I made an earlier iteration of this team with M-Gyara as the core but then I wanted to try new stuff on Showdown and am open to suggestions regarding movelist, ev spreads, natures and possible replacements for my team since I still feel the team can perform better. This team is for Pre-Pokebank with in-game items so using 1 leftover because I’m too lazy to do Pickup. The team however though is meant to be competitive so any change that you suggest will be looked into greatly.
Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- High Jump Kick
- Stone Edge
I always wanted to try Mienshao because of the speed and damage. With Regenerator it’s like Life Orb doesn’t matter as much since I can get my health back via U-Turn. It’s usually my lead to get off free damage on w/e starting lead they choose.
Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Waterfall
The main Pokémon of this team, typical move set and EV spreads I would figure. I went with Adamant for more raw damage since Gyarados is slow and bulky, I more than likely will be able to get off a DD and can do damage. Gyarados however gets walled by Ferrothorn, Skarmory and other bulky grass pokemons.
Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
Priority Brave Bird to handle those bulky grass pokes and Flare Blitz for those steels to stop the walling so Gyarados can sweep. Didn’t want to Life Orb because I felt the recoil will wear down the bird super hard. Since I would have problems with rocks I needed a defogger/spinner so in comes Mandibuzz for those problems.
Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
- Taunt
Physical wall with Defog to stop their entry hazards since Stealth Rock will mess up my two sweepers. Foul Play hurts the setup sweepers with Taunt to stop them where they stand and Roost to heal the damage. Has proven to be extremely useful and pulls through when needed.
Clefable @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Flamethrower
- Moonblast
- Moonlight
Life Orb+Magic Guard just gives me more damage which I find really nice. Max HP with CM helps me setup and surprisingly a lot of people bring in their steels into Clefable and just melt because of the Flamethrower. I feel the EV spread can be tweaked into being more special attack heavy but so far Clefable has proven to be extremely strong and a key member of my team to eliminate Dragons and become that annoying threat to the enemy.
Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 28 SAtk / 228 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb
Amoongus is mainly there for Gastrodon/Quagsire/Slowbro/Rotom-W. Giga Drain absolutely destroys these guys and Sludge Bomb for STAB. Spore also helps get someone to sleep and can be I guess considered my unreliable answer to Togekiss besides Mienshao.
The only problems I see with the team from testing it is usually if Gyarados/Clefable becomes too heavily damaged the game is usually over. Besides that Jolteon, Togekiss are obvious threats. My team in general still gets walled by Skarmory so long as they have another physical wall that’s water like Slowbro. Since stall teams are also an issue I can see Gliscor becoming an issue with this team. Gengar should be handled by Mandibuzz but I have not done actual testing to see if it can. Other than that the team has proven to be somewhat good so long as Gyara/Clefable isn’t that badly injured. Mienshao, Amoonguss I feel can be scrapped but I’m not sure with what. Thanks for reading and rating my team.
