Please Rate My First OU Sandstorm Team

Hey there..

This team probably isnt good but I just want to know how to improve it, etc.

Tyranitar@Chople Berry
Trait: Sandstream
EVs: 252 HP / 64 SpA / 192 SpD
Sassy Nature
~ Stealth Rock
~ Crunch
~ Fire Blast
~ Ice Beam

I Use this as my Summoner for Sandstorm and I think that this is a semi strong special wall that is effective. It also serves as a tank for quite a while and has checks like Fire blast and ice beam.

Garchomp@Life Orb
Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
~ Sword Dance
~ Outrage
~ Earthquake
~ Stone Edge

This is for sweeping once its set up as well. I am not too sure about what to put in place for the stone edge or if I should keep it but with outrage and the jolly nature and sword dance.

Terrakion@Choice Band
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
~ Close Combat
~ Stone Edge
~ X-Scissor
~ Sacred Sword

Close Combat with the sacred sword and choice band makes for a very strong STAB attack. I feel like its attack stat paired with its stellar speed stat creates for a great alternate sweeper to Garchomp.

Skarmory@Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
~ Roost
~ Spikes
~ Whirlwind
~ Taunt

I use skarmory when I am in a tight spot, and need a defensive wall that causes damage to a certain pokemon. Taunt is used for causing damage and roost keeps my skarmory healthy.

Starmie@Choice Specs
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
~ Surf
~ Thunderbolt
~ Icebeam
~ Psyshock

Ok... so starmie is a really good check for counters to my team and can revenge kill a lot of my sandstorm pokemon weaknesses too. Especially with the 252 Spa.

Blissey@Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
~ Wish
~ Protect
~ Seismic Toss
~ Toxic

Blissey I use as my main special wall and this wish blissey is so strong. I can switch in blissey against a special attacker and throw toxic on them and protect. From here I can use Wish and switch into a different sweeper which heals my sweeper to full health even if they almost get 0HKO'd.

Sacred Sword on Terrakion? Im confused. As your running a band id suggest Quick Attack > Sacred Sword. This gives you some priority.
Starmie is your revenge killer? I dont like psychic types thate are choiced. If you have a sand weekness then choiced Starmie is going to add to that. As Tyranitar's Pursuit rips you to shreads.
I would suggest a choice scarf Rotom W > Starmie. This gives you more offensive presence whilst being able to trick walls, to cripple them, whilst at the same time revenge killing a lot of the meta game.

The Sets

Rotom W @ Choice Scarf
Timid : 252 Spe | 252 SpA | 4 Hp
Hydro Pump | Volt Switch | Hidden Power [Ice] | Trick

Good luck with the team

Thanks for the reply..

So do you mean to say that I should replace tyranitar crunch with pursuit? Also what is wrong with the starmie exactly? I ddint understand how it is supposed to add to the weakness.. It has moves that beat water, grass and fighting types... which are all types that destroy many of my pokemon.

I think you need to expand the descriptions a bit more.

Also, Sand Veil is Banned from OU, so you'll need to change the Ability to Rough Skin.

Abilities / Natures are also missing from some of the pokémon too.

I'll Echo RAYZORS ' suggestion about putting Rotom-W on the team it's good against Rain and can maintain momentum for your team with Volt Switch

Well I dont really know that much about the competitve scene yet to expand descriptions, but I'm considering putting Rotom W on the team now instead of starmie.

Im guessing your new to smogon, so welcome!

Pursuit is dark type and stops pokemon escaping as it hits before they switch. Starmie is psychic. Psyshock wont affect dark pokemon. Tyranitar can come in on your psyshock. Your locked into it. And he can pursuit trap you as if you switch you die.
So i suggested you swaped starmie for Rotom Wash to avoid this.

However pursuit is a good move so you can put it on your Ttar.

Is that clearer?? Good luck!

Yea, that makes sense. What move should I replace on my T-tar for pursuit?

On Ttar i would either swap Pursuit > crunch or i would go with a different set completely. Though I feel pursuit > crunch would be the best idea.

TTar: Ah, yes, Set-up Tar. The only thing you should think about replacing is Crunch wiht Pursuit for reasons EnterLAYZORS suggested. Don't forget to keep him alive if the other team has politoed/ninetales/Abomasnow.

Garchomp: Take out Stone Edge. Replace with Fire Fang, so you can hurt scizor, forentress, and Ferrothorn badly. +2 outrage will hurt flyers badly enough for you to not need stone edge.

Band Terrakion: either A) what EnterRAYZORS said,, Or B) Earthquake> Sacred sword.Your choice.

Skarmory: Take out taunt and replace with either Drill peck or Brave bird. That way you aren't completely shut down by faster taunters, and whirlwind will serve your anti-stat boosting needs.

Starmie: What EnterRAYZORS said.

Blissey: The EV Spread should be 252 HP/252/ Def/6 SpD. Blissey has enough special bulk to take quite a few attacks. without the 252 SpD

One more thing... if I wanted to put genesect in on this team, what would be the best poke to replace and what EV's, moves, and nature should it have?

Hello, and welcome to Smogon!

For this being one of your first OU teams, you did a good job! I like how you built the team, but I think you need some changes to make it work better. First off I suggest using a Defensive Spinner Starmie over your current Choice Specs set. This allows Starmie to retain bulk and be able to act as a solid spinner against Deoxys - D offense teams, something which your team struggles with at the moment. The set I suggest is 248 HP / 224 Spe / 4 SAtk / 34 Def Timid @ Leftovers Scald / Psyshock / Recover / Rapid Spin to guarantee hazards stay off the field. I also suggest making a change to Brave Bird on Skarmory instead of Taunt. This helps you actually damage threats such as Swords Dance Virizion, Terrakion, Salamence and Dragonite while you wall them. I would also suggest changing up Garchomp's set just a little with Yache Berry and Fire Fang instead of Life Orb and Stone Edge to get more additional coverage and longevity while being able to live stray Ice Shards and Hidden Power Ices.

The Pokemon that seems strangest on the team to me is Blissey. This team needs momentum and Blissey does nothing but break it. It does not have a place on an offensive team like this. Blissey is more of use on defensive teams which needs and utilize walls, Blissey doesn't cover much that another Pokemon can't, so it's makes it to most easily replaceable member. You have large weaknesses to Pokemon like Rotom-W and Special Landorus. It is for this reason I suggest changing to Latias with a Life Orb Variant to still gain momentum while also being able to defeat the perviously mentioned Pokemon. Latias is a great Pokemon in today's metagame and acts as a glue to teams like this. It also does not break momentum in the slightest and still acts as a great special wall of sorts, being able to take even boosted resisted hits with ease with it's huge base 130 Special Defense.

Latias @ Life Orb | Levitate
76 HP / 184 SAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Psyshock
- Recover

Good luck!
