In the B/W era I began to get into the competitive battling thing. This generation I want to seriously go through and battle more. And actually do in game, not just on Pokemon Showdown. So here's the team I built! Tested on PS and is pretty solid and only has problems with breaking walls sometimes. So here's my team:
Cloyster (M) @ King's Rock
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Ice Shard
This Pokemon was the bane of my existence when I tried competitive battling for the first time. So why not include him on my team? So this is the standard set, pass a Shell Smash and proceed to sweep. The King's Rock has saved me more than a few times too, if I get lucky enough with it. Cloyster is great at dealing with annoying dragons and special walls, and of course to break subs. The Jolly nature and EVs let it outspeed most threats after a shell smash.
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Gooey
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 SDef
Modest Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
My special wall. Goodra is extremely specially defensive, especially with the Assault Vest. It has great coverage as well. The Modest nature increases Sp. Atk because I felt it had enough Sp. Def and gets off really well. It can tank even some supereffective Dragon or Ice type moves well. Dragon Pulse for STAB, Thunderbolt for Charizard, Talonflame, water types, etc. and Flamethrower and Ice Beam for more coverage.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 48 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Protect
My physically wall and check to Mega Kanghaskan. The Iron Barbs combined with Rocky Helmet sucks, especially to foes who like to hit more than once. I usually lead with Ferrothorn, and his Rocks may not be up fast but his bulk allows for them to be set up, unless dealing with a fire type. Gyro Ball has amazing power with the Relaxed nature and all in all Ferrothorn is pretty solid to cover the other half of attacks that Goodra can't.

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 60 Atk / 176 HP / 252 SDef / 20 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Rock Slide
The Obligatory rapid spinner. This is a standard Excadrill set. The EV spread is for the bulk needed to pass a few spins while still getting enough speed to outspeed uninvested base 90s. If he can pass a sword dance he becomes a big threat as well, and that increases his overall ability. Not much to be said here about moves, just a normal set for Excadrill.

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
The Focus Sash, suggested by newtonja actually works really well. I also repleaced Psychic with HP Ice because it seems to simply work out better and provides nice coverage in situations where Psychic is just kind of there. Psyshock over Psychic because there are more specially defensive mons out there.

Volcarona @ Life Orb
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Hidden Power [Ground]
I really like this bug. He's got good coverage and Quiver Dance is an amazing no-drawback setup move. While he falls quickly he is good at taking a lot of pokés with him. The hidden power ground is there to deal with pesky rock types. Great sweeper overall.
So there's my team, and it's the first I really built myself so please don't be too harsh... But by all means tell me how it can improve!
