petal storm (mono grass)

"grass types have so many weaknesses! how could someone ever think about doing a team with only grass types without being absolutely maaaaaaaaaaaaad?"
that's what some people could think when seeing my mono grass, but apparently, the team works, so let's get into it!

as i'm really bad at teambuilding, my firts thoughts when building were "I'm gonna pick only pokes of one type, so, by restricting my choices, i'll probably find more easily what I need"

I chose grass type, because:
-it's by far my favourite type
-immunity to powder moves
-sub seed and leech seed in general
-life draining moves
-gourgeist

so first, i chose things i liked, put it together, and saw how it went...
and that was pretty bad X)

Jumpluff was my lead, I had breloom as a physical sweeper, lilligant as a special setup sweeper, gourgeist small as a physical wall, roserade @assault vest as a specially bulky poke, and leafeon as a cleric or something

first problem: I had nothing to take neutrally the hits that grass types don't like
i switched leafeon for ferrothorn and lilligant for ludicolo, but i didn't really like using ferro, so i switched it out for a cradily
finally, i picked whimsicott over jumpluff, because i didn't really care as much about poison than about ice

so here is the team, as you'll see, i'm a big fan of all the things that can sub-seed :) :
images

Daiyousei (Whimsicott) (F) @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- Encore
- Leech Seed
- Taunt
- Light Screen

Yes, i know, whimsicott could have substitute, but really, whimsicott can't sub seed efficiently :/
I have priority taunt, pretty important , because without it, i'm walled by taunt user, and i don't want rocks on my side on the first turn, so there is that. Encore is there to gain a free turn to do whatever the hell i want, or to gain a free switch into a frail sweeper. leech seed on the predicted (or forced by encore) switch just because yummy delicious Hp, and light clay boosted light screen, because screens are always good to have on any team :)
images

Sariel (Breloom) (M) @ Choice scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Force Palm
- Rock Tomb

physical sweeper. THIS THING HITS SO HARD!!!!(except that i always get 2 turns bullet seed --')
bullet seed is here, because with technician boost, it's the most powerful STAB when it hits more than 2 times (really, getting double STAB on a 50 to 125 move is really good) mach punch for priority, always good to revenge kill fast things (and slow things faster than breloom, like...erm...a lot of things?) rock tomb because rock coverage is good, and a more accurate+more powerful rock slide that can lower speed is pretty cool. then force palm, because that's the most powerful fighting STAB he gets, and para-Hax can slow down things, which is also pretty good for a poke as slow as breloom.
images

Medicine (Roserade) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Rest

roserade is so good as an offensive poke, i really like her. sludge bomb for STAB, giga drain for STAB+recovery and shadow ball for coverage. life orb 125 base special attack is pretty damn high. i really like how everyone loses 1 poke before realizing my roserade is offensive. I put rest on the last moveslot, so i can recover up LO damages and just wake up by switching out. natural cure is such a cool ability ^^
also, roserade is good to absorb T-spikes and any kind of status move.
images

Yoshika (Gourgeist-Small) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 148 HP / 244 Def / 116 Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- destiny bond
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Will-O-Wisp

first of all, i chose small gourgeist over fat gourgeist because she has faster WoW, leech seed and sub, she has less Hp, so she recovers a greater percentage of Hp with Leech seed, and i don't give a damn about the physical offensive stat, because i use a special move. so i have obviously substitute+leech seed, because that's something i really like to play with. Will-o-Wisp just because i want ALL dem physical bluk.
images

Captain Murasa (Ludicolo) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Substitute

Ludicolo is such a good special wall, really fun to play with. again, substitute+leech seed because gimme all dat Hp. giga drain for even more recovery and ice beam (even if i don't really like to freeze hax people to death :/ ) because grass+ice coverage is better than grass+water coverage.
nothing more to say about this one. It takes special hits like a boss, that is all.
images

Kaguya (Cradily) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Suction Cups
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Curse
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

last but not least: Cradily, yes, you heard me, the wall from NU, the "set up fodder", as some like to call it. I originally picked her just to see how she would work, and, she did even more than her original job of tanking hits: she has usable offensive presence. Her name really suits her well: she is nearly imperishable ;)
Due to her "shitty" ability, suction cups, this thing is an amazing set up mon. she has been really useful to my team, tanking hits like a beast and knocking out dangerous threats to my team like talonflame, volcarona, and even mega charY and ninetales under the sun!
max Sdef curse+recover make this thing live so long, and by boosting her attack, she also gains a dangerous offensive presence. rock slide + EQ because edgequake coverage is good.

