NU Porygon2 [QC: 2/2] [GP: 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]

Porygon2's good Eviolite-boosted defenses and access to Trace make it one of the best special walls in the tier. Porygon2 utilizes Trace to great effect, copying abilities such as Chandelure's Flash Fire, Vaporeon's Water Absorb, Amoonguss's Regenerator, and Toxtricity's Punk Rock. Boasting an impressive Special Attack, Porygon2 can circumvent its passivity by threatening 2- or 3HKOs on most offensive Pokemon with Tri Attack or super effective coverage options. Porygon2's Normal typing is great for letting it be a general blanket check, but its lack of resistances can lead to it being overwhelmed, especially with its susceptibility to entry hazards, since it cannot run Heavy-Duty Boots. Porygon2 is also very vulnerable to physical attackers such as Incineroar and Gligar using Knock Off as well as Choice item users like Chandelure and Munkidori using Trick, since it relies heavily on Eviolite to boost its bulk. Additionally, Porygon2 struggles to threaten bulky Steel-types, such as Registeel and Bronzong, which can allow them opportunities to come in on it for free. On top of that, Porygon2 cannot handle Calm Mind setup sweepers like Sylveon and Scream Tail on its own, especially if they have Recovery moves, but it can slow them down with Thunder Wave, allowing a teammate to handle them.

Shadow Ball complements Tri Attack, hitting Ghost-types such as Chandelure, Decidueye, and Hisuian Typhlosion, while also dealing super effective damage to Bronzong. Porygon2 can also run a BoltBeam set. Ice Beam threatens Ground-types that might be tempted to switch into a Thunder Wave, such as Flygon and Gligar as well as Grass-types such as Breloom and Amoonguss, which are otherwise very threatening to Porygon2. Thunderbolt handles bulky Water-types like Milotic and Vaporeon that could otherwise chip down Porygon2 or Wish pass to allies for free. Foul Play is useful against any physical attackers, such as Basculegion-M, Scyther, and Tera Steel Flygon, as well as physically frail Pokemon such as Espeon and Munkidori. Trace gives Porygon2 amazing defensive utility, providing a massive advantage against a number of Pokemon. For example, it can Trace Vaporeon's Water Absorb, Porygon-Z's Adaptability, Munkidori's Toxic Chain, Toxtricity's Punk Rock, Chandelure's Flash Fire, Incineroar's as well as Paldean Tauros-W's Intimidate, and Klefki's as well as Tornadus's Prankster. Tera Ghost makes Porygon2 Fighting-immune and boosts the power of Shadow Ball. Alternatively, Tera Poison is an excellent defensive typing overall and prevents Porygon2 from being poisoned, which is vital against Pokemon like Munkidori, Alolan Muk, and Amoonguss that will attempt to cripple Porygon2 by poisoning it. Finally, Tera Fairy, if Porygon2 copies Flygon's Levitate, allows it to completely wall both of Flygon's STAB attacks while being a generally useful defensive typing. In addition to that, unlike Tera Ghost, Tera Poison and Fairy allow Porygon2 to resist Scrappy Flamigo's Close Combat.

