Pre-Pokebank RMT

I made an earlier iteration of this team with M-Gyara as the core but then I wanted to try new stuff on Showdown and am open to suggestions regarding movelist, ev spreads, natures and possible replacements for my team since I still feel the team can perform better. This team is for Pre-Pokebank with in-game items so using 1 leftover because I’m too lazy to do Pickup. The team however though is meant to be competitive so any change that you suggest will be looked into greatly.

Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- High Jump Kick
- Stone Edge

I always wanted to try Mienshao because of the speed and damage. With Regenerator it’s like Life Orb doesn’t matter as much since I can get my health back via U-Turn. It’s usually my lead to get off free damage on w/e starting lead they choose.

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Waterfall

The main Pokémon of this team, typical move set and EV spreads I would figure. I went with Adamant for more raw damage since Gyarados is slow and bulky, I more than likely will be able to get off a DD and can do damage. Gyarados however gets walled by Ferrothorn, Skarmory and other bulky grass pokemons.

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost

Priority Brave Bird to handle those bulky grass pokes and Flare Blitz for those steels to stop the walling so Gyarados can sweep. Didn’t want to Life Orb because I felt the recoil will wear down the bird super hard. Since I would have problems with rocks I needed a defogger/spinner so in comes Mandibuzz for those problems.

Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Defog
- Taunt

Physical wall with Defog to stop their entry hazards since Stealth Rock will mess up my two sweepers. Foul Play hurts the setup sweepers with Taunt to stop them where they stand and Roost to heal the damage. Has proven to be extremely useful and pulls through when needed.

Clefable @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Flamethrower
- Moonblast
- Moonlight

Life Orb+Magic Guard just gives me more damage which I find really nice. Max HP with CM helps me setup and surprisingly a lot of people bring in their steels into Clefable and just melt because of the Flamethrower. I feel the EV spread can be tweaked into being more special attack heavy but so far Clefable has proven to be extremely strong and a key member of my team to eliminate Dragons and become that annoying threat to the enemy.

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 28 SAtk / 228 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Sludge Bomb

Amoongus is mainly there for Gastrodon/Quagsire/Slowbro/Rotom-W. Giga Drain absolutely destroys these guys and Sludge Bomb for STAB. Spore also helps get someone to sleep and can be I guess considered my unreliable answer to Togekiss besides Mienshao.

The only problems I see with the team from testing it is usually if Gyarados/Clefable becomes too heavily damaged the game is usually over. Besides that Jolteon, Togekiss are obvious threats. My team in general still gets walled by Skarmory so long as they have another physical wall that’s water like Slowbro. Since stall teams are also an issue I can see Gliscor becoming an issue with this team. Gengar should be handled by Mandibuzz but I have not done actual testing to see if it can. Other than that the team has proven to be somewhat good so long as Gyara/Clefable isn’t that badly injured. Mienshao, Amoonguss I feel can be scrapped but I’m not sure with what. Thanks for reading and rating my team.

Okay, so I am looking at this team and seeing a couple of flaws, the one that sticks out. the most is your huge weakness to volturn, you have zero stealth rocks support and all but one are weak to the common scizor rotom w core. This let's your opponent switch in and switch out with zero repercusions, so first what we need to do is fix the lack of hazard support, I think what would do well in this role is a forretress with this set Instead of mandibuzz the set would be
Foretress, leftovers
Rapid spin
Voltswitch
Stealthrocks/spikes
Gyroball
This make you slightly less weak to volturn strategy, while giving you the support you need. However this only prepares you defensively for volturn strategy,
I think amoongus could be replaced as well with latias carying hp fire the set would look something like this
Latias, leftovers
Calm mind
Hp fire
Roost
Dragon pulse
What this set does for you is one give great synergy with gyaradose, and give you your second counter to volturn strategy, with roost being able to fix the damage done by u turn And hp fire destroys all scizors.
as for small changes I think you should run stone edge instead of ice fang on gyaradoes. The reason for this is that you already have enough to hit dragons with, and using stone edge instead gives you the deadly edge quake combo, giving you better coverage for gyardose.
Well that is all I have to say about this team, good luck

Unfortunately atm I'm playing Pre-Pokebank so if you have any other ideas to replace Amoongus it would be appreciated. Replaced Amoonguss for Trevenant atm

Oh, shot, er maybe zapdose with heat wave will do you better think that is your best choice.
EDIT now thinking about it I think that zapdoes will fit the team very well, even better than latias, the set I am think of is
Zapdose leftovers
248 HP / 236 Def/ 24 Spe
Thunderbolt
Hidden power ice
Heat wave
Roost
This I think it your best bet, you can mess with the evs but I feel like that is the best set for you

Mmm I would feel Zapdos would be a stretch for me to get for this team, at that point I think getting Latias would be easier since this team is also meant for playing other people locally and not just simulator. I've tried both on Showdown however and for now I can see Zapdos provide much better coverage and damage than this Trev set that I'm using.
Trevenant @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 Spd
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Phantom Force
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

As well as I mentioned Heat Wave is Gen5 Move Tutor only so I tried with Roar replacing Heat Wave for now. Still taking other suggestions or alternatives. I also realize than I have nothing to check Gengar.
