?

That's right, I've gone insane by suggesting he can counter them both.

Pelipper @ Expert Belt
Trait: Keen Eye
EVs: 236 HP / 172 Def / 100 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Shock Wave
- Roost
- Surf/Knock Off/Tail Wind/Air Slash

Gyarados' Dragon Danced Ice Fang does 28 - 32% with 383 Attack.

Garchomp's Swords Danced Dragon Claw does 70 - 82% when Adamant, 63 - 75% when Jolly.

Expert Belt means Shock Wave does 54 - 64% to 384 HP/236 Special Defense Gyarados.

Hidden Power Electric will obviously do more, but do you really want to breed for it?

Ice Beam OHKOs 357 HP/206 Special Defense Garchomp.

Obviously Pelipper is screwed if either has Stone Edge (although he just barely survives a boosted Stone Edge from Gyarados, 85 - 99%). Stealth Rock and Sandstorm hurt him too, but it's Pelipper so you can't expect too much. The fact that he a shot at killing them both is pretty cool in my book.