Porygon2's weakness to Knock Off users and physical attackers, especially Fighting-types such as Flamigo, Toxicroak, and Heracross, means that it appreciates teammates that can switch into these Pokemon. Amoonguss and Galarian Slowbro make for excellent partners thanks to their Poison typing and Regenerator, allowing them to come in repeatedly throughout the game and tank hits from these threats. Avalugg is another physical wall that pairs well with Porygon2. Despite Avalugg still being weak to Fighting and Knock Off, Porygon2 covers many of its weaknesses by being a blanket special wall that can take on special attackers for it. In return, Avalugg removes entry hazards for Porygon2. Other hazard control options such as Defog Scyther and Altaria are also good partners for Porygon2, since they remove hazards for it while providing good defensive synergy with their Fighting resistances. Porygon2 also appreciates teaming up with physical wallbreakers, especially Fighting-types that can take advantage of bulky Steel-types, which Porygon2 tends to allow in. Flamigo, Paldean Tauros-W and -F, and Heracross are great for this, since they also have good defensive synergy with Porygon2 and appreciate it spreading paralysis to faster Pokemon. Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Milotic, and Tentacruel can spread status to physical attackers like Flamigo, Flygon, and Scyther that threaten Porygon2 while also checking Hisuian Typhlosion, one of the only special attackers that consistently carries Fighting-type coverage moves. These bulky Water-types also often carry phazing moves, which are very helpful against bulky setup sweepers like Registeel and Bronzong, which Porygon2 struggles against. Tentacruel can also provide Rapid Spin support for Porygon2.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Discharge can be used as an alternative to Thunder Wave, since it gives Porygon2 space for more offensive options while still letting it fish for paralysis, though Thunder Wave's guaranteed paralysis is generally preferred. Download can be used over Trace, boosting Porygon2's offensive power and making it more difficult for offensive threats to safely switch into it. However, Trace's overall utility is usually much better.

Checks and Counters
====

**Item Displacement**: Porygon2 relies on Eviolite for much of its walling power, meaning it is very susceptible to moves like Knock Off and Trick, which can remove the Eviolite. Many physical attackers such as Incineroar, Swampert, Alolan Muk, and Gligar carry Knock Off and can hinder Porygon2's bulk to allow partners to break through it more easily. Additionally, special attackers with Choice items, such as Chandelure, Porygon-Z, and Munkidori, can cripple Porygon2 by giving it a Choice item using Trick.

**Steel-types**: Porygon2 struggles against bulky Steel-types such as Registeel, Bronzong, and Copperajah. They aren't generally hindered by Thunder Wave and have ways to set entry hazards or boost their own stats, letting these Steel-types exploit Porygon2's lack of coverage to hit them. The first two also threaten Porygon2 with a powerful Body Press.

**Fighting-types**: Powerful physical Fighting-types such as Paldean Tauros-F and -W, Breloom, and Flamigo all threaten Porygon2 with their strong Close Combat. While most do not want to switch into a Thunder Wave, they can pivot in and force Porygon2 out, and Lum Berry Paldean Tauros formes as well as Poison Heal Breloom ignore Thunder Wave altogether and can use Porygon2 as a chance to set up with Bulk Up, Swords Dance, or Substitute.

[OVERVIEW]

Porygon2's good defensive stats boosted further by Eviolite, in addition to a great ability in Trace, makes it one of the best special walls in the tier. The Normal typing, while initially not seeming ideal, allows it to take on almost any special attacker in the tier, as special Fighting-type moves are not very good and most special attackers do not want to run them or do not have access to them. Trace is an amazing defensive ability that Porygon2 utilizes Trace to great effect, allowing it to copying Trace abilities like Flash Fire from Chandelure, Water Absorb from Vaporeon, Regenerator from Amoonguss, and many more. Porygon2 is also not very passive for a wall, boasting an impressive base 105 Special Attack stat, allowing it to threaten 2TKOes or 3TKOes 2- or 3-Hit KO's on most offensive Pokemon with a STAB boosted Tri Attack or super effective coverage options. However, Porygon2 is very susceptible to physical attackers using Knock Off, since it relies heavily on Eviolite to boost its bulk. It also struggles to threaten the bulky Steel-types of the tier, such as Registeel and Bronzong, which can allow them opportunities to come in on it for free. Porygon2 also cannot handle Calm Mind setup sweepers on its own, especially if they have Recovery moves, but it can slow them down with Thunder Wave, allowing a teammate to handle them.

