Power Vs Obsession.. the wicked Shoddy Warstory

Since the spring break, I've been playing in Shoddy alot, and this battle is one of the most interesting ones, I have to say..even though I acted a little stupid at some points.

The battle is me (Metal power) Vs ObsessedDude.

Here's my team (in order of appearance):

I'm in Blue.
ObsessedDude's in Orange.
Damage "direct and undirect" are in Red.
Health recovery "Move and item" are in Green.
Pokemon are in Brown.
Pokemon moves are in Dark Blue.
Status conditions are colored in Silver.
Gendered Pokemon's symbols are colored too (Blue Male/Red Female).
Critical hits are in Gray.

Let the battle begin!

Vs
dpmfa006.png

Metal power sent out Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario).
ObsessedDude sent out Charizard (lvl 100 Charizard ).
Metal power switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey ).
Charizard used Flamethrower.
Blissey lost 21% of its health.
Charizard lost 10% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.

I didn't know if Charizard was Physical or Special, so I decided to switch into Blissey which will probably survive the Flare blitz if Physical (and then Protect scouts), and definitely Flamethrower if special. Luck was on my side (atleast for now) since it turned out to be probably pure special.. So I stayed in and selected T-Wave to paralyze whatever switching in (hopefully not Heracross).

dpffa242.png
Vs
dpmfa143.png

ObsessedDude switched in Snorlax (lvl 100 Snorlax).
Blissey used Thunder Wave.
Snorlax is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.

Like I said, I paralyzed what he's sent in, which is Snoralx (thank god it's not Heracross), but the thing is Snorlax wouldn't mind the paralyzation much, also Blissey can't stay in and be eaten alive by that hungry beast, so I switched to..

Metal power switched in Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).
Snorlax used Return.
It's not very effective...
Metagross lost 29% of its health.
ObsessedDude switched in Donphan (lvl 100 Donphan).
Metagross used Meteor Mash.
Donphan lost 50% of its health.
Donphan's leftovers restored its health a little!
Donphan restored 6% of its health.

So I switched Metagross into Snorlax "thinking: "eat this you hungry beast", knowing Meteor Mash 2KOs, and EQ doesn't OHKO me, but then ObsessedDude made me drink my own "medicine"..well sortta, by switching into Donphan, I didn't want to risk keeping Metagross in "even though EQ doesn't OHKO unless maybe CB", so I chose the safer choice by switching into..

Metal power switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Donphan used Earthquake.
Starmie lost 49% of its health.
Donphan's leftovers restored its health a little!
Donphan restored 6% of its health.
ObsessedDude switched in Slowking (lvl 100 Slowking).
Starmie used Surf.
It's not very effective...
Slowking lost 12% of its health.
Slowking's leftovers restored its health a little!
Slowking restored 6% of its health.

I switched into Starmie, because EQ doesn't OHKO it "CB either OH or nearly OHKOes", and Surf deals with it, ObsessedDude switches in Slowking to absorb the Surf, however, dealing only 6% of damage to him after his Leftover's recovery.. now I have to switch into..

dpffa242.png
Vs
dpmfa199.png

Metal power switched in Blissey (lvl 100 Blissey).
Slowking used Thunder Wave.
Blissey is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Slowking's leftovers restored its health a little!
Slowking restored 5% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.

I switched in Blissey..well to special wall it, I did the wrong move by clicking T-Wave because Donphan might switch in, add to that that Slowking Paralyzed me but the hax prevented me from using T-Wave... I have to switch into Starmie incase Donphan switches in but first I have to..

dpffa242.png
Vs
dpmfa232.png

ObsessedDude switched in Donphan (lvl 100 Donphan).
Blissey is paralysed! It can't move!
Donphan's leftovers restored its health a little!
Donphan restored 6% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 2% of its health.
Donphan used Earthquake.
A critical hit!
Blissey lost 76% of its health.
Blissey used Wish.
Blissey made a wish!
Donphan's leftovers restored its health a little!
Donphan restored 6% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored 6% of its health.

I clicked on Wish in order to recover Starmie's HP, but luck left my side..and went over to ObsessedDude's, it also gave him a critical hit >_>.. I used Wish again.. and now time for you Starmie!

Metal power switched in Starmie (lvl 100 Starmie).
Donphan used Earthquake.
Starmie lost 51% of its health.
Metal power's Starmie fainted.
Donphan's leftovers restored its health a little!
Donphan restored 6% of its health.
Metal power switched in Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario).
Lucario used Hidden Power(Grass).
It's super effective!
Donphan lost 81% of its health.
ObsessedDude's Donphan fainted.

Ok, this sucks, first time Donphan used EQ on Starmie it did (49%), and now it did (51%), if it didn't I'd survive with 2% and then become 52% with Wish, then probably OHKO with Surf, but that didn't happen, ok since now my dear Starmie fainted, its time for a "revange" kill, only with Lucario's HP(Grass) "I use HP Grass to deal with annoying Swampert".

