Hello, and Thanks for looking at my Volt-Turn Team, So the idea behind this team is to build a team where Zygarde can come in and sweep in the lategame. With this thought in mind I began to build a team around the him and after flailing around on the ladder for a bit I was finally able to make Zygarde work with this Volt-turn team, now the interesting thing is that I found very little synergy most Mega's and Zygarde, so I decided that I would scrap using a mega and just go for a very classic Volt-turn team with a heavy emphasis on priority(which I know is sooo uncommon in Gen6) So enough exposition, lets just get into the team
Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Stone Edge
Mienshao is my most common lead for this team, it is a personal favorite of mine and works great with the other pokemon on the team. Its main role in battle is to get passive damage out with Fake out and hopefully take out the opponents lead before they can set down spikes/Stealth rock. If everything goes to plan it then U-turns out and keeps momentum in my favor. It does this job very effectively, though after it has switched out it is usually just fodder since Mienshao is about as durable as wet tissue. Mienshao does its job as an Anti-lead well, and that's really all it has to do.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 200 SDef / 252 HP / 56 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Pain Split
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
Rotom-W, the omnipresent washing machine, is unsurprisingly the glue that holds this team together and is essential to keeping momentum in my favor. Rotom-W just checks so many common threats in this metagame that I cant see myself making a team without it anytime soon. It is especially valuable on this team since I have a desperate need for Fire-resists and Rotom-W provides it. With this EV spread it is usually able to take a hit and either kill off the threat with a Hydro Pump, or shut it down with a Will-o-Wisp.
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit
Forming up the classic Volt-Turn core is of course, Bulky Band Scizor. With the new fairy type and the buffs to Dark type moves in Gen 6, this set is incredibly effective in this metagame. Overall Scizor is not a complicated pokemon, He hits things damn hard with Bullet punch and is an effective pursuit trapper, which is even more important this gen with how strong Ghost types are. Overall Scizor is here to take some hits and to hopefully dish them right back.
Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Coil
- Earthquake
- Extreme Speed
- Stone Edge
The Set this team was built around, Coil Zygarde. I wanted to use this set because I am really a fan of bulky sweepers, also I thought that with Extremespeed Zygarde would be perfect to run a bulky set up set. If everything works out as planned with this team Zygarde is able to come in during the late game and gets off some Coil boosts and sweep with Earthquake and Extremespeed from there. This works well because with a few coil boosts Zygarde is strong enough to take out most of the faster pokemon with Extremespeed while being able to take out Steel types with Earthquake. Now the main counter to this working is obviously Skarmory but hopefully by the time Zygarde comes in she has been dealt with.
Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
While Dragons did get a nerf in the transition over to Gen 6, they are still a huge part of the metagame and to deal with the multitude of Dragons and ground types in the metagame I turn to Mamoswine. Mamoswine is just so potent with Ice Shard that he forces alot of switches on his own. Also He is an excellent Rock setter with good speed and good bulk. Also Mamoswine is a fantastic counter to Aegislash with Earthquake. Overall just a solid pokemon for this team.
Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Download
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Mild Nature
- U-turn
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
The newest addition to the team is Choice scarf Genesect. Genesect was added onto this team after trying to make various mega's work in this last slot and failing, I decided to just throw out the idea of Mega's and to just throw the titan of Gen 5 on the team. Genesect works great as a revenge killer and is able to scout out the enemy team very well. As the last part of the Volt-turn Quartet he puts out great offensive pressure and forces many switches. This guy was banned in Gen 5 for a reason and he really rounds out the team.
So there you have it, my Volt-turn team based on priorty and the late game sweeping power of Zygarde. It has gone through many iterations and this has so far been the most successful one on the ladders. Thanks for reading and any suggestions and comments are of course greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!