Ice Beam is a good coverage option, threatening Ground-types that might be tempted to switch into a Thunder Wave, such as Flygon and Gligar. It also hits Grass-types such as Breloom and Amoonguss, who are otherwise very threatening to Porygon2. Shadow Ball is another good coverage move, generally paired with Tri Attack, comma to hit Ghost-types that are immune to Normal, such as Chandelure and Hisuian Typhlosion, while also dealing reliable damage to Bronzong. Thunderbolt is usually paired with Ice Beam, which lets Porygon2 threaten bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Milotic that could otherwise chip down Porygon2 or Wish pass to allies for free. Foul Play is useful against any physical attackers, such as Basculegion, and Scyther, and Tera Steel Flygon, or physically frail Pokemon such as Espeon and Munkidori. Trace gives Porygon2 amazing defensive utility, providing a massive advantage against a number of Pokemon. For example, it can Trace Vaporeon's Water Absorb, Porygon-Z's Adaptability, Munkidori's Toxic Chain, Intimidate from the many Intimidate users, Prankster from Klefki and Tornadus, Magic Bounce from Espeon Punk Rock from Toxtricity more relevant mon, and many many more. Tera Ghost makes Porygon2 immune to Fighting, its only weakness pre-Tera, and boosts the power of Shadow Ball. Additionally, if running Shadow Ball, Tera Ghost provides a useful STAB boost to it, allowing it to more easily threaten bulky Psychic-types such as Scream Tail, Bronzong, and Uxie. However Alternatively, Tera Poison is a great alternative, being a better is an excellent defensive typing overall and preventing prevents Porygon2 from being poisoned, which is vital against Pokemon like Munkidori, Alolan Muk, and Amoonguss who will attempt to cripple Porygon2 by poisoning it. Finally, Tera Fairy allows Porygon2 to completely wall both of Flygon's STAB attacks while being a generally useful defensive typing.

Porygon2's weakness to Knock Off and physical attackers, especially Fighting-types, means that it appreciates teammates who can switch into these moves. Some good partners include Dipplin with Sticky Hold and this mon is rubbish and nobody uses it Amoonguss and Slowbro-Galar make excellent partners with thanks to their Poison typing and Regenerator. Avalugg is another physical wall that pairs well with Porygon2. Despite Avalugg still being weak to Fighting and Knock Off, Porygon2 covers many of Avalugg's weaknesses by being a blanket special wall that can take on special attackers for Avalugg while Avalugg removes hazards for Porygon2. Porygon2 also appreciates teaming up with physical breakers, especially Fighting-types, that can take advantage of bulky Steel-types which Porygon2 tends to allow in. Flamigo, Paldean Tauros-W, Paldean Tauros-F, and Heracross are great for this, since they also have good defensive synergy with Porygon2 and appreciate Porygon2 spreading paralysis on faster Pokemon which would otherwise outspeed them. Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Milotic, and Tentacruel can spread status on physical attackers that threaten Porygon2, while also checking Hisuian Typhlosion, one of the only special attackers that consistently carries Fighting coverage. These bulky Water-types also often carry Phazing moves, which are very helpful against bulky setup sweepers like Registeel and Bronzong, which Porygon2 struggles against, and the latter can also spin for Porygon2.

I kinda want to mention entry hazards here, but theres already a lot listed, and well, everything takes damage from hazards. Up to you.
**Item Displacement**: Porygon2 relies on Eviolite for much of its walling power, meaning it is very susceptible to moves like Knock Off and Trick, which can remove the Eviolite. Many physical attackers such as Incineroar, Swampert, Alolan Muk, and Gligar carry Knock Off and can cripple Porygon2's bulk to allow partners to break through it. Additionally, special attackers with Choice items can cripple Porygon2 by Tricking it a Choice item, such as Chandelure, Porygon-Z, and Munkidori.

**Steel-types**: Porygon2 struggles against bulky Steel-types such as Registeel, Bronzong, Klefki, and Copperajah. They don't really care about Thunder Wave, and have ways of setting up hazards or boosting their own stats, letting them exploit Porygon2's lack of coverage to hit Steels. The first two also threaten Porygon2 with a powerful super effective Body Press.

