Hi! This is a semi-weather team that I created, one that utilizes Sand but in reality relies on a Volt-Turn Core; hence the name "Sand Screen". Here are my team members:
Team at a glance:
Tyra (Tyranitar) @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
Sassy Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 6 Atk / 252 SpDef
-Stealth Rock
-Pursuit
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
My tank-lead and hazard-setter. Tyranitar is scary enough to induce a switch, giving it a free turn to set up Stealth Rock. If a switch is correctly predicted Tyranitar can opt instead to deal heavy damage with Pursuit for heavy damage (and an instant kill on Magic Bounce Espeon). This thing is a special tank, and with its bulk and Sandstorm up it can tank even Super-Effective Special Attacks. Earthquake and Rock Slide provide coverage against multiple threats, particularly Flying and Fire-types, which are common. It's kinda slow though, but I prioritized bulk to keep it alive and change the weather when needed in order to set the stage for:
Lester (Excadrill) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
Adamant Nature
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
-Swords Dance
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide / Shadow Claw
-Rapid Spin
My sweeping Rapid Spinner. Excadrill's drop from Uber to OU has given OU access to one of the best spinners around. EQ with Rock Slide is a great coverage combo for Excadrill, but since Tyranitar is already running Rock Slide (STAB for Tyranitar) then Shadow Claw is another option in order to deal massive damage to all spinblockers, particularly Trevenant and Gourgeist. Swords Dance is there to take advantage of when the opponent switches, and Sand Rush ensures that, barring priority, Excadrill will go first almost all the time as long as Sand is up. A +2 EQ will sweep most teams, but the lack of Mold Breaker is kind of a dilemma.
Jiminy Steel (Scizor) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Adamant Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 SpDef
-Bullet Punch
-U-turn
-Pursuit
-Brick Break
The first half of my Volt-Turn core. This is a typical Choice Band Scizor set geared for pure offense, with enough bulk to absorb one or two hits before hitting back with Bullet Punch. It hits hard enough to OHKO or 2HKO most non-walls in the tier, and its only weakness, Fire, is covered by both Tyranitar and Excadrill. Scizor is also the designated Fairy-killer, and provides much needed coverage with its plethora of attacks. The lack of Superpower in the pre-bank game has led me to put in Brick Break instead in order to help Scizor damage Steel-types. It needs support, though, particularly against faster Attacking threats.
Mr. Clean (Rotom-W) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Bold Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpAtk
-Hydro Pump
-Volt Switch
-Reflect
-Light Screen
The physical tank and offensive supporter in the team. Walls Talonflame and provides support for Scizor against Fire-types. Rotom-W can come into the game via U-turn, set-up screens during the opponent's switch, and then Volt Switch away to deal STAB damage while switching with a sweeper, who is now protected by one or two screens. Leftovers gives Rotom-W longevity and a reliable means of recovery in order for it to be able to take more hits, but an Assault Vest set (Modest Nature) with Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball instead of dual screens is also an option for my team in order to pile on offensive pressure.
KandelaBro (Chandelure) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
Timid Nature
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
-Fire Blast
-Energy Ball
-Shadow Ball
-Psychic
The designated special sweeper and spinblocker for the team. Flash Fire was chosen over Infiltrator in order to absorb Fire-type attacks directed against Scizor or Excadrill, and the EVs were chosen to maximize damage and speed. Fire Blast is the main STAB attack, and with Flash Fire activated its power can exceed 200. A Timid nature was selected in order to outspeed Mega Gengar, and Energy Ball and Psychic are included for coverage against bulky Water-types and Fighting/Poison-types, since the team still lacks a Grass-type move and a Psychic-type Move.
Visenya (Salamence) @ Life Orb
Ability: Moxie
Naive Nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 6 SpAtk / 252 Spe
-Dragon Dance
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Fire Blast
Salamence is my other physical sweeper besides Excadrill, and having Dragon Dance + Moxie makes him a viable sweeper for late game scenarios. Dragon Claw is the main STAB attack since Outrage is not available pre-bank (and also since being locked into Outrage is bad when you have Fairies running around), with Earthquake (another EQ user in the team) for coverage. Fire Blast allows Salamence to decimate Steels as well as deal significant damage to any physical walls that can switch in. A Naive nature with max SpAtk and Speed EVs ensures that he outspeeds most of the other pokemon in the tier.
That is all, hope you can put in some suggestions or feedback. Thanks!
