This is a set I randomly came up with, and it does suprisingly well at it's job.
Set name: Bandtran
Heatran@Choice Band
Adamant/Naughty Nature
EVS: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP or 252 Atk, 152 Speed, 104 SpA
Ability: Flash Fire
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Explosion
Fire Blast/Overheat/Fire Fang
Typical Physical Attacker. The first two moves form the 'EdgeQuake' combo, only resisted by a few pokemon. Explosion is great for taking out walls, or just blowing up when you're low on health and can't do much else. Only use it when you really need to, though. For the last slot, There are three options. Fire Blast is useful for hitting things like Forretress, Skarmory, and Scizor who otherwise wall this set, and is a good STAB attack even without a +SpA nature or many EVs. Just be careful of it missing. Overheat adds an extra bite but isn't reccomended. If you do not like the idea of a Special Attack on a CBer, then you can go with Fire Fang, but Physical Walls like Hippowdon and Skarm become much harder to take down if you go this route, not to mention its Low Base power without a Flash Fire Boost in comparison to its special attacks. Flamethrower can be used for better accuracy, but you lose some noticable power. If you do choose Fire Fang, switch the nature from Naughty to Adamant and put the SpA evs in HP or Speed. You can also run a Choice Scarf with this set if you want, but you lose the raw power and might aswell use the standard Scarftran if you want more Speed.
The EVs for this set are simple. The first set uses the generic 252/252/4 Spread. This gives Bandtran all the power it can get, while outspeeding things up to Adamant Tyranitar. If you choose a special attack on this set, and feel you want some more power, then you can use the Alternative spread of 252Atk/152Spd/104SpA. This adds an extra bite to your attack, while still outspeeding the 60 base speed group that may invest in speed. Naughty nature is the recommended nature, as this does nothing to its Defense stat, as most of it's weaknesses (Close Combat, Earthquake) are physical moves. Adamant can be used if you don't care about Physical walls or already have something to deal with them, but overall Naughty is the superior choice. You can use a bulky spread of 252HP/252Atk/4Spd, but generally Heatran would rather outspeed Adamant Tyranitar and anything slower. If you really don't care about speed (not recommended), then you can run no EVs in Speed at all and put 252 evs in Attack and HP/Special Attack.
Heatran's only ability, Flash Fire, is an excellent weapon for Heatran to have under it's belt. Heatran will greatly appreciate the Fire-attack boost, especially if it uses Fire Fang/doesen't use many SpA evs. Good lures for fire attacks include Scizor, Jirachi, Forretress, and any other pokemon weak to fire.
Whatever spread or moves you choose, bulky pokemon will cause this set trouble. Gengar, Azelf, Skarmory and other pokemon immune to Earthquake (Gengar is also immune to Explosion) can cause this set problems. Celebi with Shadow Ball/HP Fire and other pokemon that are relatively bulky with Super-effective moves can handle these threats, and coincidently Celebi gets perfect coverage with Heatran, forming a CelePertTran combo which resists everything in the game. As for Stone Edge, things like Hippowdon, Rhyperior and Donphan will switch in on it and take barely any damage. Bulky waters and Grass types can fend off these threats. All in all, this set can either be your best weapon or a waste of a team-slot depending on how you play it.
Enjoy, hope it does well for you.
