Pokemon VGC San Jose Team

Pokemon VCG Team

Hello everyone, this is going to be the Pokemon Team I'm going to be using at the San Jose VCG and hope that i can get some real good feedback and hard criticism. I have choose this team and been play testing like crazy to finally come to what you see now. The team is made to counter Weather Teams,Tricky Room Team, and Stall Teams.

Thundurus
@Petaya Berry
Ability-Prankster
Timid(+Spd/-SpAtk)
SpAtk-252/Spd-252/Def-6
*Substitute
*Nasty Plot
*Thunderbolt
*Hidden Power-Fire

First is Thundurus which is the special sweeper and a real good lead. With substitute and prankster its stop Jellicent,Ferrothorn,Whimsicott,Galvantula,Amoonguss,and anything else that might try to slow him down. As most of the time this happens you get a free substitute and easily nasty plot. Also, using an old trick with substitute is having the petaya berry to boost its special attack if they are able to keep breaking it. As for the two other attacks are thunderbolt for STAB and hidden power-fire. Through out playtesting i found out hidden power-ice or focus blast were not effective in this meta.

Excadrill
Ability-Sand Rush
@Focus Sash
Jolly(+Spd/-SpAtk)
Atk-252/Spd-252/HP-6
*Sword Dance
*Earthquake
*Rock Slide
*Protect

Next is the broken Excadrill which i made sure i use him to the fullest power by teaching my Ferrothorn sandstrom letting me use Excadrill sand rush. As for the nature i made it jolly so i don't have to speed tie other Excadrills that might be adamant. The focus sash i like over the airballon because it makes sure i get at least one sword dance. (But i still might want to reconsider) As the moveset i believe its standard expect the protect which is use to setup sandstrom and maybe scout other movesets.

Hydreigon
Ability-Levitate
@Choice Scarf
Timid(+Spd/-SpAtk)
SpAtk-252/Spd-252/HP-6
*Draco Metero
*Fire Blast
*Surf
*Hidden Power-Ice

Yet another special sweeper. But with choice scarf and timid nature makes him an easy counter and comes in handy if I'm able to save him until the late game. His moveset is what i believe would be run in most Hydreigons. With moves such as surf to help Jellicent with water absorb and fire blast to hit hard for the lack of power,draco metero STAB and hidden power ice for good coverage.

Jellicent
Ability-Water Absorb
@Leftovers
Bold(+Def/-Atk)
HP-248/Def-216/Spd-44
*Will-O-Wisp
*Taunt
*Night Shade
*Recover

Jellicent is by far my favorite wall in gen 5 with an amazing ability and good move pool. The evs are so i can at least out run some other pokes so i can taunt them. Wil-O-Wisp,and Recover are standard the only thing i did was add night shade. I don't see the point of me using scald or surf in this meta because they would most likely switch to their Jellicent and i would never win. So with night shade i get the upper hand in the mirror match. As shadow ball i tested but didn't really like it.

Reuniclus
Ability-Magic Guard
@Life Orb
Relaxed(+Def/-Spd)
HP-252/Def-252/SpDef-6
*Clam Mind
*Recover
*Psyshock
*Focus Blast

Reuniclus is my counter to tricky rooms which i didn't see to many while play testing but twice i play tricky room team and lost. Its seems my fast Thundurus,Excadrill,and Hydreigon were no match for this type of playing style. So in that case I'm using a relaxed nature Reuniclus with life orb.
The moveset is standard with evs that make it bulkie enough to setup clam minds.

Ferrothorn
Ability-Iron Thorns
@Choice Band
Brave(+Atk/-Spd)
HP-252/Atk-252/SpDef-6
*Power Whip
*Gyro Ball
*Leech Seed
*Sandstrom

Last is Ferrothorn which is also use to counter tricky room or set up sandstrom. Yes this maybe the most werid moveset put on Ferrothorn but if i see that my opponent is not using Excadrill than i would setup sandstrom and protect with my Excadrill. Then al switch Ferrothorn for Thundurus or Hydeigon and I'm free to earthquake without worrying about me hurting my own pokemon. With choice band power whip and gyro ball become more useful than ever before. As for leech seed its just their and hardly gets any use so that's going to be change when i find a better move.

No it's not, unless you have like IVs of 30 or 28 (even IVs) across the board that spread is just wasteful.
Just go 6/252/252.

You could use some help here :)

Thundurus:
In VGC, you don't have the time to set-up, it's very fast paced. You could use Taunt, T-Wave or another coverage move in that slot.

Hydreigon:
Choice items are very limiting. Because doubles is a fast meta-game, you won't have time to switch when your opponent sends a counter (I've only seen choice items being effective on the last poke). I recommend switching the item for anything else (LO, Gems, etc...)

Jellicent:
._.
Really? Night Shade? Use Water Spout, Ice Beam, Shadow Ball or Scald, they will do more damaga than Night Shade in most scenarios.

Reuniclus:
As said before, you won't have time to set-up effectively. You could switch it for Shadow Ball for coverage, and change Focus Blast for HP Fighting (you don't wanna miss a focus blast)

Ferrothorn:
Same as Hydreigon, Choice Items don't go well with doubles. You can't afford to be switching all the time. Try a different item.

====================================

Overall, I don't see how you solve the issue of fighting TR and Tailwind, the 2 most common "weathers" in VGC11.

Golden Emp did a good job, and I'll try and follow up with more help:

Thundurus-Petaya Berry is not that great an item for Thundurus, because it doesn't get many chances to sub down. I'd recommend a Charti Berry to let it survive the ever-common Rock Slide. Hidden Power Ice gets better coverage than HP Fire. Nasty Plot should probably be replaced with Taunt or Thunder Wave, as Golden Emp said.

Excadrill-this looks like a set better off for singles. In VGC, you're not going to have much time to set up, and while you Sandstorm with Ferrothorn and Swords Dance with Excadrill you're going to get beaten. I would use X-Scissor instead of Swords Dance so you can hit common Trick Room users such as Musharna and Reuniclus for super effective damage.

Hydregion-Choice Scarf can be a useful item for Hydregion, though personally I'd run Chople Berry. If you are going to run a Scarf, then Hidden Power Ice can be replaced with Dragon Pulse so you don't wind up locked in to Draco Meteor. HP Ice gets largely redundant coverage anyway.

Jellicent-Taunting is better left to Prankster Pokemon such as Thundurus. I'd replace it with Hydro Pump and Night Shade with Shadow Ball. A Sitrus Berry would aid its longevity more than Leftovers.

Reuniclus-Reuniclus often doesn't have time to set up a Calm Mind, so you could replace that with Protect. Recover is usually best left to bulkier Pokemon such as Jellicent, and as you said this is to counter Trick Room. Recover should be replaced with Shadow Ball and Focus Miss Blast with Hidden Power Fighting, as Focus Blast's accuracy is shaky at best.

Ferrothorn-When you have two set up moves Choice Band is a really bad item choice. Chandelure is insanely common in VGC 11, so an Occa Berry would suit it best. The moveset seems fine, though.
