Favorite Pokemon: Teddiursa/Snorlax
Most known for: "Bulky balance, sliggoo and specs vileplume"
Most used Pokemon: Thick Fat Hariyama
This week, I will be interviewing one of the cutest users of the NU room, Teddeh.
xzern: So tell me, Teddeh, what is the origin of your name?
Teddeh: I've been called Teddeh from Xbox Live for about 5-6 years. Originally it was an inside joke between me and my friend. But then having a girlfriend, she liked to call me it too, so it stuck. I changed name on xbox to Teddxh and kept it, so now everyone knows me as Teddeh :]
xzern: Favorite generation of pokemon?
Teddeh: I like gen 3 because it's the first gen I actually understood how to play and blaziken is awesome af. I used to play Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, and must have played Emerald a fuck tonne. I loved that game because you could catch all three of the legendaries. And weather was cool af. Plus I liked beating team Aqua and Magma, so yeah. :]
xzern: How did you come to competitive battling/Smogon?
Teddeh: I found a wilechase video on youtube and I was so interested on how competitive battling worked. Whenever I played on my ds, I never had any good friends to play against. So I was the noob who ran fire blast, hydro pump, blizzard on gyarodos :l. But by watching him, I gradually watched it enough to learn a little. One day, I was bored, and decided to join showdown. At this point I just copied the pokemon he used but wanted my own sets and I gradually subscribed to loads of different people like the flamingspade, rchizzle9, and 6fthax. I learned lower tiers gradually and played until I could actually learn it properly. Then it wasn't until when gen 6 came around that I started getting good. I just watched youtube videos to get analysis on pokemon to use. And then by the time RU came around, I had enough knowledge to make my own teams well.
xzern: What's your favorite part of NU?
Teddeh: I like that it requires solid team building that takes thought. with OU, you chuck 6 threatening pokemon together and be done. NU takes a lot of thought to make a good team or good strategy; hence when I have made a good team, I did well on the ladder and held number 1 and 2 for 3 or so weeks.
xzern: If you could ban or unban one thing from NU, what would it be/why?
Teddeh: I'd ban parafusion because it's stupid as fuck and if I can win an official tourney final with a parafusion team, then it's just fucked up. If I had to unban something, it would be sigilyth because it would help stop stall in the metagame. qol would have a shit fit.
xzern: NU player you most admire?
Teddeh: I don't "admire" anyone, but i have a lot of respect for flcl. he makes some insane ballsy predictions and actually taught me a thing or two (unintentionally). When I played him before, he created enough pressure with setup sweepers that I was forced to play a certain way, hence went and saved it. It was so simple yet genius at the same time. so I learnt a lot from him just by battling him.
xzern: Do you have any advice for people new to NU?
Teddeh: As much as I would like to help people with teams etc, I'd love people who are new to NU to make their own teams and be creative with everything that they make. see what works, see what helps another pokemon, and try and try again until you find what's right for you. I'm a little bit sick of people using sample teams (although I've contributed to that thread) that people can't use their own teams or put in the time and effort to do it themselves. That's what I love most about pokemon, the creativity. Hence why I have like 100+ teams at least.
xzern: Speaking of teams, could you give me something like a mini RMT to conclude the interview, one that demonstrates your teambuilding style?
Teddeh:
Thank you for your time iTeddeh, and maybe I'll see you next week with another Player of the Week.