this team is not perfect, i know it, but it works how i want it to work.
-Kaguya is neutral to most of grass weaknesses, weak to fighting, that Yoshika just absorbs, to ice, that -Murasa doesn't care about, and to the more problematic bug type.
-bug buzz hits through the subs and nothing safely takes it, so powerful special bug types are kind of a problem to my team.
-poison types obviously are a problem for Dai', but Kaguya can eat up most poison type attacks an retaliate with an EQ.
-status are not really dangerous as long as Medicine is aroud. but if Kaguya, Murasa or Yoshika gets poisoned, that can become a problem (that's why i like to switch in kaguya on T-waves, because she doesn't care about lowered speed)
-strong physical ice types can be a problem as my only poke neutral to ice is my special wall (srsly, why doesn't rock resist ice :V ).
-pranksters with taunt are not that big of a problem as the only prankster faster than Whimsicott is whimsicott, which no one uses.
-a lot of EH on my field is pretty bad as i switch a lot and i don't have a spinner/defoger.
-Infiltrators are bad. i don't like wasting a sub :'(.
-I don't have any form of recovery on Hashmal, so it can't really take any hits.
-lucario can be either physical or special, so if i choose the wrong wall to send, i just lose a poke
-aegislash if mixed can be problematic, but the standard SD king's shield insertphysicalmoves is absolutely walled by Yoshika.
-if a volcarona manages to set up, i'm pretty much dead.
-magic bounce fucks over the sub-seed, that makes me sad :'(
-strong psychic types are a problem, two pokes on my team are psychic weak and i have no resists
-the fact that i can't burn fire types makes infernape and fire types w/ fighting coverage even more threatening because fire= Kaguya eating it up and fighitng= dead kaguya
-clefable is problematic if it sets up before being smacked by a sludge bomb.

i hope you enjoyed this RMT and i'm now here to listen to what you have to say about this team :)

Nice team!
A little advice, change your cradily to a physically defensive set.because the biggest threat for grass type team is talonflame.

cradily can resist talonflames attacks even without defense invesments

252 Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Cradily: 219-258 (58.2 - 68.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(219, 220, 223, 226, 229, 231, 234, 237, 238, 241, 244, 247, 249, 252, 255, 258)

if i manage to get cradily in safely, i can take a brave bird and kill with rock slide:

0 Atk Cradily Rock Slide vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Talonflame: 364-432 (122.1 - 144.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(364, 364, 372, 376, 384, 384, 388, 396, 396, 400, 408, 412, 412, 420, 424, 432)

talonflame isn't really the biggest threat to my team, really, volcarona is scarier

+1 252+ SpA Volcarona Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cradily: 342-404 (90.9 - 107.4%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
(342, 348, 350, 354, 360, 362, 366, 372, 374, 378, 384, 386, 390, 396, 398, 404)

if this thing manages to get 1 quiver, it can pretty much sweep my team :/, so yes, talonflame is dangerous, but without Sdef investments, i just have no chances to win against a volcarona, so max Hp max Sdef is better imo

I made a few changes:

i gave a scarf to breloom, so it can be an even more deadliest revenge killer. It can outspeed 252+spd base 130 and destroy a lot of stuff. Though i'm not sure if i should keep mach punch, because priority+scarf seems a bit redundant, but it's still good against other scarfers and stuff with priority that dies to it (like Talonflame under 30%)

i also changed the Ev spread on my gourgeist to 148Hp 248+Def 116Spd to outspeed 252+spd base 70, and i gave it Destiny bond over incinerate, to kill annoying stuff late game, when she can't recover up.

and i saw that i hat some big problems with LO sheer force Nidoking, this thing hits just too hard :'(

mega venusaur is also f**king annoying.

Well, I happen to also be a big fan of grass types, and give you a round of applause for using the underused Cradily. Here are my suggestions:
First of all, Cradily. You have a perfectly viable set, but I would just like to give you some options, maybe these help you a lot, idk.
1. Stockpile
2. Toxic
3. Barrier/Amnesia
I just have personal experience with the bottom two, and the first helps you deal with Volcarona even better, but they lessen your attack presence. If you only run one attack on a Cradily set, I recommend rock slide.

I dislike rest on Roserade, as it leaves here open to physical attacks for two turns, and think that Aromatherapy is a much better option for your team. Sleep Powder is another great choice. Also, I recommend hidden power fire or hidden power ground over shadow ball to help you deal with steel types. Hidden Power Fire lets you hit Skarmory, but Hidden Power Ground lets you hit Heatran. Both of these are boosted by Technician, so I think that that is a great option for your ability. If you do change it, use Magical leaf over Giga Drain for more power.

