Team At A Glance

Hey, what's up guys. I've been making a Rain Dance team with Tailwind support the last couple of weeks. You might be thinking, "Why does he have three Pokemon that are banned in the VGC?" Well, remember last year's VGC? (2010). They let us use some ubers that were banned in the year before that (2009). For a better explanation here were the Pokemon qualifications from last year's VGC:
During battle, a player's team of four Pokémon may not have more than two Pokémon from the list below. A player's Team Information Sheet may contain up to four Pokémon from the list below, as long as two non-restricted Pokémon are also listed on the sheet.
150 - Mewtwo
249 - Lugia
250 - Ho-Oh
382 - Kyogre
383 - Groudon
384 - Rayquaza
483 - Dialga
484 - Palkia
487 - Giratina

It's possible next year they'll also allow Zekrom, Reshiram, and Kyurem. Anyway, now on to the team.....

Downpour (Kyorge) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Drizzle
Nature: Timid
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
Choice Scarf can outspeed almost every Pokemon, and with Tailwind support he'll be fastest pokemon on the field. (I'm not exaggerating.) STAB Water Spout with rain support will have a deadly 300 base power with full HP, giving Kyorge the ability to OHKO many Pokemon on turn one suck as Terrakion, the Genies, Groudon, Ho-oh, etc. Surf has good coverage just like Water Spout, it has STAB, and even if it does hit my Pokemon, it won't do much because of its Pokemon type. Thunder has 100% accuracy in Rain, and Ice Beam will take care of my Dragon and Grass weakness.

Cloud (Thundurus) @ Electric Gem
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Timid
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Thunder
- Rain Dance
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave
Thundurus is blessed with the Prankster ability, and I want to use it to my advantage. STAB Thunder with Electric Gem has a base power of 240, which is pretty strong. You might be thinking, "Why Rain Dance?" Well if another weather condition comes along, I DO NOT want to switch out Kyorge because it wastes a turn. Rain Dance will set up first and I won't have to worry about another weather condition. Not many Pokemon carry Mental Herb in the VGC. Taunt can stop TR teams, Whimsicotts, opposing Genies, etc. Thunder Wave will cripple fast Pokes, so I can outspeed them easily.

Boreas (Tornadus) @ Flight Gem
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Timid
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Hurricane
- Tailwind
- Taunt
- Substitute
The twin of Thundurus has many counterparts of Thundurus' moves, including Hurricane. Just like Thunder, Hurricane has 100% accuracy in rain. The only difference is that Hurricane causes confusion instead of paralysis. People like to use Acrobatics, but Hurricane is stronger. Tornadus' Atk and SpA base stats are the same, so Hurricane is the better choice. STAB Hurricane has 240 base power with Flight Gem, just like Thunder. Of course Tailwind will make my Pokemon extremely fast, even though they already are. Tailwind will let my Pokemon outspeed +2 Terrakion, and many others. I know I already have a Pokemon using Taunt, but this is just in case Thundurus is down and out in a situation where I need Taunt. Subsitute is pretty obvious. It really annoys people sometimes, which is useful.

Meteor (Palkia) @ Haban Berry
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Timid
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Spacial Rend
- Thunder
- Surf
- Earth Power
Palkia is really powerful with Kyorge support, especially because it has dual STAB's. Spacial Rend can OHKO the strong Dragon-types with a chance of a critical hit. Thunder is obvious, as I've explained it a lot, and Surf has good coverage, and is powerful with rain support and STAB, OHKO'ing Terrakion, Groundon, Chandelure, Ho-oh, and many others. Dual Surfs with Kyorge and Palkia can be very deadly, too. Earth Power takes care of my Electric-type weakness. Palkia can counter almost any attack, and has the ability to throw back an OHKO.

Dragoon (Kingdra) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
Nature: Modest
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Surf
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
- Protect
Despite Kingdra's poor movepool, I managed get some pretty good moves. STAB Surf is deadly with a dual Surf with Kyorge or Palkia, causing massive damage. Kingdra's speed is doubled in Rain because of Swift Swim, and it can OHKO opposing Dragon-types first with Draco Meteor. Kingdra's stats are pretty solid and well distributed, also. Ice Beam can stop Dragon and Flying-types, 2HKO'ing them or OHKO'ing them. Protect can be useful, but I'm not sure that's the best move I can use for Kingdra. If you any suggestions with a replacement move for Protect, I'd appreciate it. But of course, Kingdra has dual STAB's and can counter many many Pokemon.
EDIT:

Goomba (Amoonguss) @ Leftovers
Ability: Effect Spore
Nature: Calm
EV's: 252 HP/160 SpD/40 Def/52 Spe
- Spore
- Protect
- Rage Powder
- Giga Drain
Hopefully there will be a team preview in the VGC next year, because if Kyorge is one of my leads, and I see a HUGE threat like Ludicolo, Amoonguss can Rage Powder so a possible Grass Knot won't kill my Kyorge. Spore will allow my Pokemon freedom to attack, and just in case there is Taunter, Giga Drain is there so Amoonguss won't be completely overpowered. Protect is just to obviously protect my Amoonguss from a threat while my other Pokemon kills the threat. Special thanks to Wildfire, I did not realize Ludicolo was a huge threat, and others.
Failed Pokemon:

Wavecade (Lugia) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Timid
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Aeroblast
- Roost/Recover
- Weather Ball
EDIT: If anyone can give me a threat list for my team, that'd be great.
