Why create a Rain Dance Team?

Since RBY I long played at Pokemon, nowadays with Platinum and Heart Gold/Soul Sliver, i had bad times, reaching more than 100 defeat in a week, I was so sad than I have almost decided to retire from Pokemon. My TSS was an asbolute fail, and my classic control team was a fail, too. I decided to test (just by fun at the origin) a Rain Dance Team, but less aggro than the classics others Rain Dance Team. That was a great idea and saved me from my fails, allowing me to reach more than 50 victory in 3 days!

Introduction to Rain Dance X Control

Firstly, let's make an explanation: Control at Pokemon isn't pure stall, Control is often called "balanced" or "medium". Stall-goal is long term and sometimes, it just beats by annoying and boring the opponet. Control goal is COUNTER aggro team, so early and mid-game with things called "Kill(s)" (Late game sweeper(s)).

Secondly, How to cross Rain Dance Team and Control?
To make a RDC team (short for Rain Dance Control), we have in a first time search for the kill, then some support and finally the RD set upper and counters at the same time, and I suceeded in this.

Construction of the Team

1) Choice of the kill

141-1.png

When you play Control, you must have a KILL,this pokemon must be devastating, a good example of a perfect kill is Garchomp with Sword Dance, Earthquake, Outrage, Fire Fang and the anti-ice attacks berry. Under Rain, the pokemon that looks like the most Garchomp is Kabutops (and it proved well its power)

2) Supporters

437-1.png
195-1.png

In order to allow your kill to make its work safely and properly, you need good support:
-Bronzong is a beast for support: it has good defenses, a good movepool, can explode and deals with a few dangerous threats like Gengar or Porygon Z, with only one weakness, two immunities and a lot of resistances, it's a must in any RD team.
-Quagsire is a special choice: With Heart Gold and Soul Sliver it gets Recover, a good move for a staller-counter-RD set upper, it has Yawn, Water Absorb, good stats and only one weakness which is covered by Bronzong, you understand: Sire and Zong are good friends, if not, best friends....

3) Leader choice

169-1.png

The best leader for RDC: it has Taunt to stop Smeargle to make its work, it's fast, and set up RD and Pokes with U-turn, and finally gets the fantastic Super Fang with the new moves!

4) Sweeping help

272-2.png

Ludicolo isn't a kill (if it could have access to Nasty Plot it would have been one, but sadly no). It's a sweeper, a good sweeper, under the rain, it deals fantastic damages event without power-up boost like Kabutops has. Plus, it's not weak to grass or thunder....

6) "Coup de coeur"

454-1.png

This thing is my love (thanks to Edwin illian from Pokebip). And you'll see it as a great toy, it works well, and even if it's not a pseudo Garchomp like Kabutops, it hurts quite well.

Movesets and Explanations

169.png

Crobat "Batman"
Rôle: Swiss Leader
Item:Damp Rock
Ability:Inner focus
Nature:Jolly (+spd, -SA)
EVS:252PV//6ATK//252SPD
Moveset:
Rain Dance
Taunt
U-Turn
Super Fang

Description:
The best lead (IMO) for Rain Dance, 394 speed tie with Aerodactyl and Jolteon, it can run away from dangerous lead, take a few hits and annoy some things with Taunt or Super Fang. 4 functions=Swiss (knife) lead^^

Moveset:
Rain Dance is obvious, U-turn is here to hurt (a bit) and putting a pokemon in play, Taunt is here to stop Stealth rocker and Smeargle. Super Fang is a super move: it hurts a lot of things and it saves EVS to put them in HP.

Nature, Evs, Item:
For the Item, i choose Damp Rock, it permits me t ohave until 8 turns of RD, which is nice, Jolly to outspeed the most things, and the Evs to havethe best speed and a good life (thanks to Super Fang)

Synergy:
A Swiss lead helps ALL the team. The double type of Crobat is also useful for Poison resistance, double bug resistance, fighting and ground immunity.

Problem: Scarftrick lead, Jirachi is especially gay on that. If i feel the opponet's lead has Trick, I RD then i see...

437.png

Bronzong "Alexander"
Rôles: Staller, RD set upper, counter
Item: Danp Rock
Ability:Levitate
Nature: Sassy (+SD,-Spd)
EVS:252PV//6DEF//252SD
Moveset:
Rain Dance
Explosion
Gyroball
Earthquake

Description:
Good Defenses, one weakness (covered by RD), two immunities and a lot of resistances! I can't resist this thing, it's so...useful...It hursts scarers, kills Gengar, Porygon Z and can ruin some things...A pillar

Moveset:
Like Crobat, RD is obvious, Explosion is here to help to set up a sweeper and sometimes, kills a problem. Gyroball is an extremely powerful STAB, and Earthquake is here to complete. I'm testing Charge beam and Flash canon on it.

Nature, EVS, Item:
With its durability, Damp Rock is again a good choice, For The Nature I choose to being more resistant to Special, so Sassy and full PV and special defense.

