I've had some pretty good success with my OU teams and my wins triple my losses, although I started out rocky and I am only ranked at about 1800 at the moment. Anyway, this is a pretty new team that I've made, and I'd like to make some improvements. My wall core is pretty solid, centered around team player tyranitar (max hp max special defense) and captain jack (gourgeist). Fairy is the only super effective typing that hits ttar that gorgeist doesn't resist. Anyway, let's get to it.
Rotom-Wang (Rotom-Wash) @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest
This is waaaay too standard, and there's good reason for it. It's amazing and shuts down one of the biggest threats, talonflame. However, since I already have Ttar to wall talonflame, and gourgeist for the WoW, I would consider rotom-wang (nickname is because asians work as washers lol) one of the more expendable pokemon, even though the coverage and utility provided is incredible.
MC Hammer (Gengar) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Disable
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
Btw, I'm pretty proud of my nicknames, lol. If they are too much of a stretch, let me know. Gengar is obviously MC Hammer though, because "Can't touch this", a very fitting name in my opinion for sub disable gengar. Anyway, this thing is a beast. It's been my favorite pokemon since 1st gen, and I had huuuuge success with it on my 2100+ teams in 5th gen. Sentiments aside, this thing has caused so many rage quits, and sets up subs easily, and with the right mindgame/predictions, has allowed me to roll through teams. However, because the typing overlaps with gourgeist, I'm not sure if there is a better alternative.
Fawkes U (Talonflame) @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
BIG ASS THREAT. Nuf Said. (Nickname is from Fawkes the pheonix in harry potter)
BigNig (Tyranitar) @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
Power, Bulk, Badassness. 3 words for Ttar. Even with max hp max sp def, it's attack is still ridiculously high from its mega evolution stats. Aside from packing a punch, its main roll is setting up stealthrocks and walling or sponging hits from many threats most prominently talonflame. Setting up stealthrocks is no problem because nothing (except very predictable stab physical fighting moves) are OHKOing this. The only problem I have with it, is that I lose leftover recovery, which limits its sponging potential. I most definitely am using a wish-passer in Pokebank, but in Pre-bank, I have a few concerns about ttar being mega, as regular ttar does the same job quite nicely and successfully anyway. I'll get into this later.
Carl Fredriksen (Excadrill) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 176 HP / 48 Atk / 80 Def / 204 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head
Carl Fredrisken, if you don't get this nickname, I am disappoint. Bulky excadrill set for maximizing its potential to rapid spin. Air balloon allows it to switch in without taking spikes damage or being slowed from sticky web. It's defensive Ev's allow it to take an aqua jet from Azumarill and Hydro pump from standard rotom-wash. Mold Breaker allows it to in return knock out rotom-wash along with gengar. This is my second expendable pokemon. I will again get into this more after I finish introducing STAR PLAYER.
Captain Jack (Gourgeist-Super) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pickup
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 SDef
Impish Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Seed Bomb
- Leech Seed
- Shadow Sneak
Trevenent can go suck a d... Gourgeist is a much more reliable pokemon for the purpose of walling. Trevenent is a little gimicky and to be honest, just frustrating. Trevenent's defensive capabilities are limited, and I need a switch in to take all hits aimed at Ttar. Captain Jack does a fantastic job of not only sponging, but completely walling almost every pokemon that threatens Ttar. Their synergy is incredible.
Ok, so that's the team. There are not many pokemon I have trouble with. Choice Banded Azumarill is the only thing that can break my wall core. But Talonflame can revenge kill and excadrill and rotom can both take a hit. My concern with the team however lies with those two pokemon. As stated earlier, I don't necessarily need my mega to be tyranitar, as it does its job fine without it, and it gets recovery via leftovers. Also, I have two ghosts on my team to spinblock, but only stealthrocks. I think I could abuse hazards with my setup. Also, since I have no scarfers, and my team is relatively slow, I think sticky web would be a very nice addition. In this case, I would switch out rotom-wash for galvantula, who can upkeep the utility rotom brings and act as a psuedo rotom with its voltswitch. To make up for the coverage, I would replace excadrill with mega blastoise (modest max hp max sp att). Megablastoise is slow and also snerygizes well with sticky web, along with being a reliable, powerful spinner because I'd like to see a ghost type switch in on Mega Blastoise's essentially stab Dark Pulse. But if I were to do this, I'd also lose my checks to azumaril, but I'd still be able to revenge kill it easily with almost all my pokemon being faster than it due to sticky web. So, all in all, what do you think of my team, and should I make those two substitutions, or do you have another suggestion?