**Fighting-types**: Powerful physical Fighting types such as Paldean Tauros-F and -W, Breloom, and Flamigo all threaten Porygon2 with their strong STAB Close Combats. While most do not want to switch into a Thunder Wave, they can pivot in and force Porygon2 out, and Lum Berry Tauros or Poison Heal Breloom ignore Thunder Wave altogether and can use Porygon2 as a chance to set up a Bulk Up, Swords Dance, or Substitute.

**Fast Taunt/Encore**: Porygon2 relies on Recover to heal and Thunder Wave to slow down attackers for its teammates. Thus, it is very susceptible to fast Taunt users such as Taunt Inteleon or fast Encore users like Scream Tail, Cinccino, and Alolan Ninetales. Inteleon can force Porygon2 to switch into a Water-type attack and then Taunt it, preventing Porygon2 from healing off the damage or crippling Inteleon with Thunder Wave, which can eventually allow Inteleon to beat it. Encore users can lock Porygon2 into Recover or Thunder Wave, allowing setup opportunities for themselves or allies and forcing Porygon2 to switch out.

Additionally, special attackers with Choice items, (AC) such as Chandelure, Porygon-Z, and Munkidori, (AC) can cripple hinder Porygon2 by Tricking giving it a Choice item, (RC) such as Chandelure, Porygon-Z, and Munkidori using Trick (reworded to fix gp error).

**Steel-types**: Porygon2 struggles against bulky Steel-types such as Registeel, Bronzong, Klefki, and Copperajah. They aren't generally hindered by Thunder Wave, (RC) and have ways of setting up to set entry hazards or boosting boost their own stats, letting them exploit Porygon2's lack of coverage to hit Steels these Steel-types. The first two also threaten Porygon2 with a powerful super effective Body Press (Copperajah has knock off and Klefki has trick, just saying).

**Fighting-types**: Powerful physical Fighting types Fighting-types such as Paldean Tauros-F, (AC) Paldean Tauros-W and -W, Breloom, and Flamigo all threaten Porygon2 with their strong STAB Close Combats Combat.

[OVERVIEW]

Porygon2's good defensive stats boosted further by Eviolite, in addition to a great ability in Trace, makes Eviolite-boosted defenses and access to Trace make it one of the best special walls in the tier. Porygon2 utilizes Trace to great effect, copying abilities such as Chandelure's Flash Fire from Chandelure, Vaporeon's Water Absorb from Vaporeon, Amoonguss's Regenerator from Amoonguss, and Toxtricity's Punk Rock from Toxtricity. Porygon2, boasting Boasting an impressive base 105 Special Attack stat, Porygon2 can circumvent its passivity by threatening 2- or 3HKOs on most offensive Pokemon with a STAB boosted Tri Attack or super effective coverage options. Porygon2's Normal typing is great for letting it be a general blanket check, but its lack of resistances can lead to it being overwhelmed, especially with its susceptibility to entry hazards, (AC) since it cannot run Heavy-Duty Boots. Porygon2 is also very vulnerable to physical attackers such as Incineroar and Gligar using Knock Off, (RC) as well as Choice item users like Chandelure and Munkidori using Trick, since it relies heavily on Eviolite to boost its bulk. Additionally, it Porygon2 struggles to threaten the bulky Steel-types of the tier, such as Registeel and Bronzong, which can allow them opportunities to come in on it for free. On top of that, (AC) (gets the idea across without sounding repetitive, since you said “also” two sentences ago) Porygon2 also cannot handle Calm Mind setup sweepers like Sylveon and Scream Tail on its own, especially if they have recovery moves, but it can slow them down with Thunder Wave, allowing a teammate to handle them.

