Hypnosis is the saving grace here.

Everyone says Bug/Flying is one of the worst typings in the game, and....they're right. But at least Yanmega isn't trying to tank like Vespiqueen. If it finds its way into standard, I see it as a Heracross counter. Sure, if you get Stone Edged, you're dead seven times over, but this bug will survive Megahorn(it's a 2HKO) and laugh off Close Combat, and fire back with Air Slash for the OHKO. And...seriously, who expects this thing?

Easy. Come in on something you'll survive(like a CB EQ or a fighting attack). After Speed Boost kicks in, you'll be outrunning a lot of dangerous pokes, at which point you fire off Hypnosis to sleep whatever's in/coming in(and a lot can kill you, so don't make me guess). Then attack. It'll certainly be unexpected, and max 116 base special attack comes to out 364SPA, nothing to trifle with. Too bad the STAB moves leave something to be desired in the power department. It DOES survive an unboosted Psychic from Azelf and should outspeed it after Speed Boost for the OHKO with Bug Buzz. Any thoughts? Seems BL to me, but could function in an OU enviroment...
 
Nothing resists Bug + Flying with Tinted Lens, for the record. (Since Tinted Lens doubles the damage done by not-very-effective attacks)

If Yanmega drops to UU, I'd like to try a mixed EndRev set. Reversal + Speed Boost is awesome, obviously, but Reversal could also be interesting with Tinted Lens + Salac (assuming you can hit hard enough - Silver Wind hax maybe...?).

protect/hypnosis/air slash/bug buzz or shadow ball basically beats all leads that wont be faster than you after a speed boost or that sub
shadow ball lets it beat stalkdusk
bug buzz beats stalkrhyperior and cress a bit better
 
Protect is nice if you're starting('cause Gengar leads will destroy you unless you sleep them. I checked, it needs a ridiculous amount of EVs to survive T-Bolt and it's slower), but...otherwise, it doesn't really need two boosts to its speed. It hits 270 with those EVs and after that it outruns practically everything that hasn't boosted its speed as well.

Oh...and because I forgot to mention it, this guy would be sick with Baton Pass. C'mon GF, give him some love! Oh...and I guess it should be mentioned this guy could REALLY use some RS support. Badly....because otherwise he dies to Megahorn...and, well...a lot of other things. Goddamnit, I hate Stealth Rock sometimes...
 
It looks like a definite BL. Protect actually has some use on this guy. I'm liking the Protect followed by OHKO Gengar/Weavile leads with Shadow Ball/Bug Buzz, respectively, then sleeping the next poke that comes in.
