Hi. I'm somewhat a newbie to the whole metagame of competitive pokemon. I have always loved pokemon, but since Black/White, and since this website exploded in popularity, I had been having a hard time winning matches. I recently discovered Pokemon Showdown, and it has been a fun experience. Now, I'm not a twat, I know what moves to use against who, I (for the most part) know who to set up with, but I don't like using this site for movesets; it feels like cheating, personally. I've eased into this EV thing about a year ago and accept the fact that people make their own pokemon. I have used this site to look up tiers and for recommendations, but I have never copy/pasted any moveset/item/ev/naature combo Some of my movesets may be similar to the ones others would look up and use, but that's just because I'm pretty experienced. Sorry for dragging this on, but I like playing NU now because I like being a hipster

Just kidding. But, I like playing NU because I appreciate the overlooked pokemon and I feel that some of them could actually be good.
Anyways, here's my team:
Vivillon @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Hurricane
- Bug Buzz
Vivi is a fairly decent battle starter, though I mostly start with Steelix. I've actually gotten 2 sweeps with it. I think people started catching on, because I started to see a few more of these little devils in [NU] when I play Pokemon Showdown after I started using it. But, it is easily countered with a faster flying or fire type. It has a bad Def/SpD, hence why I have it holding focus sash. I don't think this guy should change much. I actually think that this pokemon should be moved up to [UU].
Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Sassy Nature
- Trick Room
- Pain Split
- Earthquake
- Toxic
I chose Dusknoir because it spices things up a bit. Trick room and pain split are fairly effective at messing with the opponent. It does have some obvious holes, though. Toxic is useless against steel, and earthquake is useless against flying. I'd been thinking of switching toxic out for shadow ball, or one of the many punches it can learn (I was thinking maybe dynamic punch, mega punch, fire punch, or ice punch.) Any recommendations for this guy are greatly appreciated.
Weezing @ Rawst Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Clear Smog
- Toxic
- Shadow Ball
- Venoshock
Weezing is my poison guy. I've found clear smog to really help me out in tough situations (combined with trick room). Levitate helps a lot because poison does not like ground. Its major flaw is steel types. It has a Rawst berry because he is prone to getting Will-O-Wisp'd, because people can't toxic him. I really want recommendations for this guy.
Cryogonal @ Occa Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Freeze-Dry
- Confuse Ray
I've just recently discovered his guy, and I feel he's a better option for rapid spinner than Torkoal, my previous rapid spinner, because it has a better movepool and is faster. Recover is very useful. I don't know if I should swap out confuse ray for something else.
As I'm typing this, Cryogonal has been moved to [RU]. Back to Torkoal.
Torkoal @ Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 SpA
- Rapid Spin
- Lava Plume
- Amnesia
- Yawn
Torkoal is my rapid spinner. You may be thinking, "Will, Why did you put the EVs on Special Defense, but not Defense?" Well, I wanted him to have a balance of Special Defense and Defense. He has a pretty good base defense, and he is Sassy, which raises defense. You might recommend otherwise, and I am open to that, but just don't say doing that was a dumb move, because he has served me decently for a bit. Lava plume is there because I'd rather go for the burn rather than a bit more damage. Yawn makes them go to sleep, or forces them to switch.
Steelix @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def/4Atk
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Explosion
- Earthquake
I most often set up with this guy. His god tier defense really helps out in setting up. Some weaknesses: Any ground or fighting type. They both annihilate me. If they don't have a good fighting type, I usually do good with Steelix. I destroy lightweights with heavy slam, though.
Gorebyss @ White Herb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Shell Smash
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass]
Now, I will admit that Shell Smash and holding the white herb came from smogon. It used to be Life Orb and confuse ray. This pokemon becomes very useful if/when Vivi faints. Main weakness is any pokemon that outspeeds it.
I am open to all suggestions. Thank you so much for your time.
