Poison Ivy Stall Team!
Toxic + Seed
Hi! I'm pretty new to this, so I thought I'd give this a shot.
This team is VERY stall-based, so I'm not sure if it'll be effective with all the powerful wallbreakers and sweepers running around nowadays. Any feedback is welcome!
So here's the team at a glance:
Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP, 240 Def, 16 Spe
Nature: Bold
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Ice Beam
This is the typical tentacruel set with T-spikes and Spin. I added Giga drain as an option to increase its survivability, as it is a stalling team. Not sure if it's recommended over surf, though. The 16 speed is for taking care of Breloom. With T-spikes, tentacruel is able to set the rest of the battle up by making sure the opponent's pokes are toxic poisoned. It can also take out other leads like aerodactyl if they overpredict by using taunt.
Throh @ Leftovers
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Hp, 252 S.Def
Nature: Careful
- Circle Throw
- Bulk Up
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
The phazer. Also a sleep absorber. With maximum bulk in S.Def, Throh will be very durable with bulk up and rest/sleep talk. His only move is circle throw, so his purpose is very straightforward. While asleep, he'll gain the guts boost, which makes him a moderate threat physically. This is my main Ferrothorn/TTar counter. He will have trouble with ghosts, but I have a poke picked out to deal with ghosts that I will address later. The one problem I'm faced with is whether or not I should keep rest on there. Stone edge would be my other option, and it would be my only rock type move on the team. As a stalling team, I feel like durability is valued more...but at the same time, not having a rock move on my team may be a problem.
Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP, 28 Atk, 228 Def
Nature: Impish
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Earthquake
- Shadow Sneak
I chose dusknoir over jellicent as a spin blocker because of its offensive capabilities and its ability to dominate other ghost types. It also doesn't fear starmie. I prefer dusknoir over eviolite duscops because the leftovers recovery just seems more valuable. Shadow sneak with Dusknoir's base 100 Attack should be strong enough to take out other ghosts that would try to beat out dusknoir with shadow ball. The rest of the set is pretty standard and self-explanatory.
Jumpluff @ Leftovers
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 188 Def, 68 S.Def, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
- U-Turn
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Aromatherapy
The "cleric" and annoyer of the team. Jumpluff is my subseeder while also carrying aromatherapy to prevent my stallers from being statused. I put on U-turn instead of encore in case Tyranitar comes in and tries to trap with pursuit, which I believe a substitute won't survive and protect me from getting owned on switch-out. The EV spread was taken from D/P, and I'm not sure if they should be adjusted/updated.
I chose jumpluff over whimsicott because of aromatherapy.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP, 252 S.Def
IVs: 0 Spe
Nature: Sassy
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
Ferrothorn is great for setting up SR and spikes while giving the opponent residual damage from physical attacks, further wearing them down. I slashed leech seed and protect because this ferrothorn is ridiculously resilient. However, I'm not sure if it's worth losing SR and putting on leech seed (illegal together?).
Also, I'm not quite sure why people transfer 48 EVs from S.Def to Def...?
Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP, 252 S.Def
Nature: Careful
- Yawn
- Wish
- Baton Pass
- Protect
Umbreon is my favorite wish passer. Its bulk makes it so that it's hard for most other pokes to 2HKO it, allowing it to wish and heal itself. Though I don't have any stat-uppers on this team, I have this as a mean look passer in case I trap in a blissey or a wall that can't hurt ferrothorn, allowing me to set up three layers of spikes with little or no resistance. Protect is to guarantee wish to work. Yawn is also an option.
So this is my team. Many flaws, I'm sure. I might be trying to do too much, but I felt like trying something slightly out there. I hope you liked this team!