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Details
====

Shadow Ball, (RC) which is best paired with complements Tri Attack, is a great coverage move to hit hitting Ghost-types that are immune to Normal, such as Chandelure, Decidueye, and Hisuian Typhlosion, while also dealing super effective damage to Bronzong. Porygon2 can also run a BoltBeam set. Ice Beam threatens Ground-types that might be tempted to switch into a Thunder Wave, such as Flygon and Gligar, (RC) as well as Grass-types such as Breloom and Amoonguss, who which are otherwise very threatening to Porygon2. Meanwhile, (RC) Thunderbolt handles bulky Water-types like Vaporeon Milotic and Milotic Vaporeon (changed order to fit with the rest of the statement) that could otherwise chip down Porygon2 or Wish pass to allies for free. Foul Play is useful against any physical attackers, such as Basculegion-M (Add hyphen), Scyther, and Tera Steel Flygon, or as well as physically frail Pokemon such as Espeon and Munkidori. Trace gives Porygon2 amazing defensive utility, providing a massive advantage against a number of Pokemon. For example, it can Trace Vaporeon's Water Absorb, Porygon-Z's Adaptability, Munkidori's Toxic Chain, Toxtricity's Punk Rock, Chandelure's Flash Fire, (AC) Intimidate from common users such as Incineroar's as well as and Paldean Tauros-W's Intimidate, and Prankster from Klefki's as well as and Tornadus's Prankster, (RC) Punk Rock from Toxtricity, Flash Fire from Chandelure, and many many more. Tera Ghost makes Porygon2 immune to Fighting, its only weakness pre-Tera, (RC) Fighting-immune and boosts the power of Shadow Ball. Alternatively, Tera Poison is an excellent defensive typing overall and prevents Porygon2 from being poisoned, which is vital against Pokemon like Munkidori, Alolan Muk, and Amoonguss who that will attempt to cripple Porygon2 by poisoning it. Finally, Tera Fairy, if Porygon2 uses Trace to copy copies Flygon's Levitate, allows Porygon2 it to completely wall both of Flygon's STAB attacks while being a generally useful defensive typing. In addition to that, unlike Tera Ghost, Tera Poison and Fairy allow Porygon2 to resist Scrappy Flamigo's Close Combat.

Porygon2's weakness to Knock Off users and physical attackers, especially Fighting-types such as Flamigo, Toxicroak, and Heracross, means that it appreciates teammates who that can switch into these Pokemon moves (i added “users” after koff so that i could say “pokemon” later, since “moves” was wrong, as u mentioned “Fighting-types”). Amoonguss and Galarian Slowbro make for excellent partners thanks to their Poison typing and Regenerator, (AC) allowing them to come in repeatedly throughout the game and tank hits from these threats. Avalugg is another physical wall that pairs well with Porygon2. Despite Avalugg still being weak to Fighting and Knock Off, Porygon2 covers many of Avalugg's its weaknesses by being a blanket special wall that can take on special attackers for Avalugg it. (Add period) In return, (AC) Avalugg removes entry hazards for Porygon2. (there were a lot of “Avalugg”s, this adds simplifies things and ensures clarity isn’t obscured by too many “it”s) Other hazard control options such as Defog Scyther and Altaria are also good partners for Porygon2, since they remove hazards for it while providing good defensive synergy with their Fighting resistances. Porygon2 also appreciates teaming up with physical breakers wallbreakers, especially Fighting-types, (RC) that can take advantage of bulky Steel-types, (AC) which Porygon2 tends to allow in. Flamigo, Paldean Tauros-W and -F, Paldean Tauros-F, and Heracross are great for this, since they also have good defensive synergy with Porygon2 and appreciate Porygon2 it spreading paralysis on to faster Pokemon which would otherwise outspeed them (self-explanatory). Bulky Water-types like Vaporeon, Milotic, and Tentacruel can spread status on to physical attackers like Flamigo, Flygon, and Scyther that threaten Porygon2, (RC) while also checking Hisuian Typhlosion, one of the only special attackers that consistently carries Fighting-type coverage moves. These bulky Water-types also often carry phazing moves, which are very helpful against bulky setup sweepers like Registeel and Bronzong, which Porygon2 struggles against (RC) and the latter . (AP) Tentacruel can also spin provide Rapid Spin support for Porygon2 (spilt into two sentences).