Synergy:
its fire weakness disaper under rain, Explosion helps to put other poke in battle. Covers weaknesses to psychic, ground.

Problems:
Except scarfed, noonne

195-1.png

Quagsire "Mateus"
Rôle:Staller, Counter, RD set upper
Item:Dam Rock
Ability:Water Absorb
Nature:Impish (+def,-SA)
EVS:252PV//252DEF//6SD
Moveset:
Rain Dance
Yawn
Recover
Earthquake

Description:
This guy is nice, really, I needed a good RD set upper to counter Scizor, immune to thunder and in the same time which water attacks don't betray, the answer was QUAGSIRE. It doesn't hurt a lot, il annoys, it blocks, it set up RD.A beast.

Moveset:
Rain Dance still here. Yawn is here cause Stone Edge wasn't really useful (even on Salamence or Gyarados). Yawn is a great tool as it buys time (a simple example is it forces some Pokemon to run away).Recover is a good gift from HGSS, it avoids Rest. EQ is here to hurt a little and avoid being taunted=struggle.

NAture, EVS,Moveset:
No comment for Damp Rock. Impish+these EVs allows Mateus to take less than 20% to choice band bullet punch from Adamant Scizor.

Synergy:
Ground+Water Absorb=blocking Vaporeon, Suicune and all things that have only Water/Thunder as attack slot.

Problem:
U-turn spam, Grass attacks

272.png

Ludicolo"Donald Duck"
Rôle: Special Sweeper,Semi-Kill
item:Life orb
Ability:Swift Swim
Nature:Modest (+SA,-ATK)
EVS:6PV//252SA//252SPD
Moveset:
Surf
Ice beam
Grass Knot
Leech Seed

Description:
This thing is a big classic in RD, even without Nasty plot, it hurts, really...It hasn't grass and thunder weakness, good resistances (water, ground), and a good moovepool.

Moveset:
Surf is a good STAB; boosted by rain and life orb, it hurts a lot of things, Ice beam is here for Dragons,Celebi (F**k yourself Dragons with outrage! :P).Grass Knot is powerful, it 2 OHKO Gyarados and Suicune. Leech seed is a real pain for Snorlax and Blissey, if they are the last poke, it's uncurable <<.

Nature,EVS, Item:
Modest with 252SA to hurt the most, 252SPD to become extremely quick under Rain, Life orb cause not Nasty Plot.

Synergy:
Have you already faced Ludicolo under Rain? It's a monster, A Porygon Z choice spec, with twice its speed.

Problem:Extremespeed

141.png

Kabutops "Deathscythe"
Rôle:Kill
Item:Life orb
Ability:Swift Swim
Nature:Adamant (+ATK,-SA)
EVS:6PV//252ATK//252SPD
Moveset:
Sword Dance
Waterfall
Stone Edge
X-Scissor

Description:
Here it is! The Rain Garchomp, under the rain and with a +2ATK boost, it slashes its foes like grass! I can't explain how this thing is devastating, horribly powerful, almost abused!

Moveset:
Waterfall is a horribly powerful STAB:120 power+Rain+SD, 30% flinch. Ridiculously brutal...Stone Edge is just a less (but really a bit less) brutal: 150+ CH high critical rate+SD. X-Scissor is here for Latias, Celebi and other problems than Waterfall orStone Edge canno deal with correctly.

Nature,EVS,Item:
Adamant+Life orb+252ATK for brutality. 252SPD for speed under rain.

Synergy:
Simply the best kill under the rain...

Problem:
Bullet punch, Mach punch

454.png

Toxicroak "Froggy"
Rôle:stalling sweeper
Item:Black sludge
Ability:Dry Skin
Nature:Adamant (+ATK,-SA)
EVS:252PV//252ATK/6SPD
Moveset:
Substitute
Focus punch
Sucker punch
Poison Jab

Description:
Firstly, Thanks you very much Edwin for this great critter. I can't explain how is beautiful to see a sub puncher with good coverage recovering 3/16 ofits helth under rain per turn! It hurts a bit, it stalls a bit, it just works, of course ,it's not the monster like Kabutops or Ludicolo, but i don't ask it for that.

Moveset:
Substitute+focus punch is classic but really good here, sucker punch fucks Gengar and Starmie and is great coverage with Focus punch, Poison Jab complete the STABS and kick Celebi's ass.

Nature,EVS,Item:
Adamant+252ATK for power, black sludge+252PV for durability.

Synergy:
Recover more HP under Rain, counter fighting, bug, poison, water, steel.

Problem:
sometimes hard to set tup.

How the team works?

In construction

Problems encountered?

Conclusion:

141.png

Rain Dance Control exist and works, the power of RD sweeper is terrible, and must not be underestimated, we already know Kabutops, Kingdra, Ludicolo, but there are some real threats in UU until NU (I tested Floatzel wich hurts too). Really, If you want to test Rain Dance Control, you won't regret this, it's a cool experience.

See you later! ^^
