Prince of the Sea

I'm walking on sunshine, wooh-ugh...

Introduction
I actually don't know what to say here :v, I just jumped into the XY bandwagon a couple of weeks ago but haven't played that much due to college. Tried a couple of standard teams to get used to the metagame and a grasp at team building, so this is my very first XY OU team.
Looking at the viability ranking thread I wanted to make a team based on something strong, since I don't want my very first team to be a failure, so I came across the cute little Manaphy and started to brainstorm from there, I also wanted to test some other interesing and not very common stuff, so yeah, this is the result.

Team Building Process
I would like to add something here, but honestly, every single member of the team just came in like that. I started (funnily enough) with the intimidate volt-turn core of Lando and Manectric and slapped Manaphy with them , then I was just thinking "I need something that can destroy Manaphy's counters reliably (Ferro, Venu, special walls and Lati@s) and I thought about Gothitelle.
Then I needed not only a good check to Keldeo/Greninja, but also something that could reliably take a hit without needing much prediction and that didn't made me lose momentum, so I thought about Azumarill and checked if it had a defensive spread, and Assault Vest came in. Lastly I needed a good check to M-Gyara, I was about to add Scarf Terrakion, but I went for Thundurus so I could somewhat lure Chansey/Lati@s and criple them, also T-Wave benefits my team greatly since they're all pretty slow.

The Team

leftovers.png

Copper Tiger @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 16 Atk / 248 HP / 240 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature
- Rock Slide
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn

My lead and part of the Volt-Turn core of the team, Y'all know how he works, it can reliably spread rocks at any point in the match and acts as a decent check to physical threats, his combination with Manectric is pretty damn good and allows me to put a lot of offensive pressure on the enemy team from the very start, as well as doing cheap damage that accumulates as the match goes. Rock slide instead of Stone Edge since I don't really want to miss against those pesky Flying-spammers, especially Pinsir.
He started as a scarfed but the idea was quickly dropped as I added Thundurus as the last member, and I needed Stealth Rocks.

Thundaga @ Manectite
Ability: Lightningrod
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Volt Switch

The other half of the scout core, I gotta say, I never used M-Manectric before and I'm impressed at how good it is. Thundaga is blazing fast, surprisingly bulky after an Intimidate and his scouting abilities are amazing. Both help Gothitelle to get in for free as he is pretty frail and appreciate all the prior damage it can get, especially against M-Venusaur.

leftovers.png

Thundara @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Wave

Thundara is my F-you sweepers button, he also acts as a lure for Lati@s and Chansey, as Knock Off does a decent amount of damage to the former and severely cripples the latter, allowing Manaphy to sweep late game easier, it also works amazingly with Gothitelle, as once that Eviolite is removed Gothi is free to trap and 2HKO the blob with Psyshock, sometimes 3HKO if she goes for Softboiled on the switch. And of course, is my last resource for stopping M-Gyara, which the team normally handles decently as long as I play smart and don't lose any momentum.

choicespecs.png

Dr. Frank-N-Furter @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 Spd / 4 Def / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Trick

Gothitelle is my sort of wall breaker, it demolishes stall as well as most Manaphy counters, I already explained his synergy with Manectric and Lando so there isn't much to add. Trick is nice on the last slot for screwing special walls, mostly fairy-types.

azumarill.gif
assaultvest.png

Luthien @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 SDef / 16 HP / 252 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Waterfall

She's my tank, Morgoth ain't got shit on this beauty! Luthien was added for the sole purpose of stopping Greninja and Keldeo reliably, as she can easily sponge anything those two can throw at her (bar HP Grass on Greninja, which still doesn't do THAT much) and outright OHKO them. She's so bulky she can even take a Thunderbolt from Thundurus at full health and 2hko with Play Rough and Aqua Jet, but you don't really want to do that. Assault vest is also cool for bluffing a Choice Band and avoids the lose of momentum for the most part.

manaphy.gif
leftovers.png

Mr.Sluggu @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 216 Spd / 252 SAtk / 40 HP
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Energy Ball

Of course, the last member is also the star of the team, thanks to Goti Manaphy can afford to run Energy ball without caring about Venusaur since it's way more useful than Psychic as it hits everything that could potentially wall my other members, like Quagsire, Rotom-W, Quagsire, Gastrodon and Quagsire...oh and also Quagsire. He...she...it? doesn't hit hard enough without a boost so I normally avoid getting him in until everything else is weakened, unless there's a Quagsire on the other side, stupid .______. face.

