This is the first team I'm posting on RMT and it's one I'm intending on working with, because I specialize in UU and NU.
The pokemon I'm basing this team on is Persian, because of the ever useful Technician and the relatively high speed.
Team Building:
I base my team upon Persian.
Since I'm not using the ability Limber, I figured I needed a cleric for my team.
I'm not too worried about Toxic Spikes, because Lanturn can easily heal it, but Stealth Rock and Spikes are another matter, plus Hitmonlee can also pull off a Rapid Spin if needed.
I guess I need a good Fire-type on my team for pokemon that would wall me easily, such as Leafeon since it gets the jump on the only pokemon that can really hammer it, Lanturn.
I figured that if anyone tried to take a shot at ice, or even better, water, attacks against my team, a good old PsyBoltBeaming Lapras would settle it. It also handles Weezing quite effectively. After all, it's worked with most of my other teams, so why not try it on this?
Finally, I need a good lead, which, in my case, would be a Drifblim to finish the entire set up. Drifblim also has the added advantage of being immune to Fighting-type moves, so it can switch into attacks targeted at Persian and Lapras.
The team in detail:
Drifblim - Unburden - Petaya Berry - Modest
30 HP IVs - 96 Def / 252 SpA / 60 SpD / 100 Spe
Shadow Ball
Substitute
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power - Fighting
Although Drifblim is a good Baton Passer, it has a base Special Attack stat of 90 and also has the ability Unburden, and giving it a Petaya Berry will boost the Special Attack even higher. Substituting three times will allow it to hit the Unburden range. Also, Shadow Ball, Hidden Power Fighting and Thunderbolt hit almost everything for at least neutral damage, plus Shadow Ball gets STAB.
Persian - Technician - Silk Scarf - Jolly
4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe
Fake Out
Bite
Aerial Ace
U-turn/Return
Persian is the core of this team. The rest of the team is mainly built around it. With 252 speed EVs, and a Jolly nature, Persian outruns almost everything in UU. It also hits Psychics like Alakazam extremely hard with Bite and U-turn. For pokemon without the ability Inner Focus, it is easy to switch out Persian into any attack and do a Fake Out to get some extra damage. I am still considering replacing U-turn for Return, as it does more damage with STAB and Bite can handle most Psychic types with 90 base damage with Technician. Aerial Ace is also a good priority move that maybe able to knock out weaker grass and fighting types before they can get the jump on Persian.
Lanturn - Volt Absorb - Leftovers - Calm
40 HP / 76 Def / 140 SpA / 252 SpD
Surf
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Heal Bell
Lanturn is a good special tank, but unfortunately cannot take Ground-type hits, especially Earthquake, because one hit will as good as take it out. Also, with Heal Bell, it is the cleric of the team, ridding them of whatever status problems they might had gotten. It also has Surf+BoltBeam, which is a very useful combination, especially since it has STAB on Thunderbolt and Surf. Ice Beam is an extra precaution just in case anyone sends out Torterra, Leafeon, or Sceptile, which will totally murder this. Ice Beam can also strike down some other not-so-common threats like Zapdos.
Hitmonlee - Reckless - Black Belt - Adamant
4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Spe
Close Combat
Rock Slide
Earthquake
Mach Punch
Close Combat + Reckless + Black Belt can KO almost any pokemon that isn't resistant to Fighting-type moves. Rock Slide is chosen over Stone Edge due to superior accuracy, and Earthquake is for type coverage, as well as providing good cover against other pokemon. As Hitmonlee's speed isn't very stellar, Mach Punch is chosen over Sucker Punch due to the fact that the opponent may not attack, and Mach Punch is further boosted by Black Belt.
Typhlosion - Blaze - Petaya Berry - Timid
30 HP IVs - 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Substitute
Flamethrower
Focus Blast
Hidden Power Rock
This is essentially the same as Drifblim, only it can really rip through Blissey if Focus Blast hits and Subtitute also lets Blaze come into effect on top of Petaya Berry. Hidden Power Rock is chosen over Grass because most of the other Pokemon, with the exception of Quagsire, Gastrodon, and similar types, are already badly hit by the other members of the team.
Lapras - Water Absorb - Expert Belt - Modest
192 HP / 112 Def / 160 SpA / 44 SpD
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Surf
Psychic
Lapras is the most straightforward set on the entire team. It's essentially supposed to hit anything that doesn't resist any of the attacks, which is highly unlikely. Lapras can switch in to a Water-type pokemon using any water move, and can probably 2 or 3HKO most Water pokemon with Thunderbolt. It's essentially a slower version of a PsyBoltBeaming Starmie. Expert Belt is also dumped onto Lapras as it can hit a lot harder, KOing some weaker pokemon like Weezing with Psychic.
Please rate and comment on my team choices!