I have used Ludicolo in the past, and would have to recommend using Rain Dance over Substitute. It lets you gain another 1/16 HP per turn. Also, it boosts the power of water moves, letting you use Scald over Ice Beam. The former is much more powerful (especially under rain) and can burn pokemon such as Lucario or Mega Mawile. Scald also helps you deal with Infernape and Scizor much better than rain dance, crushing the former and dealing decent damage and possibly burning the latter. I wouldn't recommend destiny bond on a Poke with less than 100 base speed. I use it on Froslass, who was 110 speed, max investment and + nature, and sometimes I'm still not fast enough. You don't even run max investment.

On Whimsicott, put substitute. Trust me. It can sub seed, and it really annoys me. Do it. Over Light Screen.

On the breloom, what a good idea.

That's about all I have!

thanks a lot for your ideas :)

i won't change my cradily set. amnesia looks great, but with only 1 offensive move, cradily quickly becomes a set-up fodder :/. and Volcarona is not that big of a problem now that i scarfed breloom.

i'll probably try tehnician roserade though. seems cool.
but i don't really know what item i should giive her, because if i change natural cure for technician and giga drain for magical leaf, i won't have any form of recovery, so LO seems a bit dangerous.
and without natural cure, i won't have any status absorber, so i think i'll do something like that:

Roserade
c technician
black sludge/life orb
timid
4Hp 252SAtt 252Spe
sludge bomb
magical leaf/giga drain
HP ground
aromatherapy

I chose HP ground over HP fire because i'll use rain dance on ludicolo, that will negate all my fire weaknesses and give fire resist to ludicolo and cradily, so i'll probably ghange ice beam for sclad.

for D bond on gourgeist, i think that's still usefull. by D-bonding after a move that can't OHKO me, i have a free turn to burn or seed something, create a sub if i have enough life, or even better (or more evil): switch in whimsicott on the predicted set-up move and either encore him or seed him predicting a switch.

oh, and i'll try sub on whimsicott. gonna replace light clay by lefties and see how it goes

EDIT:

here is the team now that i made all the changes. I think it's pretty good now, because i managed to get around 1400 in OU and OU monotype.

Daiyousei (Whimsicott) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- Encore
- Leech Seed
- Stun Spore
- Substitute

i tried the sub-seed whimsicott, and it works really well. I changed light screen for sub, and i now have stun spore over taunt to cripple fast stuff and scarfers that could outspeed sariel. taunt and encore are the only moves that can cripple this set, as they both go through sub, but with priority sub, i can scout for a status or set up move and encore my opponent into that, then i just have to throw the seeds on the switch, and i have a free turn to stun spore if my opponent isn't guts and if it does not have a Huge attack stat that i'd like to cut with a burn.

Sariel (Breloom) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Force Palm
- Rock Tomb

Scarfed breloom is just great. if i see a greninja in my opponent's team, it generally is the lead, and i can just predict that, lead with breloom, and hit hard and fast with a strong bullet seed or force palm, depending on what the other pokes are. I kept mach punch, because i can outspeed a hurt talonflame and kill it if it's under 1/3 health, or destroy some things likescarfed hydreigon if i didn't manage to paralye it. So, yes, that's really a good set and i'm really enjoying it.

Medicine (Roserade) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Aromatherapy

as before, base 125 SAtt with LO is huge, but now i can punish poison and steel types with a big technician hidden power ground. i kept giga drain over magical leaf, because as i have the life orb, i need some recovery. I also have aromatherapy, as i no longer have my natural cure, and that's pretty usefull to heal my walls, because they really don't like poison or burns. She also absorbs those nasty T-spikes

Yoshika (Gourgeist-Small) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 148 HP / 244 Def / 116 Spd
Bold Nature
IVs: NaN Atk
- Destiny Bond
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Will-O-Wisp

i have a bit less hp and def evs on yoshika, because i figured it would be good to outspeed base 70 with +nature, so i can burn more things before they get a hit off. i have Destiny bond to potentially kill something, and if not, get a free turn to do whatever i want. then sub-seed, because sub seed is great.

Murasa (Ludicolo) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Substitute

same set as before on this one. rain dance didn't help me that much, and ice beam is more usefull than scald. nothing more to say about this one.

Kaguya (Cradily) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Suction Cups
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Curse
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

again, same set, because it just works so goddamn well.

the whole strategy with this team is to weaken the opposing pokemons with status and leech seeds, and then either set up with Kaguya if she is healthy enough, or just clean up with Sariel and, if she is still alive, Medicine (because medicine touches the battlefield some times before the final sweep, to heal the others, for example, and sometimes, she gets killed)

Hope you enjoyed ^^

(i also hope that editing a post doesn't bump the thread lol)