Conclusion

So that's it, there's my team, at the moment, I'm sitting at 1600-ish since I literally just made this team this morning and started laddering with it. A threat list will come soon as I play some more and (can get all this rust from my brain) find out what destroys me, at the moment I can only think of Charizard-Y being a problem, simply because nothing can switch into it reliably, but I compensate that with the amount of offensive pressure that I apply, so it's not really a big deal, besides it can't possibly sweep my entire team unless Thundaga and Thundara were dead. Also Clefable is kind of a bitch.
And excuse my shitty english \._.\

U can't tank without HP

Luthien @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 16 SDef / 252 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Waterfal

So much evs in SDef and AS are redunant without HP.

Is hard playing a volturn without a defogger/spinner. The most used set of thundy is the defiant set. At low level u can lure someone, but not at high level. Thundy do what megatric do... Worst.
But t-wave can help a lot your team. So i cannot remove him.

Hey! I think you have an interesting idea for a team. Gothitelle is one of my favorite Pokemon, and I also think that Volt-turn is one of the bast tactics to utilise her, since even with considerable special bulk, she doesn't like to switch in stuff. I also think that your movesets and EVs are quite optimal, there are just a few nitpicks I have.

Even though you dislike the accuracy of Stone Edge, Lando-T just can't afford to run Rock Slide. The 16 Attack EVs you have there are to specifically 2HKO Dragonite with Multiscale, making Lando-T an effective check to him. Also, investment in SpD helps you take special hits better than investment in HP does, so I advise you to keep the heavy investment in SpD. One should notice however that AV Azumarill doesn't last very long without recovery, and one should play him cautiously. Also, what do you achieve with all that Speed on Manaphy? I sggest running 176 EVs to outspeed Deo-D's Taunt, rest in HP.

It's hard to name certain threats right off the bat, as your team is very reliant on smart plays, and the goal is to always have a favorable matchup at every turn. You mentione Char-Y as a threat, but honestly, if Char-Y can come on the field, that usually means you've managed to kill something, which still means the match is in your favor. What it comes to Clefable, Gothitelle can trick a choice item to it, meaning it can't gather CM boosts. I do still think that has some holes that could be plugged. The main problems with an Intimidate Volt-Turn team are Bisharp and Thundurus, as you need to tread carefully to not let them acquire Defiant boosts, although I think your team can work around these threats just fine. Also, Kyu-B can cause your team trouble with a moveset of Fusion Bolt / Ice Beam / Earth Power. One thing you should also notice is that Swift Swim teams easily outspeed your fast Electric-types, and can start wreak havoc. Azu and Manaphy can take Water-moves, but not any coverage moves really. Overall, good job with the team and good luck in your battles!

Hi, sorry for replying late I've been busy =(

It's important for teams that utilize some form of volt-turn to have some sort of hazards control especially if you are running things like AV Azumarill which tend to lure in the common spikers like Ferrothorn and Skarmory. While you have Gothitelle which does wonders in trapping those two in particular, you also have to take into account deosharp teams in which Deo-d can just spikestack on your Landorus / Azumarill, and at that point it doesn't matter if you can kill the deo anymore. The team is also a little bit too reliant on Gothitelle to deal with Unaware Clefable which walls the majority of your team otherwise save for maybe Azumarill and some Waterfall flinches.

Run Excadrill over Thundurus and go back to scarfing the Landorus-T. Excadrill can both set up SR and Spin for you, while giving you a way to deal with fairy types thanks to Iron Head. I would probably advocate the Air Balloon set so you can switch in easily on things like Subtoxic Gliscor with Protect--if Gliscor comes in on your Landorus you really have no easy way of dealing with Subtoxic Gliscor since it will get a free poison on anything you switch in. Either way, having a steel-type is really beneficial for this team as fairy-type pokemon can be rather annoying for this team to handle--even things like Sylveon will be rather annoying to face. With Excadrill being able to handle fairies while laying down sr / spinning, you can scarf the Lando-T--by scarfing it, your Volt-turn core is much more potent because you have speed to deal with offensive teams, especially those that run Greninja. Scarf Landorus comes in handy for dealing with sweepers now that Thundurus is out of your team, because you still need a way to shut down pesky sweepers.

Scarf Landorus-T > Support Landorus T
SR Air Balloon Exca > Thundurus

Thanks a lot for the rate ^O^
I was thinking about replacing Thundurus as he wasn't really doing much for the team, so your change works wonders for me.