Blissey lost 19% of its health.
Charizard lost 10% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!
Blissey restored6% of its health.
Charizard used Flamethrower.
Blissey lost 17% of its health.
Metal power's Blissey fainted.
Charizard lost 10% of its health.

( 4 me - 5 ObsessedDude )

Ok..this sucks too, I switched into Blissey since he switched to Charizard, but I didn't think the second FT would KO "I clicked on T-Wave"..Ah well..time for a real revange kill..

dpmfa445.png
Vs
dpmfa110.png

Metal power switched in Garchomp (lvl 100 Garchomp ).
ObsessedDude switched in Weezing (lvl 100 Weezing ).
Garchomp used Stone Edge.
Weezing lost 26% of its health.
Weezing's leftovers restored its health a little!
Weezing restored 6% of its health.

We both switched, he probably switched expecting something to counter Charizard..sence now that he switched into Weezing, I can't risk my Garchomp eating a WoW..instead..

Metal power switched in Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario ).
Weezing used Will-o-wisp.
Weezing's attack missed!
Weezing's Leftovers restored its health a little!
Weezing restored 6% of its health.
Lucario used Dragon Pulse.
Weezing lost 57% of its health.
Weezing used Will-o-wisp.
Lucario was burned!
Lucario was hurt by its burn!
Lucario lost 12% of its health.
Weezing's Leftovers restored its health a little!
Weezing restored 6% of its health.
ObsessedDude switched in Snorlax (lvl 100 Snorlax).
Lucario used Dragon Pulse.
Snorlax lost 28% of its health.
Lucario was hurt by its burn!
Lucario lost 12% of its health.

So I switched into Lucario to absorb WoW and 2KO with Dragon Pulse, also luck came to me begged my forgiveness by making WoW miss, but that's not a big deal so I didn't forgive it, and the next turn it went to ObsessedDude's and made WoW hit and then making him switch into Snorlax..so now I have to switch into..

Metal power's Metagross fainted.
Metal power switched in Garchomp (lvl 100 Garchomp).
Garchomp used Outrage.
Garchomp went on a rampage!
Snorlax lost 72% of its health.
ObsessedDude's Snorlax fainted.

( 3 me - 4 ObsessedDude )

I knew that Snorlax's EQ doesn't OHKO Metagross at full health, but what I didn't know that it does OHKO at ~70% health, but I revanged for my beloved favourite Metagross, by switching in Garchomp on going on a rampage!...that's not so good after that since I'm trapped now..what will I do now? most importantly what does ObsessedDude store for me?..let's find out..

ObsessedDude switched in Rampardos (lvl 100 Rampardos ).
Garchomp used Outrage.
Rampardos lost 99% of its health.
Rampardos used Rock Polish.
Rampardos's speed was sharply raised.
Garchomp's rampage ended.
Garchomp became confused!

( 3 me - 3 ObsessedDude )

Weezing again, but he turn out the least of my worries, since Outrage finished him off, but then Ramparados "shiny" came in, and I knew it probably had Focus Sash + Rock Polish, put I was trapped, thank god the rampage ended in two not three turns (I couldn't risk choosing Outrage again because of Confusion + another Trap).. well now have to make a sacrifice..

Rampardos lost 1% of its health.
ObsessedDude's Rampardos fainted.

( 2 me - 2 ObsessedDude )

Sorry Weezing, but a sacrifice had to be made, and I revanged your death with Garchomp's EQ.

I can't keep Garchomp in since he'll probably switch in Charizard to absorb the EQ..so I switch to..

dpmfa448.png

ObsessedDude switched in Charizard (lvl 100 Charizard ).
Metal power switched in Lucario (lvl 100 Lucario ).

Charizard used Flamethrower.
It's super effective!
Lucario lost 34% of its health.
Metal power's Lucario fainted.
Charizard lost 10% of its health.

( 1 me - 2 ObsessedDude )

I predicted correctly, but I made a mistake by keeping Lucario in, I guess I was afraid that he'd predict Garchomp and use Dragon Pulse..well now I only have Garchomp..will you save me? I sure hope so..

dpmfa445.png
Vs
dpmfa006.png

Metal power switched in Garchomp (lvl 100 Garchomp ).
Garchomp used Outrage.
Garchomp went on a rampage!

ObsessedDude's Charizard fainted.

( 1 me - 1 ObsessedDude )

So far so good, I choose Outrage in order to hit ObsessedDude's final Pokemon neutral "unless it was a steel type, but that could not have happened because I knew he had only Slowking left", so can you beat Slowking Garchomp? I sure hope so! I believe in you Garchomp!

dpmfa445.png

ObsessedDude switched in Slowking (lvl 100 Slowking ).

