Entertainment Pokemon who got the shiny new toys they always wanted

Ok, having kinda dropped the last article idea we submited, Hulavuta has bugged me into thinking of a *better* idea, so we're doing a rundown of pokemon who got shiny new toys in the next generation.

The article won't attempt to be ranked, and not in depth competitively (what with the meta still emerging), but instead will be a humorous article, which just so happens to draw attention to some of the old mons with new tricks.

We intend to divide it into 7 main sub-headings, catchier titles pending

-Flareon & Entei: Cats got the moves
The implications of their new shiny STAB moves

-Scoliopede: Why you should be terrified
Speed Boost, More Attack, Poison typing.

-Mega Banette: The Haloween Special
Looks at all the potential given to it by Mega-Evolution

-Exploud: The heartwarming story of the early game normal 'mon who got every christmas at once
Mostly focussing on Boomburst and mocking Canada.

Shucke: [Title censored]
Wrap got boosted, it got stick web, we should all be scared.

Farfetch'd: Crits happens, then you die.
All about his new ability to crit aaaaaall night long.

Vanilluxe: The Icecream man cometh
It got Freeze Dry. Vanilluxe is inherently funny.

So yeah, we couldn't spot anything like it, and it's a comedy article written by myself and Hulavuta! About new things given to old mons.
Feedback/ questions/ anything else you do please.

This has the foundation for a good article. However, with XY being fresh out of the oven and with this topic being a VERY interesting topic out of a competitive perspective, I don't like the idea of labelling it as an Entertainment article. Farfetch'd, Vanilluxe and Flareon are some of the mons who could fit this article (on the fence about Shuckle as it has both SR and Sticky Web), because despite their new addition they'll still be fairly unsuccessful (Chatot also gets Boomburst fyi, as egg move). So if all nominees are of mons who'll overall be unsuccessful (ie NU or lower), I'd approve it, because I'm not allowing stuff like Speed Boost Scolipede in a humor article. Dat shit's serious.

Can you explain the though process behind a pokemons potential usefulness and whether or not it can be written about humourously?

I mean, i have no objection about complying, and i'm sure Hula is the same ... but i'm failing to see the reasoning behind it.

I agree with Bummer. There's really two directions you can go:

1. Discuss in a serious metagame (or OF, depending on how it's written) how underrated Pokemon become big threats with stuff they've been wanting for generations.

2. Discuss in a light-hearted way how all these bad mons with slight changes will totally "wreck" the competitive battling scene (as a joke, obviously).

Which means beforehand you have to actually look at what Pokemon you're talking about. If you're talking about legitimate threats that are coming up from NU with their new attacks/abilities, then yeah that shouldn't be joked about. Like Scolipede for example legitimately can be a huge influence on the higher tiers where Farfetch'd isn't really that great at all, and although it can flinch, Jirachi is better and is king of flinching. Also I'd steer away from Mega Evolution because I'd rather that was discussed more seriously in a competitive way, than in a humourous article. I like the idea behind it but you just need to be careful with the mons. Are there any other mons you'd consider?

I think i should clarify that the humour will be derived from the "Why Aggron will wreck your shit" posters vein, so the actual competency of the pokemon is irrelevant for the humour, just how much you can OTT the tools it has.

But next time i catch Hulavuta online, i'll discuss what we'll do about the Scoliopede substitute.
