pre-pokebank OU balanced first team

  • Hello all. For my first team in X and Y, I wanted to make a team which used some less used sets in the metagame. I have used this team and some Pokemon have really shone through as better than I first imagined. It generally does well, having one me all 4 matches I tested it in after the final edit. I also wanted to try and build a team around Mega Medicham, who is so powerful and has collected many a sweep. So I was hoping for some feed back so that I could improve it.

Vivillon @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Hurricane
- Bug Buzz

Vivillon is my lead. It has a simple strategy:Sleep powder, and quiver dance. She has a great ability, and moves to back it up. It is nice when your lead can cripple a few pokes. I love using it as it can spam hurricane with few cares. Works well in putting a dent in your opponents team, helping aid something else in cleaning up the rest of their team

Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Autotomize
- Flash Cannon
- Shadow Ball
- King's Shield

Special Aegislash is powerful. It has 150 base Special Attack in blade form, and despite having a less than stellar movepool on the special side, it can scare away threats to my team, namely mega Gengar, before setting up an Autotomize, while bating out a physical wall that it can destroy at the same time, due to everyone expecting the SD variant, which is more common but also more predictable. Stabs attain decent coverage, but not sure wether to replace King's Shield with HP ground for perfect neutral coverage.

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 Spd / 8 HP
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Flare Blitz
- Brave Bird
- Return

This thing hits hard with CB priority BB. U-Turn is a great move for any choice user, allowing it to scout on the switch. Put return on because I was not sure what else to go with. Gale wings Brave Bird is great for cleaning a weakened team. 8 EVs in HP for 2 switch ins to rocks, as it gives me a odd number (299). Greatly aided by rapid spin support (Further down)

Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Psycho Cut
- Poison Jab
- Thunder Punch

Mega Medicham has almost as much attack as Mega Mawile. 100 base attack boosted by Pure Power is scary. Couple this with a 130 base power STAB and this is what you get. He wrecks teams. HJK hurts a lot. Psycho Cut is a good second STAB. Poison Jab is for fairies, and I like T-Punch to hurt bulky waters. Might Replace Poison Jab with Bullet Punch, still SE on fairies plus priority.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 192 Def / 252 HP / 64 SDef
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Protect

Ferrothorn is a great team member, and has often helped me to finish off oponnents with Leech Seed and Protect. I need rocks on this guy due to nobody else being able to have them and the near constant precence of Talonflame. I prefer Gyro Ball to Power Whip due to accuracy. Works quite well with Tentacruel in terms of resitances (Except EQ) Run special Defence high enough to guarantee living Modest Mega Gengar Focus Blast.

Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Calm Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off
- Scald

Tentacrule provides much Needed RS support for Talonflame, as well as complimeting Ferrothorn in resistances. Toxic Spikes are nice to set up. Rapid Spin is used solely for keeping Talonflame alive as long as possible. Knock Off can be used to cripple anything that relies on its item. Scald is the STAB of choice thanks to the useful burn rate, which can be helpful due to Tentacrule's somewhat pitiful defence

So this is my team. I am looking for feedback in ways that I can improve it, due to being relativly new to the competitive scene and wanting to do well and climb up the PS ladder.