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Discharge can be used as an alternative to Thunder Wave, since it gives giving Porygon2 space for more offensive options while still letting it fish for paralysis, (AC) though .(Remove period) However, (provides diversity in sentences) Thunder Wave's guaranteed paralysis is generally preferred. Download can also be used as an alternative ability to over Trace, boosting Porygon2's offensive power and making it more difficult for offensive threats to safely switch into it. However, Trace's overall utility is usually much better.

Checks and Counters
====

**Item Displacement**: Porygon2 relies on Eviolite for much of its walling power, meaning it is very susceptible to moves like Knock Off and Trick, which can remove the Eviolite. Many physical attackers such as Incineroar, Swampert, Alolan Muk, and Gligar carry Knock Off and can cripple hinder Porygon2's bulk to allow their partners to break through it more easily. Additionally, special attackers with Choice items, (AC) such as Chandelure, Porygon-Z, and Munkidori, (AC) can cripple Porygon2 by Tricking giving it a Choice item, such as Chandelure, Porygon-Z, and Munkidori using Trick (reworded to fix gp error).

**Steel-types**: Porygon2 struggles against bulky Steel-types such as Registeel, Bronzong, Klefki, (not that bulky) and Copperajah. They aren't generally hindered by Thunder Wave, (RC) and have ways of setting up to set entry hazards or boosting boost their own stats, letting them these Steel-types exploit Porygon2's lack of coverage to hit them Steels. The first two also threaten Porygon2 with a powerful super effective Body Press (Copperajah has knock off and Klefki has trick, just saying - this is true & could be added, but if you do tell me afterwards, emikatana).

**Fighting-types**: Powerful physical Fighting types Fighting-types (Add hyphen) such as Paldean Tauros-F and -W, Breloom, and Flamigo all threaten Porygon2 with their strong STAB Close Combats Combat. While most do not want to switch into a Thunder Wave, they can pivot in and force Porygon2 out, and Lum Berry Paldean Tauros formes as well as or Poison Heal Breloom ignore Thunder Wave altogether and can use Porygon2 as a chance to set up a with Bulk Up, Swords Dance, or Substitute.

- “it” is best used after multiple repeated mentions or if used the antecedent was used earlier in the same sentence to provide context
- 2- or 3HlKOs, yeah, it looks ugly but is right
- [in reference to Shadow Ball] in general, try not to remove author’s voice, but this was a good change that clarified what the author meant
- make sure commas have a reason before deleting them (like closing off a dependent clause, though it may seem it’s randomly cutting off a clause that it shouldn’t be)
- ensure full names are used (Basculegion-M), also (and this one is weird but) “Paldean Tauros-F and -W” / “Oricorio-E and -G” is the correct way to write multiple formes
- typically better to say [Pokemon]'s [move / ability] than [move / ability] [filler words] [Pokemon], since it’s clearer more often
- using “it” for Avalugg was good, but the sheer amount just made it a bit confusing. sometimes splitting up the idea into two sentences is the best thing
- the “while providing” in reference to scyther and altaria was fine (i assume there was confusion in it referring to p2?)
- look at for fluff “spreading paralysis on faster Pokemon, which would otherwise outspeed them” [well, they’re faster, duh]
- cripple is allowed per gp standards. you can use other words if you’re adding stuff, but actively removing the author's voice is looked down upon generally. one of the cripple changes were good, though, since the author used quite a few very near each other
- “Lum Berry Tauros” technically means kanto tauros, formes must always be clarified
- very good job overall though, i enjoyed an easier load :), you were quite good at conciseness—just make sure you keep the author’s voice in the process