Slowking lost 28% of its health.
ObsessedDude's Slowking fainted.
Metal power wins!
ObsessedDude: gg
Metal power: gg

( 1 me - 0 ObsessedDude )

And so, I won, but the battle against Slowking was soo intense, and I was afraid if he did or didn't carry IB, but thank god it didn't, and ObsessedDude made the wrong choice when he selected Surf, which lead him to his Slowking's death and my victory.

Now time for pros and slops:-

Pros:
* Garchomp for being a beast and knocking down many of my opponent's Pokemon.
* My opponent for smart switching and predicting.
* Blissey for walling and scouting Charizard, as well as paralyzing Snorlax and Slowking before it went down.
* Lucario for revange killing Donphan with HP Grass.
* Metagross for scaring Snorlax.

Slops:
* Making Lucario stay in.
* EQ doing 51% instead of 49% on Starmie and fainting it.
* My opponent for choosing Surf which led to my victory.
* I could have predicted better and saved me some Pokemon.

Wow..this took me forever to write and format... well I hope you enjoy it!

I thought strict damage clause made sure that each move did the max damage possible. That's weird, considering that EQ did differing amounts to Starmie.

I don't know, that's why I didn't expect Donphan doing more than 49%..

Edit: The strict damage concept is correctly explained by Tochukaso.

I always thought it meant that if the attack KO'd a pokemon, it wouldn't display how much overkill it had, making it harder to immediately identify CB'd pokemon. Just like the game, when you can only tell up to 100% damage.

Strict damage caps the damage at 100% - that is, attacks never go past 100% like the do in normal battles without the clause. I think this is to stop damage calcs. Similarly, if a pokemon is at 30%, an attack can only do 20% damage to it.

Edit: beaten

Strict damage just means that the max damage the attack can do is 100%. If you don't have the clause on, it will say ________ did 230% damage or something similar.

Nice warstory.
Thanks for correcting the concept, as well as the complement.

Oh, I didn't know that. I can't get shoddy to work... Anyways, I thought this was a pretty cool warstory.

playing on shoddy would be dumb and mechanical if "strict damage" made all moves do 100% of their total dmg capability, especially when smart battlers tweak their EVs to make sure that they deal 53% minimum as a 2HKO on leftovers using walls.

anyhow you can always expect a deviation of between .85 and 1.0 of maximum damage :P in fact, how are you to know that 49% wasn't near the minimum of damage able to be dealt to starmie? >_> exactly.

metalkid is saying with the standard starmie, and assuming donphan is impish with 4 attack EVs

Damage: 48.36% - 56.58%

I didn't, I just went on luck, which was a stupid move, I know.

lol. today i was playing on shoddy, and got a crit which did ithink 61%. the next turn it i used the same attack, no crit, and it did 40%. same two guys were out, so iono what happened.

also, nice battle. and the format was great as well. better than the normal boring shoddy log style.

I couldn't read the battle, all the sprites and colors hurt my eyes and I can't tell what's was going on anywhere. Color coding is fine and all, but you don't have to color code everything, or put in every switch in my opinion. I want to read a warstory, not be distracted by everything else thrown into the middle of it.

Thank you guys, as for the colors, I didn't know it could bother you, since I wanted to make the format as best as I can, but there are other people who liked it..so thanks "because formatting took forever to make it all happen".

@[.darkie] Steel is my favourite type, but it doesn't mean I'd make most of my team Steel, and there're two steel types "Lucario which is my second fav and Metagross which is my ultimate favourtie".

colors are fine, but some colors are hard to read... like the green

there is a problem with the score. when your lucario died, it should have been 1-2, you had 2-2

surf wasn't an error, he could have either tried to kill you, or hoped for confusion hax (which only did 20ish)

he was hoping to hit you while you hit yourself in confusion
instead of healing 0% with slack off
he couldn't out stall you. you were doing 70%

decent battle though

I have edited the score, and I don't think he tried to kill me, but maybe relying on the confusion hax, but hey luck was on my side, and I won, like I said it was very intense, as for the green, its just for Recovery, I might change it, but it'd take alot, maybe later.

Well, thanks for the C+C.

I thought strict damage clause made sure that each move did the max damage possible. That's weird, considering that EQ did differing amounts to Starmie.

Strict damage clause means that once you get to KO a foe, it shows the actual % damage you dealt. If you don't use the clause thins like this may happen:

heracross used close combat
tyranitar lost 240%
tyranitar fainted

It doesn't really matter, but maybe this could count if you used a move that does you recoil damage (i'm not sure about this).

I thought the reason that it was used was so that it wasn't immediately obvious whether or not something is CB'd or not. Like in the Heracross example, based on how much overkill there is, you could tell what item it's holding.
